Louisville Commit Quentin Snider Named Top Ten Point Guard In 2014 Class
Today Scout.com released their 2014 class position rankings for the first time and local product and Louisville commitment Quentin Snider was rated as the ninth best PG prospect of 2014.
At this time, Scout.com has only ranked the top 10 players in the 2014 class for PG, SG, SF and PF and the top 5 players for C. Of the 45 players who were ranked in their position, Quentin Snider is one of only three players who have committed to a school. Indiana and Virginia also have one top ranked 2014 commitment.
Louisville is also listed as a "School of Interest" for several other top prospects including #3 PG D'Angelo Russell, #2 SG Jaquan Lyle, #5 SF Jalen Lindsay, #7 SF Shaqquan Aaron and #2 C Dakari Johnson. Of these prospects, Louisville has only offered Russell, who played at Central High School and for the Louisville Magic AAU team before moving to Florida before his sophomore year.

To add to the creep factor.
It stands a good chance that several of these players don’t even have their learner’s permit for a driver’s license yet. Think about that for a while.

I know this is far from a done deal, but
I find it pretty ridiculous that people were bashing Pitino for his recruiting, and was even a post about how Pitino’s recruiting was lacking.
Well, even if all 6 of these potential guys wanted to come to Louisville
We wouldn’t have the spots, so yes, most of them won’t arrive. But if your point is we have COMMITED players that have signed with other schools at the last minute, I’d disagree. To my knowledge, Rodney Purvis is the only player we’ve lost like that (to another school, not counting the NBA from early years) in a while, and he re-opened his recruitment after coaching changes, including his lead recruiter. The more fair statement is that Coach Pitino hasn’t always landed his 1st choice at positions several times in the past few years, but has certainly been involved with the top recruits in the country and has signed many of them to Louisville in the past several years. For reference,
2008: Samuels (#1 PF), Swopshire (#18 SF), Kuric (#28 SG), Jennings (4-star, unranked b/c was originally in 2006 class)
2009: Siva (#7 PG), Buckles (#18 PF), Van Treese (#37 PF), Marra (#43 SG)
2010: Dieng (#11 C), Coleman (#7 SF), Russ Smith (NR), Justice (NR, walk-on)
2011: Blackshear (#4 SG), Behanan (#6 PF), Price (#8 C), Ware (#24 SG), Nunez (#27 SF)
2012: Rozier (#20 PG)
Of all the players listed, only Coleman didn’t make it in 2010. Pitino has only given a scholarship to one unranked player in the last 5 years and I’m glad he gave Russ the nod. Of scholarship players (and I’m ranking Russ as the #50 SG to have a number), Pitino’s average position ranking of all recruits is 19.3. That means that he signs one of the best 20 kids in the country for their position on average every year. Keep in mind that this includes all recruits, including who Pitino knew would only be role players. (If you take out SVT, Marra and Russ, the average ranking is 13.8 for all positions.) I think its a pretty good average to average out at getting the top 15/20 player at a position for all recruits on scholarship. If you disagree, what average number should we be getting for EVERY player recruited?
Remember that by and large, these prospects put Louisville on their list because the staff have expressed an interest by watching them play and they reciprocate that interest by listing us. I’d also wager that quite a few guys list Louisville early on to hope to spark some interest back in the other direction. The key here in 2014 is that we’ve only offered 2 guys and one committed on that offer. That a good indication to me. Will his commitment waiver, probably; most kids do at all schools, especially if they move up in the rankings and get more attention. Will Snider’s? I doubt it. He’s a local kid that wants to play for the local university. And he’s good…really good. Like #9 PG in the country good right now.

Yeah, well what's with all the double-digit recruits?
ONly one #1 prospect at his position? Only four top-ten prospects in 5 recruiting classes? We ought to be getting 1s, 2s and 3s every year. With at LEAST five stars apiece.~

You could add Tony Woods to the list that never arrived. But, his choice of Oregon instead of UofL had to do with the NCAA
At Oregon he could play right away, where at UofL he would sit until December. (They are on a quarterly system, not a semester system). Also, he may not have been much help, the way his coach described his game mid-December he is still behind where Price is, and that is in a playbook not written by CRP.
But, I don’t add his name to take away from your points, CRP suffers from the appearance of how things are going just down the road; we are getting plenty of good players.

Yeah, I didn't think about Tony Woods...
but at the same time, he also never committed to UofL. I really intended to focus on freshman coming in. Notice I also didn’t list Luke Hancock, who was an unranked player in 2008 when he was at Hargrave Military Academy. He was only offered by George Mason and Toledo.

Loooong way to go, for everything. Including:
- His ability/ranking
- Eligibility
- Wavering commitment
- Health
- Staff stability
I am quite the jaded recruiting follower
unrelated but
Senegal is going to the finals of the African Nations Cup (soccer). I’m sure Gorgui is excited

Have we ever lost a commitment from the city of Louisville?
I highly doubt this kid wavers, even if it is a long time until he gets here. I don’t know how recruiting rules work, but can’t one of our coaches at least attend nearly all his home games?

Several
Tom Payne, Winston Bennett, Derek Anderson via Ohio State, come to mind immediately. And then there are a batch of football players. I don’t include Rondo because Pitino was in love with Sebbie T. instead.
I meant lost a player from Louisville who had already committed

Does Teague count?
He was a UofL ball boy for chrissakes.

THat's why I asked if he counted.
He never formally committed, but he was pretty much assumes to be in the family.

Didnt we lose Allan Houston back in 93?
by LouisvilleWarLord on Jan 26, 2012 11:43 PM EST up reply actions
Yes, after he committed, if I am not mistaken.
And,, especially, after his father Wade was hired to Coach Tennessee. A rather special circumstance that Denny understood, and if memory serves CDC gave him his release.

Ballard vs St. X
7:30 tonight @ Ballard. Come out with your Cardinal gear and support a future Card. Get behind the kids who commit to The Ville(not in a creepy way even though RIC)

Could Snyder be the 2nd best UL player ever from Ballard High School?
Behind Brandon Bender of course….
by johnnyjoejohnson on Jan 27, 2012 7:52 AM EST reply actions
Jerry Eaves.
All kidding aside, and I have to believe you were kidding with BB, Eaves was much better than Bender.
by Unseld2Beard on Jan 27, 2012 8:01 AM EST up reply actions
Lamp and Raker were pretty good too but Wheat was the Breakfast of Champions
The Ralph Sampson Wahoos actually started three kids from KY because Jeff Jones from Owensboro Apollo was also a starter. I think he even ended up coaching UVa at some point.
Dejaun Wheat and Jerry Eaves were ok
But, Brandon Bender was a beast. Had he not slapped that stripper and gotten kicked off the team for it, we’d probably be talking about retiring his jersey right about now.

Devante might be the best basketball player to ever lace them up at Ballard,
and then go on to play ball @ UL.
Whooooooooooa whoa whoa now on the Brandon Bender crowning....
Apparently some of you have forgotten about the great Allan Houston. Who, considering his longevity in NBA, is above & beyond the best Ballard Bruin to EVER wear the crimson & baby blue uniform., not to mention he won a State Championship in 88. Unfortunately Dejuan Wheat, whom I love just as much b/c he was a fellow Ballard Alum & UL Cardinal, didn’t have the career longevity A. Houston did & also didnt win a state championship.
If you rank the top 5 players to ever come out of Ballard, Brandon Bender would be 100th (therefore not in the top 5). In his defense, I believe Mac Wilkerson would be rated higher than BB easily. He put in work in high school & on the college level.
Someone is taking crazy pills here!
