Return to Freedom Hall?

With the University of Louisville Men's Basketball team looking more and more like we're headed for the NIT (Not In Tournament), a big question that we might want to ask now and find out the answer is: "Will we play our NIT games in Freedom Hall since the KFC Yum! Center will be hosting the 2nd and 3rd rounds of the NCAA Tournament?" Hmm... It's something to think about. I don't know if the NCAA would want one of their host sites having minor league NIT games the night before. So with that said, will the Cards return to Freedom Hall if the fail to make the real thing and play in the secondary, sad, tournament for teams that couldn't cut it this year? I can see ESPN making a splash about it. But worse than that, I can see the Kool-Aid drinking Big Blue AbomiNation laughing themselves to death over our demotion back to the Hall. I would have NEVER dreamed this just 3 weeks ago but I must say that it is looking more and more like a third NIT (Not In Tournament) season under Rick Pitino. In 10 years we have only 12 NCAA Tournament wins (1 in 2003, 4 in 2005, 1 in 2007, 3 in 2008 and 2009). Guys, I'm sick of this. I'm so worn out with "what- if's" or "if only's", and even the "injuries are killing us!" I'm just sick. Everything rises and falls on leadership. The captain is responsible for the crew. Accountability is missing in our world today by many people and the current slide in the 'Ville is because of a lack of accountability and leadership from the top. I'm sick of thinking "next year". I'm tired of dreaming for another banner to be hung for a championship or at least a Final Four. If we have to go back and play in Freedom Hall in this year's NIT it will perfectly illustrate the direction of the U of L program...Going BAckwards!

A little premature

we should not even be thinking about the NIT just yet. i think we are in the tourney if we finish 7-5 in our last twelve games.

Hope & pray you're right...

but I’m gonna go out on a limb & predict exactly what I just wrote about. This team is not NCAA bound as it stands right now. We’re not a top 25 team- WE’RE NOT EVEN THE SECOND BEST TEAM IN THE STATE!!! I love the ‘Ville, but I’m a realist. We are once again NIT (Not in Tournament) for the third time in 11 years. Sorry….

NO NIT!

If we don’t make the tournament, which I still think we will , we should decline the NIT. Nobody wants to play in that, especially at Freedom hall!

The above post should be obliterated like a Calipari Final Four appearance.

We ain’t going to no NIT. Even if it were to happen (which it won’t), it’s insanely too early to be speculating about it now.

Syracuse lost 6 out of 8 last season at this time, a losing spell that lasted until February 14th. The Orange lost four in a row last January. Yet, they received a higher seed than Louisville in the NCAA Tournament (a three seed)! Moral of that story? Calm down, yo!

Post about us playing in Freedom Hall come March if we don’t have 10 league wins. Or if we bow out in the first game of the Big East Tournament. I don’t see either one of those happening.

Thank you

All this negativity was ruining my day. I know as fans we have the time and the right to speculate on the endless possibilities of a season, but we need to take a step back and look at the bigger picture. There are still 12 games left and the Big East tourney. We might go 12-0, maybe 0-12, maybe 6-6. Who knows? That’s why they play the games, and I for one am certainly not writing off this season already. I’m sure our boys aren’t ready to pack it in either. If it ends in disaster, so be it. If UK fans take pleasure in our misery, then good for them. The team still has fight left in them, and as supporters of the team, so should we. Time to nut up or shut up Cardinal fans.

Now I’m done.

Bengals fan since day one.

Cardinals fan since I realized I had a choice.

I think someone just wanted to type a little post.. If you get back to reality for a min and look at Tue likelyhood of 1. The cards not making the tourney and then 2 them playing at Freedom Hall in the NIT.. its not likely. We have currently have 14 wins. We will probably need to get to the magic 20 to get to the tourney and could possibly do it with 19 we have 12 games left. Out of the 12 left they are all winable except possibly the 2 to fuse. But if history has anything to do with it the liklyhood of us at least splitting the series is high. Out of the 12 games left half ate at home. Sat we play Pitt at home. A Pitt team that has been miserable this season. We should win this game. After the Pitt W we come home and face a lackluster currently 9-10 Villinova team. Nova sucks this year point blank. If we get these next two W’s which is hotly likely then that leaves us with 10 games left to get 4 more wins needed. I don’t want to go on and on but if you can’t look at the remainder of the schedule and see the odds of us getting this 4 after Tue next two then your crazy. And if we snag one of the two from cuse then we could prob split these next two games and still make the tourney. IMO we win the next two, which we should and the road is paved for us to not just sneak in but be a no Brainerd come select tion Sunday. You are counting us out WAY to early. I’m not an odds maker, but I can logically see, oh and I have faith in our squad that we will be IN the big Dance!

sorry about the spelling erro

I apologize for the grammatical errors, but I typed the last post from my cell phone. I think you can surmise the point though that the odds are that we will still make the NC 2 A tournament.

