That's weird

By the way, I'm breaking in a new TV today

and I think it might be magic.

Inherited it from my in-laws. Watched two previous games on this TV at their house:
-UL vs. ND in the 2011 BET
-UL vs. USF in 2012 football (clinched share of BE championship, kept BCS hopes alive)

I ain’t bringin’ any kind of “point blank period.” But those are two big wins right there.

The second Marquette goes to the press...

..we fold. They adjust, we never counter-adjust. That’s on Rick.

Players are regressing, not improving. Siva looks WORSE, Behanan can’t hit layups OR free throws, Russ’s shot selection is getting dumber, Gorgui still can’t avoid foul trouble and apparently Justice is redshirting and nobody told him.

Stay positive

The best of this team is yet to come. Yeah all these losses are tough to swallow but if we’re not gonna support and cheer for our own players, then who is?

by CardiacCards on Jan 16, 2012 5:33 PM EST reply actions

No, Rick himself PROMISED us this would be THE year

For the last two seasons he’s been pointing to THIS YEAR as the year we finally break through. Setting aside his promise after 2005 that Louisville would never drop out of the elite again — a promise followed by a NIT appearance and three first weekend exits — we have been completely cheated. This is worse than the Michael Bush injury. This is on Rick.

by TriviaGeek on Jan 16, 2012 5:40 PM EST up reply actions

Saying to stay positive might have helped after the Georgetown loss

Or the UK loss, or even the ND loss, but after the Providence loss that doesn’t help at all. Beating Depaul doesn’t mean anything if you can’t build off it, it just means you are better than Depaul.

But you can stay positive, grin and bear it while this team continues to kick you in the teeth

by Tryce on Jan 16, 2012 5:41 PM EST up reply actions

That's exactly what I'll do

As I said before, if we don’t support our own team then who will?

Trust me I’m just as frustrated as everyone else but negativity gets us nowhere.
And as for “this being the year” there have been quite a few setbacks (namely injuries) that are 99% beyond control.
This team with a healthy second big man (SVT), someone to give KK solid backup minutes (Marra/Blackshear) and the best recruit we’ve had in a long time (Blackshear) is the team Pitino promised us. It’s been taken away from us and we’re now struggling to make it through.
Hopefully (optimism is good in my opinion), the injury woes are over and we rebuild and strengthen our team over the rest of the season. I just hope we can get our shit together by March.

by CardiacCards on Jan 16, 2012 6:01 PM EST up reply actions

Once is bad luck, twice is coincidence, three years is a trend

We have been CONSISTENTLY injured under Rick’s watch. Even in 2005, Taquan was playing with a hernia and the only reason we had Ellis Myles is because he’d sat out a season with a blown knee.

It isn’t bad luck. This is on Rick.

by TriviaGeek on Jan 16, 2012 6:39 PM EST up reply actions

NIT sucks by itself. But when you waited two years for this season it really sucks

by midwestkids on Jan 16, 2012 5:35 PM EST up reply actions

remember

when we were up 18-2

by midwestkids on Jan 16, 2012 5:36 PM EST reply actions   1 recs

Really is nothing they can do.

Tried playing Angel, couldn’t hit open shots
Played Price, make constant fouls on the opposition
Started Russ, still lost.

This team might just be bad.

by Tryce on Jan 16, 2012 5:37 PM EST reply actions

agree

So the "funk"we were waiting for them to get out of was actually just this years team?!

by midwestkids on Jan 16, 2012 5:39 PM EST up reply actions

i can’t even describe how i feel. We can’t stay down on the players, its only gonna make things worse, gotta stand behind these kids. But man it is getting harder and harder to watch. Looked like providence all over again, no heart and no leadership, everyone playing for the name on the back of their jersey

by dubs81 on Jan 16, 2012 5:38 PM EST reply actions

not sure they were playing selfish, just playing like a team that was getting beat in every aspect of the game. When you are down double digits with 5 minutes left in the game most teams look bad…lets just call it what it is. We have no real talent on the team (first round NBA talent) and we have several injuries…we dont have a good team

no second round either

although I believe Dieng will be first or second after four years. Unless of course he has a limb amputated in practice.

by cbcard on Jan 16, 2012 6:09 PM EST up reply actions

I missed the last five minutes of the game

I was in the bathroom taking a Pitino.

I never thought this team would be very good, but they’re worse than I could have ever imagined.

by Whacker77 on Jan 16, 2012 5:39 PM EST reply actions

Given how hard it is to win on the road

No Kuric and No Buckles made the odds of being able to hang with Marquette for 40 minutes fairly slim. They’re a solid team.

