Would Red-Shirting Blackshear Be Worth It?

The questions about whether Wayne Blackshear will play this year is a very important topic. If I may, I’d like to give a scenario that might help. On the show with Pitino the other night, Wayne himself said he’d not played in a year. That’s a long time for any athlete to be side-lined. My personal perspective is this: although I don’t think he’ll make a huge difference for us as far as our chemistry, offensive power, or any other part (not saying he won’t contribute, just don’t think it’ll be massive…hope I’m wrong though), why not go on and play him for the simple reason of getting the experience in a Card uniform. If he waits until next year to play, it’ll be nearly 2 years since he suited up and actually played. If the medical staff doesn’t feel he’s ready or that he would possibly do much more long- term harm, a Red-Shirt would be best. BUT… Why not get that first college game over with this year? Why not take the opportunity to ease into it coming off the bench in short spurts? What I’m saying is, let him get some of his Freshmen kinks worked out this year so that next year he will be a little further along? From what I’ve seen, read, and heard, he has a tremendous upside & is NBA material even now. Let’s make the most of it now if possible. We've go two in a row now! Go Cards!
