On Peyton Siva

The next piece in the Friday night no girlfriend series is about Peyton Siva. Mainly, it's about his production during Big East play. We can take that Kentucky game, crumple it up and throw it in the dumpster fire that's Pittsburgh's season. The reason for this piece is because I'm curious about 5 things.

  1. When Siva gets his points
  2. When he gets his assists
  3. When he turns it over
  4. When he gets his fouls
  5. If Miss Hawaii has a friend. Writing this a 7pm Friday. Help a brotha, out.

It would be confusing just to throw out numbers, so here are Siva's in Big East action via Stat Sheet.

The numbers immediately made me want to compare his first 5 minutes of a half and his second.

First Five Minutes: 6-11, 12 pts 9 assists 6 steals 3 rebounds 5 fouls 3 turnovers

Final Five Minutes: 4-9, 4-4 FTs, 12 points. 0-2 on 3s 7 assists 3 steals 5 rebounds 9 turnovers 1 block 5 fouls

All 4 of those free throws came in the Georgetown game. The main thing that jumped out to me, besides the fact he's given up on shooting 3s, is that Siva hasn't made a free throw in 4 games. In bold and caps, FOUR GAMES. That's very many. He hasn't gone to the line in 3 games. Unacceptable. The assist/turnover rate also jumps out to me. 3:1 early to whatever the hell 7:9 comes out to. That's really bad. It's a giant concern that Siva has not been effective at all late in halves. As we saw with Notre Dame, he couldn't get shots off when the Cards needed them.

I have to admit, this post has depressed me a little bit. Siva is the point guard. He's supposed to be the leader of the team. He's leading the team alright, I hear snarky people say, right into the toilet. Siva's awful play is part of the reason Louisville is a 2 point underdog at Pittsburgh tomorrow night. Here's hoping that Siva Bear can pull himself out of his funk. Once he does, the Cards will. I hope.

I posted the day before our first loss that we'd lose the next 2 games if the old Siva didn't come back

but I had no idea whatever happened to him wouldn’t be resolved by late January. Very sad. Here’s hoping coach gives Bullet a reasonable chance to save us.

Love Siva, especially the old Siva, but I too am looking forward to seeing what Bullet can do.

It’s a perfect opportunity for him, for as the above stats point out, he really can’t do much worse.

Guys.

Dude just put in some time and effort in to this post. I figure a dude that can put numbers together like this does fairly well for himself, which will/has gotten him some Fancy Gap.

30% of CC readers (the ladies, the ladies) may want to stop reading this comment here.

Let’s look at it this way… If Pitt were a girl, she’d be a little ugly, kind of down on herself, and in the same building while the Cards are on the road. Let’s hope Peyton treats them like that girl… a slump buster.

What about the games before his injury?

Maybe my subconscious is fighting to remove all conscious thought of the season, but I still have a few memories of the good Siva before he got injured. Can you get stats for the games leading up to the injury; are they really any better? And, what really snapped us into this downward spiral? It has to be more than injuries cause all I see is bad decision making, but I digress.

Didn’t Pitino make some rumbling, fumbling comment before the season that Peyton could be going pro after this year?

The turnover percentage is alarming

But pretty much every bit of this is alarming. The efficiency stats are even worse than my perception of how things have gone. It’s hard to believe.

Watching the game

Every time Siva gets in we give up points and turn the ball over and when he sits we get ahead.

Go! Cards!

Did you watch last night's second half?