Nobody wanted to be in this position, but it’s where we are—Marquette was 4-2 in league play, and the next two teams we play are currently a combined 1-10. Beat them and we’re .500 headed to Seton Hall.

by doctorofdunk on Jan 16, 2012 5:40 PM EST reply actions

wow .500?,

when those teams include the likes of providence, depaul, notre dame, pitt and villanova….how is this a good thing?

by loubear on Jan 16, 2012 5:45 PM EST up reply actions

4-4 is better than 2-6

Although I’m sure if we are 2-6, you’ll have 100 comments on it in the next few threads.

by doctorofdunk on Jan 16, 2012 5:47 PM EST up reply actions

I kind of feel like I did the years after the 3-pointer was instituted and it was clear

that Denny was not going to be nearly as successful in the new game. CRP looks outdated to me now. Not sure why, but it’s the same feeling I had in the late 80’s.

What Happened To Buckles?

I missed the first half. Did he get hurt in this game? What’s his status?

by FrankensteinsJacket on Jan 16, 2012 5:45 PM EST reply actions

Lets be honest

Marquette was the better team. They have two bonafide studs in Johnson-Odom and Crowder. They were playing at home. You can’t say Louisville didn’t play hard but we didn’t have the horses to pull this one out. It’s ok. All we have to do is win 2 on the road and win the rest at home- which would mean a win against Syracuse and UCONN on our resume. I believe in this theory. Any other game is a steal.

by TCUCard on Jan 16, 2012 5:47 PM EST reply actions

It’s ok

Not ok. This is Louisville.

by James Sutherland on Jan 16, 2012 5:48 PM EST up reply actions

so?

you are saying best case is that we get an 8-9 seed in the tourny…if we get lucky the first round we get smashed by a 1 seed in the second round? That sound awesome for the “dream year” we were suppose to have.

by loubear on Jan 16, 2012 5:49 PM EST up reply actions

but then what? Come tournament time we are magically shooting better

Fans after the Providence game:
ZOMFG!#%#$&$^%@ THE WORLD IS ENDING WE SUCKKKKKK FIRE PITINO!!!
Fans after the DePaul game:
WOOOOOHOOOOOO YEAH BABY ROARIN BACK FOR THAT BIG EAST TITLE!!!
Fans after the Marquette game:
WTFOMFG!#%#$^$^# WE’RE THE WORST TEAM IN THE COUNTRY FUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUK BRING ME RICK’S HEAD!

It’s like dealing with my menopausal mother all over again
Teams lose games. It’s the Big East, anyone can beat anyone (except, it appears, Cuse).

by CardiacCards on Jan 16, 2012 5:48 PM EST reply actions

Many of us felt the same way about this team after all three games.

I like winning a lot more than losing, but the Depaul game did not make me think our glaring weaknesses had disappeared. And today confirmed it. That said, I will celebrate our victories, and I hope we can straighten out some of the problems.

The worst part about the loss has got to be the effect it will have mentally that’s why I said this was a must win

by midwestkids on Jan 16, 2012 5:53 PM EST reply actions

Len Elmore and partner

Am I alone thinking those two guys were totally clueless? No mention when Rak went out. No mention when Behannan and Deng were on bench n 1H w/2 fouls each and Nunez and Price are both in, at the same time. No mention of SVT out. They did mention KK. Not a bad showing all considered. We hit one more FG. They hit one more 3 (seemed like 10). And they hit 12 more FTs.

speaking of Nunez

Maybe the Rickster was right. On the first three possessions he was in he had two misses and a TO.

we really need to stop relying on Blackshear

his so injury prone is not going to make an immediate impact! he will only shine his Senior year just like TWILL and we will get excited untill we realize that this is his last year

Peyton

I love Peyton. All louisville fans should support him. But there comes a point when you must try something different. I believe the most glaring problem for this team is horrendous point card play. I truly believe that bullet could be a tremendous asset for us . Rick needs to sit Peyton down——- for the sake of everyone——- the team, Peyton & bullet. We’ve tried patience & it hasn’t worked. Give the point to bullet & be open to the possibility of Peyton earning it back.

by RodneyScooter on Jan 16, 2012 8:10 PM EST reply actions

Do you want to know why Peyton is playing bad?

He starts off the season with a little ankle injury, and doesn’t look like himself. People have ALWAYS been hard on Peyton. I witnessed him getting booed 1/2 of his freshman season. So per usual, all the SUCKY “fans” start berating him. At the games, on CC, on his own facebook- treating him like CRAP. So now he goes into every game, as the PG and captain, knowing the game is on him, everyone hates him, and he has to come out a hero to gain back any respect. But he has NO support. All he has is Peyton Siva’s Dad, me, Coach P, and maybe CS5. Not enough.
Peyton admitted the haters are putting added pressure on him. It’s gone on long enough- that’s not going to work. We ALL know he CAN PLAYOur PG needs support. Haven’t tried it yet, don’t think it could hurt.
