What if Rick Pitino Walks Away; Is That a Louisville First Attitude?

Stay connected for news and updates

If Rick Pitino leaves the University of Louisville because of a move to the Big12,..... wait a minute, would he really do that? I honestly think that there are more people out there who like/ love Rick than don't; but, if he actually does leave because he doesn't like his new travel schedule, then I'm pretty sure that ratio would change dramatically. It's been discussed on this site time and time again,.... has Rick Pitino under performed during his time here? We all know there are plenty of fans who don't like him for many reasons; but, if he really does leave, or accelerate his retirement, because of a move that is obviously in the best interest of Louisville athletics,..... then is that really putting "Louisville first?"

I recently posted on whether or not this year was Final Four or Bust for Louisville fans, and the poll was about as close as it could have been; (852 votes) 50% to 49% with the yes vote holding a slight edge. The discussion that followed was a back and forth debate about Rick's tenure and whether or not it could be viewed as a success. There are plenty of folks on both sides of that fence, like 429 on one side and 423 on the other.

I think it’s pretty safe to say that no matter where your opinion of him stands, that his legacy here would take a big hit in your eyes if he were to leave us in the lurch simply because he couldn't go to MSG once a year anymore on the schools dime. There’s obviously a lot of discontent with his perceived under performance of 1 FF in 10 years. Throw in the Sypher scandal, him saying multiple times over the last two years that he’s been thiiiiiiiiiiiiis close to retiring, and all of a sudden his last couple of years here make him look  (for lack of a better term) .... like a selfish bastard,... if he were to leave the program on those terms.

Just my opinion, but I’d love to know what everyone else thinks about that. Because honestly he sounds about as petty and ridiculous as he possibly could right now with this talk about the Big East being alright with adding service academies as "football only members." That makes about as much sense as putting fake boobs on the Statue of Liberty.

I know that for me, if he decides to call it quits because of a move that absolutely has to be made, then so be it. He’s a grown ass man. However, depending on what happens this year, there's a strong chance that I would view his tenure as a waste of time, money, and a big embarrassment to the University for the scandal and then walking away because of the move. I wouldn’t hold any ill will towards him because of his tournament success, or lack thereof, because hey, shit happens. If you go 11 years without bringing home #3,.... then I'm not going to hate you for that; but, if you leave us on those terms, I'm not going to like you very much. Seriously,.. you wanna talk about “Louisville First” but then walk out the door when Louisville makes a move that really is putting Louisville first?

However,… if him doing that were to costs us a recruiting class, or set us back just one little bit,… I’ll be pretty hot. I can quote The Godfather with the best of them; and to that I would say:  You're nothing to me now; you're not a brother, you're not a friend; I don't want to know you or what you do. I will not like him very much at all, and I'll probably like him about as much as I like that coach in Lexington. Yes,.... I just said that. Please vote on this poll cause I'd love to know where you all stand on this one.
