Pitt Head Coach Jamie Dixon fired
Pitt AD Steve Pederson announced this evening that men's basketball coach Jamie Dixon has been fired. Dixon, head coach at Pitt since 2003, won multiple national coach of the year awards and had a 227-62 overall record (.785) at Pitt, but only once guided the team past the Sweet Sixteen in the NCAA tournament (an Elite Eight appearance in 2009-2009). This season the team, at one point 11-1 and ranked in the top 15, is 11-6, off to an unprecedented 0-4 start in the conference, and has lost five straight games - most recently (and apparently the final straw) a 62-39 loss to lowly Rutgers - at home.

I have been scouring the interwebs and have found no trace of this.
If it is true then that is incredible that an AD would give up on a coach half way through the season.
i live in pittsburgh
in-laws are pitt fans. I’d be shocked if they fired him. He’s maintained that program from ben Howland’s days there and seems to be well liked by pitt fans. Understandably, they arent happy, but i dont really hear much negativity about the coach. Its injuries, young players, and a dip in talent

injuries, young players, and a dip in talent?!
Whose fault is that I ask, if not the head coach’s?

injuries are definitely the fault of the head coach
He makes them practice. In a gym. With basketballs. And the floor is hard.

a parody perhaps
Several hours later ESPN still has nothing on this so could this be a parody of Pitino?

Yes, that is Mike Marra.

I saw it too

Speculation regarding Dixon's successor is focused on
Brad Stevens, currently head coach at Butler, Sean Miller, currently head coach of Arizona, and Rick Pitino, head coach and on the cabswapwarm* seat at the University of Louisville. None of the three have yet commented on the opening; however, there are reports (well, a report – i.e., this one) that Chicken Knowles of Houston and second-leading scorer Bryce Cotton of Providence are considering transferring to Pitt if Mr. Pitino takes the position. Recruiting insiders Wiliam Wesley (aka “World Wide Wes”) and Austin Montgomery (aka “Me Time”) are thought to be playing a part in their decisions.

Wow, I'm definitely shocked.
Brad Stevens will be accepting a position at Pittsburgh within a few months.
