Can't argue much

except I don’t think Texas will be very great…. but they always seem to keep a top 10 ranking besides sucking.

Same

The sport will improve in all aspects next year, maybe even a 2009-like year as far as talent across the country. I also agree with Texas. They were good this year but will pretty much be the same team, and for the most part they were out of the top 5.

I agree with UNC at #1. That McAdoo kid they have coming is is pretty good.

To be fair

he also picked us to win the whole thing in 1986.

1. UNC
2. UK
3. Texas
4. Ohio St.
5. Duke
6. UofL

More confident in OSU and Duke than UNC and UK at this point.

I know UK has a great class, but they have to replace so much (assuming Knight and Jones leave). Knight’s perimeter shooting will be missed. And UNC needs more/better perimeter shooting — maybe their class helps to address that.

I have no issue with us at 5-7 right now. That is a respectable starting point, and we’ll have plenty of opportunities to move up.

Here was his picks this time last year for 2010-2011

1. Duke
2. Ohio St.
3. Mich. St.
4. Villanova
5. Purdue
6. Butler

Mostly, he missed the mark with Mich. St. and Villanova. His Purdue prediction was before Hummel’s second knee injury, and they still hovered in the top 10. Pretty solid picks with Duke, OSU, and Butler. Actually, the Butler call is making him look pretty smart right now.

Stout Out!

We'll blow at least two games because we miss free throws.

Yeah, this is the positive value of negative thinking but I see no reason why our long standing mediocre performance in this area will change.

by cbcard on Apr 5, 2011 5:14 PM EDT reply actions

Not negative just honest.

It was clearly an area we need to improve

by Carolina Cardinal on Apr 5, 2011 6:33 PM EDT up reply actions

Don't be pissed when we talk about things we need to improve to be better

There is absolutely nothing wrong with that. Everyone does it all the time (I hope we get this recruit or hope someone recovers from an injury quickly, etc.) It’s no different than that.

I think it shows a very deep seated desire for the team to be even greater and I enjoy reading others thoughts about how we can be better.

it's one thing to say we have to work on an area.

it’s another to keep negatively throwing comments like those above in every post.

Not to be mean...

But you do remind us every day. You are not wrong, but it being shoved down our throats everyday is not inspiring.

Agreed

Seen the free throw thing several times.

We get it…

by twistedwedge on Apr 6, 2011 11:47 AM EDT via mobile up reply actions

On the positive side

I think next years team has a good chance to improve their free throw shooting next year. They were all 10-20% better shooters before (high school or previous school). That tells me they can do it and in a game enviroinment. And, I think they will improve next year. GO CARDS!

by Carolina Cardinal on Apr 5, 2011 6:32 PM EDT up reply actions

as long as we play the style of ball we do

slapping at the ball, going for steals and blocks, running the court… we will have tired arms and legs late in games, and it will cost us a few free throws. I think it’s worth it.

Because we were sending everyone to the boards to help rebound, we actually ran a lot less the second half of the season.

And since we played 10 guys lots of nights, they all had somewhat fewer minutes than many other teams that played only 5 or 6 guys. Not sure what it is but I sure hope they figure it out before next year. It sucks to outplay and outshoot your opponent only to lose it at the line. I think we can all agree with that!

by Carolina Cardinal on Apr 5, 2011 8:07 PM EDT up reply actions

I hope we shoot better from the free throw line next year.

I hope we rebound better next year.
I hope we commit fewer turnovers next year.
I hope we force more turnovers next year.
I hope we shoot better from 3-point range next year.
I hope we shoot better from 2-point range next year.
I hope we commit fewer fouls next year.

I hope we do everything better next year. But I’m not going to look for the two things we do worst at and harp on them until after the season is over.

Hmmmmm

You just described the 2012 NCAA Champion Cardinals

lol

by gary west on Apr 5, 2011 8:19 PM EDT up reply actions

Vitale also picked us to be in the Final Four this year

Didn’t quite work out. BUT, with our new talent coming in, the talent we’ve got coming back, he may be on to something.

Go Cards!

I'm not a fan of Vitale

But he is one of the few talking heads that goes out of his way to praise Louisville and Pitino. Sure, his love affair of Duke will never end, but I like that he brings Louisville into focus.
