Tony Woods looking at Kentucky, Texas
Very in-depth piece from Jason King.
By the end of the day, though, Woods had spent time not just with John Calipari and his assistants, but with athletic director Mitch Barnhart and university president Lee Todd.
"I guess they’re the ones who ultimately have to give me the green light," Woods said. "Hopefully I left them with a good impression."
Later in the conversation, Woods became emotional and had to fight back tears.
"It sucks," he said. "Whenever my name comes up, [the altercation] is what people associate me with. Hopefully I’ll be able to change people’s opinions. If not, I’ll just take what life throws at me and deal with it."

Yeah where's that fan in the thread a while back
who said “UK didn’t talk to Woods, Cal would NEVER have let it go so far.” Or something along those lines.

UK fan to me on Twitter on Oct. 17:
@crazygmeofpoker you honestly think UK is interested in a kid who averaged 4.6 PPG after securing a #1 recruiting class?
by crazygameofpoker on May 13, 2011 12:48 PM EDT up reply actions
What is it that's turning these kids off?
Not that I give a rat’s ass about Tony (and, based on all the negative comments at the time—especially Mike’s—I certainly know that 90%+ of you were against his recruitment) … but, Fuller leaves so now he looks at UK and Texas??? What am I missing here? After CRP takes a chance on him, he has close family in Louisville, and he’s lived in the area for a year … AND, to top off all of that, TJ leaves opening major minutes? So I start looking at UK where I’m going to compete with Davis and Jones for mins? I haven’t lived in my beloved Louisville since ’95 so I have to ask, “WTF is going on there?” I worry that these decommits send a bad message that becomes contagious.
+10000000000000000000000000000000000
I have exactly the same question. What the hell is going on here? Anyone can lose an occasional commit but we must be leading the pack. WHY??????
by Carolina Cardinal on May 13, 2011 6:59 AM EDT up reply actions
We don't lose an occasional commit
We lose like 80% of them. This is getting to be Kragthorpian. And that’s not hyperbole.
Sketch.
Only thing I can think of is Fuller was doing some shady stuff and now the kids want out since that’s not going down anymore.

It's looking more and more that way to me, too

Thanks for your contributions to the program, Tim. What a great guy.

I no longer associate Woods as the guy who harmed his girlfriend,
But the guy who basically said, “thanks Coach Pitino for letting me come down here to get my foot back in the door. All of this community service has really humbled me. I can’t wait to play against you next year! Without you, none of this would be possible. Thanks.”

It's not just that we're losing recruits, but that we're losing EVERY one of them to UK
Seriously, most of our best commitments over the last couple of years will end up wearing blue in college. WTF? Oh, and the floor that used to say “Denny Crum Court” now says “KENTUCKY WILDCATS” in blue and white letters. Name one other school that’s had to deal with anything like we’re going through rIght now with the U of Lexington
by uoflcard on May 13, 2011 8:10 AM EDT via mobile reply actions
Just makes me grateful
For our players that show up here to play as a Cardinal. This kind of stuff adds heat to the rivalry, but when they start beating us every year while snatching our recruits, it’s hard to stay humble.
by Get_In_My_BELLY_ on May 13, 2011 8:21 AM EDT via mobile up reply actions
Actually our court went with us to the YUM!
That court in the Hall is the one that sorry ass Kentucky bought so they can play one game a year there.

no big deal
this kid sees an opportunity and uk which has a big weakness next year which is a big hole in the middle. Let him go “who cares” I am all in on Dieng! Class kid who wants to work!
We just don't have much depth there.