I absolutely WANT US to make the NCAA Tournament!

I’m just going by what I see and quite honestly don’t look at the remaining 12 games with ANY of them as sure things. Our offensive meltdown Saturday was humiliating. We’re injured physically, but most important mentally. Maybe it’s just because I’m so- so sick of Louisville under- acheiving year after year. I’m sorry but Siva is looking more & more like Sosa did his last 2 years. Ouch!

I'm not sure what you're going for here.

If I were a UK fan and wanted to piss off UL fans, I would have written your post. In fact, in my less mature days, I’m pretty sure I posted something in a UL/UK fan forum about how UK shouldn’t let the NCAA tournament have games in Rupp to avoid having the play NIT games in Mem. Hall. So, yeah. There’s that.

JJJ...

I’ve been a ‘Ville fan since the earliest days of the 80’s. I had to go to school to face idiotic pUKe kids who dogged me about my allegiance to the ‘Ville because I wasn’t born there, didn’t live there, & still don’t live there. I’m in the midst of corn fields & tobacco barns in rural KY. BUT I AM AND ALWAYS WILL BE A LOUISVILLE FAN! But I am also a realist. I have seen some of our best & worst of times at the ‘Ville. This is some of the worst and believe me I didn’t write this post because I’m happy about it. I just see this unfolding very unfavorably for us is all. I PRAY that I’m dead wrong & that I look like a fool in a few weeks. But just because I post real stuff asking a genuine question doesn’t mean that I’ve jumped ship, am on the ledge, and that I have not shared my joys & thoughts with victories. I still say, “Go Cards!” We can turn it around- but the time is now!

I'm not questioning your fanhood.

Just your intelligence. If you have half a brain, you wouldn’t be surprised that UL fans would call you an asshole for this….

Remote's post about the defense earlier this week was fantastic.

But yeah, all the negative shit on here when the team is struggling is ridiculous. If you don’t feel the need to share your opinion when the team is winning and doing well, then why must it be shared when the team isn’t doing well? I love how active the CC community is, but damn, I read maybe 1 out of every 5 fan posts, if that.

It’s not the end of the world, guys. Louisville loses crush me as much as any of you, but worrying about where we’ll play in the NIT is a bit over the top, especially with over a month left in the season.

Come in, off the ledge

Folks, i really don’t think things are quite as bleak as they appear. I was in meltdown mode along with most you Tuesday night, but i have settled down a little since then. Yes, injuries have killed us of late and UofL has certainly got off on the wrong foot. But i really do believe in this team and i think they have a real opportunity to right the ship and end up in the top half of the conference. I truly believe if they get their swagger back, they can end up somewhere around 11-7 in the conference (which would be about #6 in the conf—much worse than we were expecting a few weeks ago—but still good enough to make the tourney). Don’t forget although we do play Syracuse twice this season, we also have 2 Depaul days, and 2 games with Pitt (Pitt has seemed to totally implode this year—which hopefully means UofL wins tomorrow).
So relax a little, drink some more Kool-Aid (put some vodka in it if you have to). I think we have a better chance of Willis commiting to UofL today than most people think and the Cards are going to have a decent chance at winning all of the next 4 games. After that, everything will be up for grabs again.

THE ANSWER!

Dear god, it’s the Yum Center – it was built on an Indian graveyard and is CURSED! Flee the YUM!! (Note that’s an exclamation point following the name “YUM!”, not two exclamation points, which would be a little too much, right?)

RETURN TO FREEDOM HALL AND INJURY-FREE BASKETBALL!

by Leeroy Jenkins on Jan 20, 2012 1:24 PM EST reply actions

It's January!!

Last time I checked, we still have the rest of January, February, a game in March AND the Big East Tournament. That’s a lot of basketball to be played.

And correct me if I’m wrong, but aren’t NIT games typically played on the off nights of the NCAA tournament so as not to interfere? At least the first few rounds of the NIT?

by tarabelle17 on Jan 20, 2012 5:23 PM EST reply actions

i would love to play maybe 1 game a year back in the hall. i love the yum but i do miss the hall.

the hall is still a part of me, i feel a little nostalgic every time i think about it.
