Great Story by Mike Wilbon.
All great things must come to an end., and it totally sucks that Louisville will probably end up out of the best Basketball conference ever, the new 16 team ACC.
Whats worse is that we will constantly be reminded how great the ACC is by DIcky V, Mike Patrick, and Bilas. This also is a low blow, bc i actually like Jay Bilas, and he will now be the biggest champion for the new ACC.
After being in the best College BB League for the last 7 years, its hard to imagine being anywhere else. Cards fans: we were spoiled by our weekly matchups between top 25 competition. We will surely miss our big east whipping boy, the Orangemen, farewell Cuse!
Alas, we must move on, and as a fan of both Cardinal football and basketball, I welcome the new schedule we will most likely face as a member of the renewed, twelve team, BIG 12 comprosed of: Texas, Texas Tech, Oklahoma, OK State, Iowa, Iowa State, BYU, TCU, Baylor, Kansas, K State, and Louisville. This assumes FULLLLER, ahem Mizzoui and Texas A&M to the SEC.
Looking at that pontential schedules, in football and basketball: we would have a strong football confernece 2nd/3rd strongest behind SEC and Maybe PAC12/BIG 10. We would get matchups with big time opponents, most likely we would have between 4 and 6 winnable football games each year, leaving us at 7-5 or 9-3, not bad in a good conference. In our best years, we could hope for a big 12 championship run at Jerrryland. Lets be honest, winning in the big 12 would be much more difficult than the big east, but we would be able to keep CHARLIE for quite a while, and the way things are going for cardinal football.. I like our chances against any big 12 team in 2014 (Senior Year for Teddy, Devante, Eli, Our Secndary, and tons of other upcoming youngsters!)
Our basketball conference would be 2nd/3rd strongest in most years with perinneal powerhouses Kansas and Louisville, Top-25 regulars Texas, K-State and BYU (jimmerless), respectables OK State, Iowa, Tech, Oklahoma with up and coming Baylor. No so bad, when you think that we would clearly be at the top of a good basketball confernece, and put ourselves in line for a high seed in the NCAA tournament (assuming that still existed.) I would definately miss the Big East Tourny, but seriously, it wouldn't be the same without The Cuse, UConn, and Pitt.
There's still hope for an ACC bid, but i think we would fit nicely in the Big 12. Time will tell and as we all have learned, this is purely speculation!