I hope Price lives up to Pitino's faith in him
Rick sounds really confident about Price. I don’t mind SVT getting 10-15 mpg, but he can’t be our only viable backup at the 5.
by cardsinindy2010 on May 13, 2011 9:09 AM EDT up reply actions
I hope Rick's confidence in Price is completely different than
his confidence in “best shooter I ever saw” Marra.
He'll fit right in at uk

Jerry Jones on the underdogs
The other day was talking about shady recruitment and how coaches viewed their peers, whether they would turn each other in, ect..
One thing that stuck out to me from the interview was when he said that what really tipped him off when something was going on, was if every time you recruited against a school you lost out. Food for thought.
by James Sutherland on May 13, 2011 10:05 AM EDT via mobile reply actions
I heard that too
He made great points. The law of average he called it. I’m not losing sleep over losing Woods to Kentucky, but it does add to the list of players who have jumped to UK. I smell something fishy.
Of course it's fishy
Calipari is involved. No brainer. In a few years, after Calipari moves on and leaves another shit storm in his wake, some of what he was doing through his proxies will come out.

No Class
It’s interesting to see the ‘True’ feelings of Card Nation! All that False bravado & fake talk. Pretending to really care for this kid and look beyond his past as long as he could block some shots and dunk the ball 5 or 6 times a game for the Card Nation. Truly grotesque to see a few fans make the entire Cardinal base look like bitter, childish, immature, & possibly bigoted because a kid in the beginning of his life, CHANGED HIS MIND! Pathetic and shallow fools! Leave the kid alone and look at the Program as a whole. It seems more than this kid have either backed out or decided not to sign on the dotted line for Pitino. What is the common denominator? Not Kentucky or Indiana or Tennessee— The fact of the matter is these kids see that Coach Pitino just can no longer offer what they all desire: The NBA! Pitino is passed his prime & the quicker Card Fans realize it and move on, instead of blaming the potenial Student-Athletes; The Faster Card Nation can obtain the recruits to get back on top, or at least in the same class as Uk or UNC. Can you say Coaching Change?
Whatever, I have backed this kid.
Been all about giving him a 2nd chance. We did that, and when Fuller leaves we get shit on. I dont know who you claim, sounds like UK, but go back to BBN, and quit trolling. UK fans kill me, have nothing better to do then sit around and wait to see what else happens to UofL. Have you not seen what some of BBN’s fanbase put out there for that Pete Thammel? You talk about grotesque. I just said what o felt, he is a backstabbing woman beater.

Whatever, dude. People are rightfully annoyed after we took the black eye of being the first school to take a chance on him.
If you want to take shots at Pitino, this isn’t your best case.

No class is when
Someone joins a blog to immediately post crap about the resident readers of that blog.
No class is when
Someone begins their post with a sweeping condemnation of an entire fanbase (" It’s interesting to see the ‘True’ feelings of Card Nation" before conflicting herself (yeah, I think you are a c**t, regardless which bathroom you go into) in the third sentence.
No class is when
Someone curses and insults a few readers based on single posts without knowing a damn thing about them, their lives, their personalities or mentalities.
STFU ass.
So...
Classless is…
When you give this kid a chance to rebuild his career, rebuild his life, and rebuild his reputation when no one else would.
Classless is you go and say, "Thanks Coach P for really getting me back on track and giving me a chance when no one else would, but now I’ll use you guys as a stepping stone and throw you under the bus.
and FYI, you do realize we had a top 10 class this year, right?
"Marquise Teague sucks!"

I don't care how good Tony Woods ends up being
Kentucky can have him. Doesn’t hurt my feelings one bit.
This is disgusting
"People think Tony is some sort of monster," said Courtney Barbour, Woods’ girlfriend. "It’s a frustrating to everyone around him, because we know that’s not the case."
“Barbour’s defense of Woods is telling.”
Psychologists have a term for this: Battered Wife. You see it again and again. “it’s my fault he beat the shit out of me in front of our son.”
I hope tony goes to UK.

