Ace Wales Commits To Louisville
OK, now it's more than a tad absurd.
According to The Courier-Journal's Jody Demling, Central High School running back Anthony "Ace" Wales has committed to Louisville.
Wales had previously planned to visit Western Kentucky and wait until early February to make his decision, but he told Demling on Monday that he didn't need any more time to figure out where he wanted to be.
"I want to be the face of Louisville football," Wales said. "Two weeks ago, I told coach (Charlie) Strong and coach (Vance) Bedford I was pretty sure I wanted to go to Louisville but I had to see Kentucky and make sure it was the right place for me.
"I am just excited to get it over with and be a Cardinal."
Wales finished his high school career as the third leading rusher in the history of Kentucky football.
Here's Ace Wales as a sophomore and junior (mute speakers if you aren't down with the rap):
Two running back commitments in one day has to reverse the basketball curse. It's just basic science.

Whoa
And I was worried after the Radcliff news. This is nothing short of amazing.
Hate to burst the bubble
But Mike Hughes of ITV is reporting that this was a little premature, and as of right now, Ace Wales is not part of Louisville’s recruiting class.
We’ll see.
Given Wales' quote, I guess that's U of L's decision?

What I took from it was..
Louisville & CCS have yet to accept the commitment.
Well.
I hope CCS accepts the commitment, being that Wales was someone we have been recruiting for a while. With the commitment of Brandon Radcliff however, the class just got a little bit tighter. If Wales’ commitment is taken, that would put us at 24 commits(?) leaving one spot open. I’m sure some of our lower ranked guys won’t be a part of Louisville’s signing class to make room, but as of right now they are still waiting to make Wales’ commitment “official”. .
In other words
Yes he possibly could have “missed the train”.
We have one player Early enrolling though, so that gives us one more spot.
Who else might commit? Are there any prospects other than Waters and Harvey Clemons that we have a legit shot at?
Yes, that is Mike Marra.

Early Enrollies
Still count towards this years class since they are on scholarship, and remember that Holliman takes a scholarship because he is considered part of the 2012 class. The only way that we would be able to add more players is to ask them either to walk on or grayshirt.. I believe Wales saw Radcliff’s commitment and decided he better make a move now or he might miss out. Radcliff is a better prospect IMO.. but we’ll have to see what CCS does.
Not sure on Waters, but Harvey-Clemons would be a shocker if he chooses us over UF or UGA.
No, they don’t. They count towards last year’s. I know what I’m talking about.
And I know we don’t have a good chance of getting them, but they are at least considering us.
Yes, that is Mike Marra.

Shouldn't be
It’s year by year I believe. It’s not like basketball. I could be wrong but I’m about 80% on that. A lot has changed since my brother was being recruited in 98. You get 25 a year. If guys leave it doesn’t go back into “your bank” so to speak. Someone can correct me if I’m wrong on that.
you're right
Teams get to have a max of 85 schollys for the whole team, but they can only issue 25 new ones each year. The only reason we have 25 to give this year is because so many left in the Kragthorpe years or didn’t get on the train when it left the station…in the future (esp. with all the redshirts we have had over the past couple years) we might get to a point in a couple years where we only have 15 or so new guys come in.
does anyone know if the transfers we got this year count against our 25 schollys for this year
I’m not sure if he has the speed to be productive. We seem to have a few average young guys in Perry, Lamb, Hogan, and now Whales, but I don’t think I see any of these being able to be a good starter.
Yes, that is Mike Marra.

Wait... I thought this was basketball season and football took a backseat.
Charlie didn’t get that memo… which is unfortunate for other teams in the Big East.
The curse is null and void
Every UofL fan (I make the distinction ’cause obviously most Kensucky fans would not get the concept) knows that two negatives equal a positive, i.e.
Negative + Negative =Positive
Curse of commitment+curse of commitment=No curse
Conversely if you look at the commitments as a positive, we’re still gravy:
Positive Positive =Positive
Good commitmentGood commitment=No curse
Go Cards!
positive + positive = positive?
Yeah, right.

I don't care for Mike Hughes.
As JD just tweeted:
FYI, those saying my Wales report was premature. He called Vance Bedford and committed. Can’t help he called me & TV before coach Strong knew.
Sorry but I can’t imagine Louisville wouldn’t accept a commitment from the all-time leading rusher in Jefferson County history.
I think the two commits...
…actually compounded the curse rather than nullifying it.
Which leaves me to think that if we get Harvey Clemons..
We will never win another basketball game. I think the universe just wants us to pick a sport to be good at. I vote football.
I vote basketball.

Redshirt Candidate?
UofL is so loaded at RB and Radcliff is a significanthy higher recruit (at least according to ESPN’s ranking), he is a 3* 75 (#67 RB) and Radcliff is a 3* 78 (#31 RB). i have to think that Wales will more than likely take a RS this fall. He was going to have to grayshirt at UK.
That’s why I expected him to commit to WKU instead of UofL or UK.
He is not part of the class yet.
Story right now is the staff gave Ace 2 weeks to public commit to the team. After the two weeks they gave him 48 more hours, then they decided to take Radcliff. Shortly after the breaking news of Radcliff I guess Ace decided he wanted to be part of the team.
I believe it is now the decision of the staff to decide if they want to add him or not.
