Sypher gets more than 7 years
Calling her crime "brazen," a federal judge sentenced Karen Cunagin Sypher Friday to 7 years and 3 months in prison for trying to extort cash, cars and other payments from University of Louisville basketball coach Rick Pitino.
U.S. District Judge Charles R. Simpson III also ordered Sypher, 50, to serve 2 years of supervised release. He told Sypher to have no contact with Pitino or his family during her release.
Simpson called Sypher’s crime a "serious offense."
"It was brazen," the judge said. "It was driven apparently by sheer greed."

I wish the media and the Judge would have made more of a big deal about the fact that she falsely acused him of Rape.`
To me, that’s a much bigger deal. It’s crazy bitches like that who make it harder for women who are really raped and assaulted to get justice. At the very least harder than it should be. If I was the DA I’d charge her with that, if I could?
Mike, is falsely accusing someone of rape a crime?

malicious false prosecution?
"Screech, you CAN'T elope!"
"Who are you calling a cantaloupe, you melonhead?"
not a crime
but Pitino could sue her civilly for defamation. But considering 1. she has 0 assets and 2. it would be a public relations nightmare for him to do it (millionaire coach sues woman he cheated on his wife with for defamation because she claims the indiscretion was rape rather than consensual….you get the point) nothing will happen.
and since he wasnt charged with rape or any crime actually, there would be no malicious prosecution claim. That claim would be against the prosecutor’s office and the commonwealth of Kentucky.
While these false accusations of rape are frequent, prosecutors do not bring the charges unless they think they can prove them beyond a reasonable doubt. See Roethlisberger.
Any criminal lawyers here?
I believe filing a false police report is a crime, at least in some states. You’re certainly right about the proof issue, though.
false police report
is a crime but in this case 1. they would have to prove that she honestly didnt believe she was raped and 2. they would have to prosecute her for the crime after her federal criminal trial was complete. As prosecutors have discretion on what charges to file, it really wasnt worth the wait or the states resources to go after her on this charge.
She’s doing 7 years in a federal pen. I think justice has been carried out on this one.
Agree 100%, Chick.
This woman is every man’s nightmare, and every assaulted woman’s too. She’s the type who helps introduce reasonable doubt into any rape prosecution. Everybody knows people like her are out there. I like to believe they’re rare.
BURN BITCH BURN!!!!!!
As far as I’m concerned she got off LIGHT after ruining our Final Four run in 2009.
Enjoy your stay in the federal pen, Whore.

Just watched Tom Jurich's presser on the CJ. When asked how much time he thought she should have gotten,
Mr. Jurich said “I don’t know what the maximum was, I wish I was the Judge.”
Ouch

Burn motherf%#*%*, burn!
I totally agree with “Chick-Stratino’sUrDaddy”…..rape, in my opinion, is the worst crime any human being could ever commit…..and to try an falsely accuse someone of that crime makes me sick….she deserves more than seven years if you ask me, not because of the extortion, but because she could have potentially ruined a mans repuataion, and life…..rape is no joke….yes, it showed Rick may have been unfaithful, but thats his personal business….she deserves what she has coming to her