Pigino knew weeks ago about Woods
Think about it. When TJ said he was leaving CRP said we were in good shape at the 5 spot with Dieng and Price and that SVT would be the third man at that spot. No mention of Woods. He knew the kid wasn’t coming.
Not sure why people are reading into this...
From my knowledge of watching CBB and the rules involved. He COULD NOT mention Tony Woods even if he was a viable option. I am not sure if this is the same for transfers, but you cant talk about a player who is not signed. HE NEVER SIGNED.
He accidentally mentioned his name in a press conference and basically said “Oops….remove that from the record.”
The whole stupid KSR article “It’s breaking my back that Tony Woods may not play for Louisville” (or something like that) was based on Pitino saying TJ was keeping his name in the draft and mentioned Dieng, Price, and SVT would be filling that spot. Every one was freaking out saying OMG…he didnt mention Woods….
Please someone tell me if I am wrong but CRP couldnt talk about T Woods at that time and no coach can until he is signed.
This makes me sick to my stomach.
It’s not like I wanted this guy here in the first place. When they announced he was coming it was right when the whole Sypher thing was winding down; and my opinion was that although everyone deserves a second chance, he could get one at another school.
Then when TJ threw him name in the ring I said that if he left we would really need Woods. Why? Because if anything were to happen to Gorgui then the only “true” 5 would be Price, and even though he may turn into a very good player I have my doubts about any freshman playing big minutes in the Big East when they couldn’t dominate at J-Town.
Pray Cards Fans. Pray that Gorgui stays healthy and that Price’s growth and development take off as fast as Gorgui’s did as soon as he gets here.
As far as Woods going to UK is concerned? Well, I’m kind of at a loss for words other than to say I think it’s pretty funny at this point that so many UK fans were pointing and laughing out loud at Rick trying to bring him in and now Cal’s trying to do the same thing.
Other than that, if he does go to UK,…. Fuck that dude, everything he stands for, Tim Fuller too, and the horse he rode in on.

We have Gorgui Dieng.
That’s all I have to say about this.
by crazygameofpoker on May 13, 2011 12:36 PM EDT reply actions 1 recs
IMO, Gorgui getting 25-30 mpg to develop is probably a good thing.
But I would like to have a little more depth at the 5. That said, we will have 3 guys who can play the 5 on our roster. Unless the injury bug strikes again, that should be enough.
by cardsinindy2010 on May 13, 2011 3:17 PM EDT up reply actions
To think, a month ago we were looking and saying
Where are all of these scholarships coming from. Now we have one true center, craziness. The 5 was the one spot that was solid as hell, the point position was the only one of concern, as far as depth goes.
by ville 606 on May 13, 2011 4:19 PM EDT via mobile up reply actions
I think ZP is a true 5. And SVT can legitimately play that position.
Few teams have 3 true 5s on their roster.

and we will get one of these PG decommits/transfers
by I WantReeceBack! on May 13, 2011 5:33 PM EDT up reply actions
Rick has gotten several solid transfers
Marvin Stone (RIP), Reginald Delk, and David Padgett arrived as known quantities. Will Scott and Chris Smith (especially) surprised us.
Stout Out!
Don't like counting on players....
WE DON’T HAVE. We are good at the 5. Mixed with returning players who were some of our better rebounders at time of injury, the bigs will more than be able to tow the line. Still think this may be on of the most versatile and athletic groups in the history of Cardinal basketball.
Guys give it time!!!!!
In sports or business you never have 1 team / company that wins out time and time again. It just doesn’t happen. Yes you have the “stand outs” etc but even they don’t win out every time. When you see something like this happening you can almost guarantee something shady is going on. You could even relate this topic to the law of supply and demand. These kids who can ball are in demand. When someone catches wind of this they then enter the market and snatch up as much market share as possible in order to make as much profit as possible. (Cal). Once other coaches / firms catch wind they then begin to enter the market in order to capitalize and capture their share. Well with all things being equal the market should equalize and a price point will be set.
Now this all applies provided the coaches / firms are playing by the sames rules.. If not you then get into a monopoly scenario. At this point most of the rules of supply and demand do not apply…
Once this happens people tend to take notice and things start to shake lose. (Cals past vacated games )
It just takes time.
center position
With dieng and price playing against each other in practice, im sure it will help improve the both of their games. An unlike jennings price can shoot inside with either hand. Plus i heard coach keatts is good working with centers.

Wha?
You want Tony Woods to roost in his own goose that he cooked? I like you, man… but you’re crazy.
