Your Card!

A little more ME time= Another idea for a great post.

Star-divide

In my off period at school all I do is go on the computer. I decided to look up alot of videos of our 2009 season. I realized, this was my favorite team of all time. I even came to this site and looked up alot of post made at this time a year two years ago lol.

But anywho, I thought to myself, I wonder what people at CardChronicle have to say about their favorite UofL player of all time... mine, you guys might reconize this guy..........

I mean I was always an Earl Clark fan too but how could you not like, I'm sorry LOVE Terrence Williams?

 20louisville_600_medium

This guy did just about anything on the court, and he was a pretty clutch player and a person the team can lean on when nothing is going our way.

His leadership, his personality, and his plain skill he brought to the game made my most memorable yeaar as a Louisville fan so special.

What do you guys think, who is your favorite Card.

Many of you are too young to remember him but - Wesley Unseld - consider this

Consensus 1st team All-American
1st in point score in a single game – 45
1st in points score in a 3 yr career – 1682 (and that’s 82 games)
1st in career scoring average – 20.6 ppg
1st in rebounds 3 yr career – 1551
1st in rebound average (career) – 18.9
2nd in career rebounds – 1551 (don’t forget this is only 82 games)
2nd in rebounds in a single game – 30
2nd in rebounds single season – 533
6th most points in a single season – 645
10th best field goal % – 55.8%
Led the conference in rebounding every year (66-68)

These numbers are simply unbelieveable. Especially considering that this does not include his freshman numbers (which incredibly were even better) – 35.8 points per game and 23.6 rebounds per game. For a little perspective, his freshman year he averaged as many rebounds as TJ, Rak, Gorgui, SVT, Kurik and Goode COMBINED and nearly as many points per game as those six (35.8 vs 38.8). With all the talk about our teams rebounding they should take a lesson from Wes. At only 6’7" he absolutely owned the boards. Many of the records he doesn’t own are only because they played so many fewer games than today. A four year starter today might play as many as 150 games in his career. For Wes to have played just over half of that (82) and still amassed the career numbers that he did is incredible. After leaving UL, he was both Rookie of the Year and the MVP of the NBA in 68-69. In 1975 he led the NBA in rebounds (14.8) and in 1976 he led the NBA in field goal % (56.1%). He finished his career as one of only a handful of players to score 10,000 points and get 10,000 rebounds. And for his 13 year career, he averaged a double double (10.8 pts. and 14.0 rebs).

And last but certainly not least, I met him several times at school and he was the most soft spoken humble man you could ever meet. This University has never had a better representative than Wes Unseld, both on and off the court. And finally, he gets my vote today because IT’S HIS BIRTHDAY! Happy 65th Wes and thanks for the memories.

Wes was an amazing athlete and a class act.

"Screech, you CAN'T elope!"
"Who are you calling a cantaloupe, you melonhead?"

No question about that.

I read that he and his wife operate a school (pre-kindergarden – 8th grade) in Baltimore. That sounds like Wes. A really great guy and incredible player. And one of the most humble individuals I have ever met. They should put together an instructional video of Wes and how he rebounded. At 6"7" he was almost always undersized in the NBA but was still able to lead the league. He has both the skill and the mindset to be a great rebounder (not to mention scorer). I’m not at all sure you can teach that. You can improve on someone’s technique I guess (like Jennings), but I’m not sure you can really teach them to be a great rebounder – like Wes, Rodman, etc.

Okay Rick, let’s put together a “Learn to Rebound Like Me – Wesley Unseld” video and glue TJ’s butt to a chair in front of it. Can’t hurt.

I'm not going to argue that Unseld wasn't awesome

But, it was a different game back then. More points. more rebounds. Anybody read Bill Simmon’s nba book? If you like the NBA, its an awesome read. But, I think he divided things up as pre-poster NBA ABA merger, which was in the 70s, right?

If you put Samardo Samuels in the 60s, he might average 47 points a game. He’d still suck at rebounding though.

Cisco

I have to say my favorite would be Francisco Garcia followed by Reece Gaines in a close second and T-Will at number 3

TWill used to be my fave...

Until I spent tons of money and drove up to see him play the Pacers with the Nets last year on April 10th right after our season ended.
I was already looking forward to this year’s team ( I knew Evil Edgar’s absence would mean ! & Bear would get to step up) and their humble preciousness. So when TWill was too awesome to come out to warm up and see him fans (lots of other Ville fans there too) and be WAAAAY to pissed off about a terrible loss to even look at me (!?) much less sign the 899898 things I brought, I decided he isn’t that cool. I know he is an awesome baller, but so are !, the King, and SivaBabyBearBear, and they would all show me TONS of love- no matter where I approached them.
My favorite Card of all time is and always will forever remain- Peyton Siva Jr.

David Padgett

outstanding passer from the high post and a great team leader. He needs to teach TJ, Gorgui, and all of the bigs we have coming next year. Real heady player, really made that 2008-09 team “go”…

Cisco I loved because of his passion. Always looked like he gave a F, every game, no matter what.

Preston!

Absolutely my number one. (I love Padgett a lot too, though.)

“Favorite” isn’t the same as “best.” Unseld’s the best.
