This is my first post here on the 'blog'. I hope everyone enjoys.
I'm sitting here taking a look at my bracket I fill out as the tournament progresses and I see that only two teams from our beloved conference have made it to the second week of the NCAA Tournament. We started with 11 from the BIG EAST. That's 18.18%. Not good.
What can be considered at least acceptable is the fact that of the 9 BIG EAST teams that have been knocked out, only 4 of these losses (UL,GTWN, PITT, ND) have come as a huge surprise to (I think) most of the public. Looking even deeper into these 4 losses, Louisville's lost to Morehead State the Cards went up against a team w/ the best rebounder in the country. They've struggled with rebounding all year. Georgetown's loss to VCU definitely was surprising, until you consider the fact that Georgetown played without a 100% Chris Wright and VCU had to prove to everyone that they deserve to be in this year's NCAA tournament over teams like Alabama and Colorado. Pittsburg's loss to Bulter was also surprising, until you consider the fact that Butler was in the National Championship last year and of the 3 best players on that team, they only lost one and I feel like Gary McGhee is not nearly the player that Matt Howard is. Notre Dame's lost to Florida State you could say is the most surprising until you remember that Florida State beat Duke and they're a clear contender for the National Championship (I have them #winning).
My dad made the comment to me that the BIG EAST schools going into these games felt they were believing "BIG EAST superior" hype, which I wish was not a possible reality, but it is definitely a possibility.
If anything has been learned about the BIG EAST this year, it is the fact that on a team-by-team basis there are many teams across the country who are not afraid of conference affiliation and conference affiliation does not give any team the right to win any game. I still feel that the BIG EAST is the superior conference. Basketball also has a lot to do with match-ups, and at least it appeared in this NCAA Tournament the match-ups did not workout to display BIG EAST superiority.
GO CARDS. GO BIG EAST.
