Like it or not
A lot more of these kids see college as simply a place to showcase their talents for a year or two before the jump to big money (they hope). I actually don’t have a problem with that. It’s not up to us, and frankly there are a lot of people in college who have no business there from an academic standpoint. I hate that this is the case, it more and more it appears that to be an elite b-ball program now you need either that rare situation like Duke has or the ability to recruit kids that you know going in are out the door long before they get a degree. So be it. Swim in those waters or deal with being just another program.
No doubt about it.
These really elite level kids have been told since they were in middle school that they were a special talent and that one day they would be playing in the league and have mansions, bling, women, cars, etc. And for the really top guys (who don’t get hurt) they may very well make that dream happen. That is indeed their mindset. Whether it’s reality or not is another question. But reality doesn’t really enter into this. If this is their mindset, then that’s the way it is and that is the waters that today’s coaches have to swim in.

First off, I'm not a hater...
…but this is not a loss. Watch his videos if you’ve never seen him. His major advantage is that he’s far taller than everyone else at his level. He’s one dimensional, almost Samardo-esque (but at least he can dunk). He doesn’t have a jumper and is purely a paint player. Even his recruiting videos highlight post-up dunks and blocks – that’s it.
Seriously, this is not the style of player that we need. I don’t care why pUKe wants him, and I don’t care.
Well regardless what any of us think
Pitino thought enough of him to show up for his games and actively recruit him. So there must have been a reason. I doubt it was because he sucks…
regardless we lost….

I just watched a video of him
And it showed him hitting outside shots left and right. Mostly 3’s. He can handle the ball pretty good and made some good passes. He did not look like an elite athlete. He also does not look like a program changer. But he is a solid 4 year player. Sort of reminded me of Kyle Wiltjer.
Please send me the link to that video...I've never seen that one.
Every time I’ve seen him, he’s a plodder.
I agree that he’s a four year player, which isn’t exactly pUKe’s system, but whatever.

I saw this young guy play
In Louisville at the Kings of the Bluegrass. He can shoot like a mother from outside. Some old guy was in the stands, Willis’ school was obviously ‘his team’, old guy said he’s seen this kid in practices, games etc, and that he can essentially shoot accurately from almost half court. He could definitely shoot, seemed like a 6’9" guard.
One thing that was interesting, whoever they played had some athletic young kid that POSTERED on Willis a time or two. It seems that Willis is a good outside guy who isnt real interested in being in the paint defensively, at least not yet. He had good paint offensive moves, could block, but didn’t want to bang or take charges. He’ll probably get over that, but seemed more like a 2 or 3 than a 4 or 5. I don’t see him being one and done though, like most of UK’s puppy mill bullshit.
