If blackshear doesn't start

There is a problem, after about 5 games chane will be starting too

i wouldn't hold my breath

freshman don’t excel under rick’s system. they just don’t. for every one that has, there’s 3 that haven’t. also, i worry that chane is going to be undersized in the height dept and oversized in the weight dept (he’s listed as 6’6 250 on rivals; ESPN is a little better – 6’7 230 – but describes him as having a “thick frame” that’s “gotten thicker each and every season”). i wouldn’t be surprised to see a DC-style weight battle shake out with him and CRP.

blackshear will definitely get minutes, but i’ll be surprised if rick starts him over a senior (rick is fiendishly loyal to seniors, even less talented ones – think Reginald Delk, who somehow got the start over the King for a whole season).

here’s how i see it shaking out:

First five: PS3 / CS5 / KK / Swop / TJ
Second five: EJ / WB / MM / Rock / Gorgui
Third five: RS / Hendo / Nunez / Chane / Price

I hope I’m wrong, because CS5 and Swop are decidedly unexciting to me. Ideally, we get to the point where our A-lineup is PS3 / WB / KK / Chane / TJ.

Finally, I expect big things out of Nunez in his time w/ us. he’s the type of player rick excels with – long, athletic small forwards that need development. think about how he developed Garcia and T-will from that mold…

Behanen and Blackshear will start

Swopshire will be first PF off the bench. Swopshire may begin the season as the starter, but Behanen will take the spot from him. Lets face it, Buckles is not going to be healthy. He’ll play, but best case scenario, he’s 100% by the tournament. And even if healthy, it usually takes a guy coming off a torn ACL about a year of playing AFTER they come back to get to their old form. I love Chris Smith as much as the next guy, but Blackshear is going to start because, well, he’s just better. I agree with GOCARDS, I don’t see Russ Smith coming back. He’ll have to downgrade, but he just isn’t going to have a spot here. Last, I expect the King to Stay the King, and Siva and Jennings will take over as the “stars” of this team. Can’t wait.

I never count on freshmen starting

It could happen, but it’s far from guaranteed.

I don't want to fall behind the curve here.

I don’t know if you’ve seen 5*s around the country. Wayne will be the most talented player on the team. Kids these days don’t need to prepare for college ball. It’s evolved. Lots of these kids are NBA ready out of high school. Wayne is one of them. Who are we going to start over them? Swopshire? His ship has sailed. Buckles over Behannen? He will be hurting until next calender year. As for Blackshear… CS5 I really like, but at times has disappeared. Marra? So far he has shown to be streaky at best. KK is more of a two. I’m just saying, I know there is a bust possibility, but freshman are a lot o the most talented players in the country.

My opinion

Blackshear will start from the get-go; he’s too good not to, and Rick has acknowledged that he is one and done. Behanan will not start but will get a starter’s minutes, merely because of the Pitino-freshman debacle. I was never really impressed with Swop but if he returns with the outside shot we had glimpses of I would like him as an oversized 3 sharing minutes with KK. That way Rock and Chane log a lot of minutes at the 4. CS5 should back up Blackshear at the 2 getting big minutes. I still like TJ and Dieng at the 5 and not sure where Woods will fit in. IMO Zach Price won’t get any minutes and could redshirt. PG position is self explanatory. This is how I see next year’s deep roster working out the best.

Pitino better start starting freshmen

if he wants to keep getting blue chip recruits. Otherwise why the hell would they want to come here when then can go spend their year somewhere else that will get them ready for the NBA.

Flip SVT and Dieng, both played the 4 and 5 respectively this year

I imagine it will stay the same next year. SVT isn’t large enough to play the 5 and doesn’t have experience doing it and Dieng will put on weight to be more assertive in the post at the 5 position.

TJ to the draft/pros

This year seems to be shaping up as a fairly weak draft (when comparing to previous years) I wouldn’t be shocked if TJ left.

Also....

I can’t see Rick keeping Chris Smith at the 2 for very long considering Blackshears length and how bad rebounding hurt us last year…but what do I know.

by card1116 on Mar 21, 2011 7:37 AM EDT up reply actions

Not sure how this will play out.

Never can be sure how a freshman will adapt to the college game. And, surprisingly, Chris Smith had more rebounds than any other non post player on the team. I’m looking forward to getting more boards from the post spot and augmenting that with the other guys which should be much improved as well. 2012 could be a really great year.

If Pitino called Blackshear a "one and done" player

I would expect him to start by December, if not sooner. If RP intends on attracting more talent with “one and done” intentions, I think he has to. Who really knows about the other freshmen. I would lean toward RP’s track record of starting experience over talent/upside.

Lineup

I would hate this like pitino said blackshear is a one and done so he will start he is just too good not to start. Behanan the same pitino said he would make a big difference this year and hoped he could put up big numbers so he will start.
Personally I think the lineup will be siva blacksher behanan jennings and buckles if healthy and if not maybe Dieng Swop along with buckles probably wont be ready for the being of the season
