Best headcase I've ever seen

Mike Marra causes me to scream more than anyone. My humble opinion, and of course I could be wrong, the dude has a bad case of 'headcase'. Meaning he can't shoot worth a hoot except for those rare times when his first couple of shots go in.   I say this because in 18 games played, he made 5 three-pointers once - against South Akabama mind you - and in another four games he made 3 (South Florida, Seton, Jackson St and Chattanooga.) So that's 17 3's in those low-RPI wins, but he took 43 shots to make them (39.5%.)  In summary, his best scores come against lower level opponents, and even then his percentage is tepid.

Star-divide

MM played in all 5 Louisville losses, however has not played in all its wins. In the losses, MM went 1-15 from outside the arc (7%) at 15mpg. He was used in 13 of UL's 17 wins, going 17-89 (19%) in 24mpg. Curiously, he does a little better during conference play 9-28 (32%) than out 20-76 (26%).  That totals 29-104 (27.8%) on the season.

This all has been about Marra's long range shooting. Whether you regard his other contributions more might be relevant. He trails only Preston! at the charity stripe with 82%, so he could be useful in special foul scenarios. He does have a nice assist to turnover ratio at 1.9, trailing only Bullet 's astonishing 2.9 and Big Tim's 2.0.  (Editors note: Big Tim shoots the 3 better than Marra.)

Rebuff me if you will for this post, but frankly, it drives me insane seeing him out there. (While watching his 0-5 stint in our Providence loss, I had to take a sedative.) I don't see why Coach gives him so much playing time. Not that he hasn't had a few shiny moments, but I think 20+ minute Cardinals should have more than a 'few' shiny moments.

What do you think?

He drains them in practice

What do you want him to do hit 100 3’s in a row? He will make them without a problem in the gym, people in his face during games and its a different story. I don’t think more gym time will solve this, atleast not practicing solo

He seems like the guy to me...

…that is most likely to transfer due to a scholly crunch. He’d have 2 years at an A-10, MEAC, or Patriot League type school where he would be the most athletic guy on the court. He’s athletic and heady but clearly not as efficient as Kuric or Chris Smith – his main competition for minutes on this squad.

At this point last year Kuric wasn’t necessarily scoring but he wasnt bricking/airballing wide open shot either. Plus Kuric’s best skill has always been his ability to be in the right place at the right time ot get his hands on rebounds at both ends of the floor – something no one else on this team seems able to do.

Chris Smith, meanwhile, is our best finisher in the lane and uses that skill when he knows he’s not feeling it from 3 on a given night. Marra just doesnt have the handle to do anything when his jumper is broke.

I see his minutes dropping off a ton for the rest of this season when Rock comes back as Kuric will move back over to his natural position full time – the 3 spot.

Next year he’ll get buried even further.

PG – Siva, R Smith, Bullet
SG – Blackshear, C Smith, Marra
SF – Swopshire, Kuric, Nunez
PF – Rock, Behanan, Van Treese
C – Jennings, Deng, Price

and with Purvis coming in his senior yr he’s gonna be a backup again.

I disagree with the SF

I think kuric will start over swopshire, and c smith starting over blackshear at the beginning of the year, but I hope blackshear is ready to start by the end of the year

totally true, it could be that way too

but i think that fact even drives home the point more that Marra is really out of the rotation at both positions.

I would love if that happened.

Yes, that is Kyle Kuric

calm down

He will be fine, his confidence is gone in his shot and he’s thinking too much about it. Coach P is doing the right thing by playing him some minutes even though i agree in certain times of games I wouldn’t play him with ( mostly late in games). The kid just needs confidence. M&M will be fine

I agree with his shooting

’tis abysmal at best…

However-Mike is a great passer, rebounder and good defender.

To quote el senor sandbag-“Shooters eventually shoot themselves out of a slump” I think this is true in MM’s case.

If he made 2-3 (out of 6-7)per game would your opinion change?
