Didnt Coach Pitino write the book Success Is a Choice? He did. Google the book and the sales pitch to buy it states, "He maintains that most of us continually undersell ourselves, routinely settle for less than we deserve, and grow conditioned to thinking that we can't attain the goals we set for ourselves.".
Now apply that statement to those that are not ready to hold the man in charge of running the program personally accountable for greater success. Those that are ready to accept anything less than deep runs in the NCAA tourney are settling for less than we deserve. YOU are now conditioned to thinking that the program is not capable of a higher standard and loftier goals. One Final 4 since he arrived? Thats good enough? 2 Final 8s? That Final Four is not a few years ago anymore. Its getting to be 2 full generations of playes ago. That was the 2004-2005 season. The players we are recruiting for the 2013 class were 9 or 10 years old (I had to use a calculator and still might not have that right but they were young regardless).
Accepting marginal success is not my choice. I think the coach should be held to a higher standard. George Mason and VCU have as many Final Fours as we do since he arrived. Accountability is part of every successful organization and it should start with the top and not with blame on excuse after excuse.
I know that winning the title every year is something that only UK fans expect and they are all lunatics or morons or both. I dont know how to define what is enough to be considered successful each year but I know what is not enough....and thats what we have been getting under Pitino.
Its time to expect more. The talent is there and there is no valid excuse to not deliver more immediately. As a good fan, i will support this team (albeit from the Philippines) no matter what but I will definitely hold the coach responsible if its another flame out.
