Still creepy, but still news - DaMarcus Smith may be eligible for Fall 2011
"…It’s looks as if DaMarcus Smith’s career at Central Florida will be a very short one. The quarterback recruit out of Kentucky, who appeared to be a steal for the Knights, wants out of his letter of intent and wants a full release, according to Jody Demling of the Louisville Courier-Journal. It is believed that Smith still wants to attend Louisville, where he was committed for more than a year before Charlie Strong pulled his offer and then reinstated it. The signal-caller has not attended classes at UCF so he should be eligible at Louisville this fall if he is released and ends up with the Cardinals. With UCF’s starting quarterback Jeffrey Godfrey not moving to wide receiver, perhaps Smith feels it’s in his best interest to move on. Will head coach George O’Leary let go that easily?"

So the QB
was going to switch positions. Must have been part of the business plan that I missed. That explains a bit of his reasoning for choosign UCF I guess.

Supposedly UCF's coaches told him that because due to Godfrey's height, his future if he goes pro is not QB
but according to Godfrey he was never even asked/told to switch.

Nice.
I think this is going to end up well. This will be the icing on the cake for our recruiting class.
Eligibility this fall hinges on getting a full release.
Not clear whether that will happen, it’s entirely up to UCF.
A partial release would mean he’s not eligible until next year; would it also cost him a year of eligibility, or could he redshirt?

He'd sit out a year a.k.a. redshirt
just like any player who transferred.

If he did have to redshirt
Might not be a bad idea. He’d have a year to shine after TB graduated, assuming that happens on schedule and assuming he didn’t beat TB out for the starting job in his first year of eligibility.
Until Smith himself, or an actual name gets tied to any of these reports
I’m not really believing any of it.
Mike Hughes on ITV confirmed a couple weeks ago that Smith was trying to get out of his LOI.
Then it kind of went away for a while. I’ve been wondering what the deal is.
Sucks for him
If letting stupid people in his ear costs him a year of eligibility or causes him to have to redshirt.

A redshirt year wouldn't be bad for him.
If Bridgewater is all we’re hoping he will be, DaMarcus could redshirt this year, back up Teddy the next two, and then when Teddy goes early to the League, take over for one or two as the starter himself. Or who knows, he could challenge for the starting job next year.
But I’m not counting my chickens. As of now, Smith is “100% a Knight.” This story is based on a report by Jody Demling. When Demling reported it, it was February 28 and he said he expected DaMarcus to file for a release “sometime early this week.” We’re into the middle of the following week now, and there’s no indication that anything has progressed.
