Report from Downtown Denver
Just filling in on the atmosphere of the game after a disappointing Cardinals loss.
First off I'll say this: We were playing an away game. Don't let anyone tell you differently.
We had 50 or so fans there at that was it. Morehead state brought what must have been their ENTIRE STUDENT SECTION. Morehead's kids can get to Denver but our student section would rather go party in Florida? I'll let you answer that. Morehead had a really good (especialy for them) fanbase here, and coupling that with the fact that all the other fans of the other teams were cheering for them (or against us, but whatever) and this was basically an away game for us.
The fans we did have here looked disinteresed the whole game unless we were making a run. But whatever, the fat cats that feed this program with money never did cheer that much any way. What happened to the traveling fanbase of this team?
Its time to go get something to eat and enjoy the rest of downtown Denver. Wheels up tomorrow morning around 8:30 AM Louisville time.
Go Cards.

I'll say this, we are a pathetic traveling fanbase
If Morehead State can bring more people than you, there is a problem. Rick was right to rag on us in the BET championship game for not coming out.
agree
but, morehead did send 100 fans on buses. Wish UofL had the same offer—I know they did for the bowl game. Guess they decided not to because of spring break??
UofL fans would have come out for later rounds
Not that it’s an excuse, but the lower seeds often show up to early games if they’re rarely in the tournament.
The spring break excuse i can buy, but
i don’t believe that Morehead State has a more prosperous and wealthier fanbase than that of Louisville that they can double our fanbase at a neural site game. Our team hasn’t been a great road team and plays better with a home court advantage, and the fact that we couldn’t give them one puts part of this loss on us.
double?
Double our fanbase? I think they had at least triple our fanbase there. We used to bring 3 or 4 buses or 2 or 3 charter planes to the NCAA just for fans. What happened to that? No more Champion Sports Tours or anything like that. Basically a fan had to get their ticket and then find their own way out here and what not. Its very sad. Tom Jurich was out here and hopefully he wasn’t happy with the fanbase and can do something about it. Sometimes you just have to organize and give the fans a package to purchase instead of thinking they’re going to put their own package together.
Well it kinda makes sense to me
If you are a person who only has so much $$ to spend you must pick and choose what games you want to see. If I had the cash to travel to any of the games I would have probabaly said the cards are favored to win the next 2 games, so lets wait until the 2nd weekend when they will most likely play Kansas.
If you are the fan of the team which is not expected to win its a much easier choice… Go to the first game and hope they make it farther. If so its just a bonus but if not you were able to see them play.
Now I dont understand why UL didnt send a group of people over by bus… I dont think It would have been too hard to get a group large enough to fill a couple buses.
Buses
Would you want to pay money to spend 20 hours on a bus?
If all 3 of you are saying yes to this....
than I really hope you were in Denver, otherwise it doesnt make much sense to say “Ya I WOULD have”
And I was there and the ACTUAL MOREHEAD fanbase was not any bigger than ours. Actually I think we had more UofL fans as we had the area behind the bench but also I was in club level seats and in my section of 30 probably 18-22 were apparel wearing, cheering, cards fans. I got a good view of the whole arena and really we had more fans…… the problem is that the other 20,000 Richmond, Vandy, St. Johns, Gonazaga, and MORMONS fans were all cheering for morehead because they a. love the underdog (as we all do – thats part of why we love our team this season) and b. want and easier path through the tournament.

If something like the
$95 round trip/hotel bus deal offered for Beef was offered by UL for Denver (Obviously would have cost a little more), hell ya I would’ve gone. But no I didn’t have $1000+ stored away for fun times.

maybe
It all depends on someones situation I guess. Im just trying to think of ways to make it more affordable for people to go…. Whatever way I dont care…. Just some way to make it eaiser and more affordable for people to make it to the early games..
we need to do something
I would have killed to been out there. The only way would have been drive to cincy yesterday morning and fly to denver for 1000 bucks each way then get hotel tickets and food. I have been to several ncaa tourneys and when uofl plays within driving distance we bring a huge fan base. went to birmingham in 08 dayton and indy in 09 lexington in 07 and nashville in 05. Not everybody can make plans only 3 days in advance and drop nearly 2 grand.

Round trip air fare from Cincinnati is $2000?
Who knew?
"Screech, you CAN'T elope!"
"Who are you calling a cantaloupe, you melonhead?"
Next year
Whatever it takes. Start saving now, friends. If Jurich comes through with some organization, that’s great. And if not, CC just needs to make it happen!
