Fundamental Attribution Error and Fandom

It’s the dead period. Nothing is happening. The NBA Finals is like watching a Big 10 regular season game, the Champions League ended before most of us heard about it, and what do we have on the horizon? Baseball? Yikes.

Why not take a minute to examine why UK fans, or anyone else who disagrees with us about anything, are such jerks? Why does Scott Wallis* come to OUR board to cause trouble? I’m not going out on a limb here when I say most of us think Scott Walls is a d-bag; an entitled prick who thinks he’s better than UL fans because he was born into a UK household. He’s also a redneck and quite possibly inbred. Am I wrong?

In fact, this may or may not be Scott Wallis:

The other day, I posted an antagonistic remark on KSR (only time I’ve ever done it, I swear). Johnny, why would you do something so heinous? You might ask. Because it was a slow day at work and I was bored. It’s the dead period for chrissakes. I argued with a fellow card fan about whether we should care if Coach Cal does charity work, and another about  whether you can judge a coach based entirely on NCAA tournament record. I’ve made no less than 35 lady of the night, NAMBLA, and ricky rubio jokes (side note: the dream is over, Ricky’s going to the NBA). I’m desperate, people.

Psychologists call this the fundamental attribution error. You attribute your own actions to circumstances and others’ actions to stable personality traits (psych 101, bitches). When Scott Walls visits CC, I attribute his motivation to personality characteristics and the fact that his parents were probably cousins. When I visit KSR, its due to circumstances- I’m bored and looking to have a little fun with some mutants. Ask Scott Walls and the rest of the mutants why johnnyjoejohnson posted "don’t forget everything coach cal did for NAMBLA" on their "triumvirate" post. I’m guessing Scott would have quite a different perspective.
