Video, notes from Pitino's press conference
First, the video, courtesy of our friends at the Courier-Journal:
And your highlights:
- Richard Pitino and Wyking Jones will replace Steve Masiello and Tim Fuller
- There are 5 candidates Pitino currently has in mind to fill the final open coaching position (Lieberman's old job)
- Rick's son Richard played/is playing a big role in selecting candidates for hire
- The contracts for each new assistant coach are for two years at minimum and will include "Tim Fuller rule" (editor's quote, not Pitino's) buyouts should the new staff members leave Louisville before their 24 month commitment is fulfilled
- Jared Swopshire (sports hernia) has been running on a treadmill, should see the court in a month and will play next season; According to medical staff, Swop is ahead of Rakeem Buckles (ACL) in terms of rehabilitation
- Pitino wants Chane Behanan to get in shape and prepare for huge transition mentally and physically; said he's not sure why Wayne Blackshear decided to play [hurt] in the McDonald's AA game in Chicago but that WB's left shoulder surgery was successful
- Pitino altered his approach on early entries and will move forward with the assumption that Terrence Jennings is going pro, citing Samardo's situation last summer
- The appeal to take Pitino's U of L team to Puerto Rico was denied by the NCAA and there have been major changes to PRNT's summer schedule; Pitino will attend a meeting this afternoon to work out more details on this situation; Pitino wants to take U of L to another international locale in August, likely the Bahamas
- Transfers are in the equation (again) this summer at U of L; Pitino expects to meet with possible transfer candidates early next week
- Assistant strength coach David Padgett is a candidate for a couple positions on different staffs, may not be with Louisville very long
- Uncle Mo and Dialed In will be "cold exacta [box]" winners at the Kentucky Derby

Sucks that we need something like the Fuller rule.
Still think the Puerto Rico thing is unfair, but it is what it is. Don’t want to see Padgett leave either. This time of year sucks.
The only pieces of good news I took out of that was
- Richard Pitino and Wyking Jones will replace Steve Masiello and Tim Fuller
- Jared Swopshire (sports hernia) has been running on a treadmill, should see the court in a month and will play next season;
Not a good thing IMO
Maybe I'm reading too much into this interview and/or I'm an optimist
but it sounded to me as if Coach was laying groundwork for how things were going to be done at U.L. for years to come. For HIS future teams. And coaches are always pessimistic about player’s recovery times. Blackshear, Swop and Rock will be ready. Just won’t get many minutes during the Bahama trip.
I believe I picked up that RP will not coach the Peurto Rican team now because of this
Glad he always had UofL’s best interests in mind.
yeah, I remember one of the defenses he used about coaching the PRNT
in the first place was that he was on track recruiting and “Almost done” with 2012. With that explicitly not being the case anymore I would like to see him back down from that gig.

Pitino as PR Coach
Pitino has just been “fired” as PR Natl Team coach before even starting, it was clear that Pitino’s main goal was to use PR as a way to get the Cardinals prepared for the season and when those plans fell apart Pitino began doubting his commitment which led to the termination of the agreement.
transfers?
who is really out there to get? the only person i know of is that PG from NC State and he wasn’t an official transfer candidate until after this press conference. with that said, we could really use that PG in 2012.

I did some looking.
Flights are in the $500-600 range out of Louisville, as of now. Sounds like they’re playing at the Atlantis resort, which is NOT inexpensive. For example, I plugged in a 4-night stay and it looked like $2000ish on the low end.
If the stars aligned with my calendar, I’d consider going with some folks. Great excuse to get to the Bahamas.
Stout Out!
but there's poker
I’d love to stay at the Atlantis.
"Screech, you CAN'T elope!"
"Who are you calling a cantaloupe, you melonhead?"
Atlantis = amazing
Spent a day at the resort in the late 90s. Whatever they charge, it’s probably worth it.
