Gerod Holliman Cleared To Play At U of L

Gerod Holliman confirmed on Saturday that he has been cleared by the NCAA and will begin classes at U of L on Monday. The news was originally tweeted on Friday by Cardinal cornerback Andrew Johnson, a close friend of Holliman's.

Holliman, a former four-star safety who committed to Louisville live on national television during the 2011 U.S. Army All-American Bowl, was ranked as the No. 47 overall player in the class of 2011 by ESPN.com. He was viewed across the board as one of Charlie Strong's most important recruits in that class.

Holliman spent the past season at Milford Academy and is currently ranked as the No. 2 prep school player in the country, according to Rivals.com.

This is big, big news.

DePaul Day is real.

This is awesome. Rick better watch out, Charlie is stealing the show.

Seriously, great job Coach Strong. Can’t wait for fall football.

WOO FREAKING HOO!

Good work, Gerod! I like this kid already. Worked his tail off to get eligible. Shows a strong work ethic, at least mentally. And he has mad skillz, yo. We are gonna have such a BADASS defense. Hee hee!

Do you see him starting at free safety?

Or will Calvin Pryor still be the guy and Gerod will be playing in nickel situations?

It probably won't matter too much.

They’ll both get plenty of playing time and injuries always will happen.

Yes, that is Mike Marra.

We're loaded in the secondary now

I think Holliman is fast enough at 4.5 in the 40 to even be a good CB. At 6’ he’d be tall enough to be a menace at that position against taller WR’s. Most CB’s are a couple inches shorter but he has the speed at his height to work there if needed. All kinds of possibilities with a guy of his size and abilities. Our defense is gonna be so freaking awesome in the next few years.

I'd say you're more likely to see Calvin Pryor move to corner and leave Holliman at safety.

In the second half of the Belk Bowl, Pryor was moved to corner and Terence Simien was put in at safety and the defense did much better than in the first half.

Of course, I never saw a true freshman tight end starting at defensive end and getting a sack in his first game, either. So what do I know?

That's a good point

I forgot about Pryor basically shutting things down on his side in that 2nd Half. I think you might be right. Smith & Holliman at S, Bushell and either Johnson or Pryor on the other side. That’s probably the most likely starters.
