Driscoll admits to having blown the T call

In Pitino's press conference today he says that when he told Driscollthe call was absurd, Driscoll replied that he called the T because Kuric said something to the Notre Dame player.  Driscoll then walked away and talked to another official.

Fifteen seconds he returned and said he was wrong and that Kuric hadn't said anything but it had to be a T because he looked at the other player.  That's the same as a cop writing you up a ticket and half way through he realizes you weren't guilty of a violation but once he starts writing that's it, he can't tear it up.  Driscoll knew he was wrong but couldn't rescind the T.

So the ref admits it was wrong.

But the Big East makes no comment. Big East needs to overhaul it’s officiating. No accountability.

This really pisses me off. Why the hell did he even talk to the other official then?

Ridiculous, absolutely ridiculous. Good analogy with the ticket. This is as simple as Driscoll knowing he made a mistake and just being too stubborn to admit it; so, he found a way to make it stick.
Anyone know what article 134 is in the uniform Code of Military Justice? This is bullSHIT. How much of a gutless-chicken-shite-turd can you be Driscoll?

  • Driscoll: “Did he say anything?”
  • Other Official: “No.”
  • Driscoll: “Really, cause I could have swor…”
  • Other Official: “No Pat, he didn’t say anything.”
  • Driscoll: “Dam, I’ll look like an ass for making the call way behind the play like that.”
  • Other Official: “Pat, we have to make a call here.”
  • Driscoll: “DAAAM IT, He stared at him though didn’t he?”
  • Other Official: “Uhhhh? He looked down at him while he was landing, and then for a second before he turned around and walked away but….”
  • Driscoll: Wheeeew!!!! That’s all I need."

Am I missing something?

Where did he admit he was wrong in calling it? Enquiring minds want to know. If you read the discription of how it went down, it says he admitted he was wrong about KK saying something to the ND player, but still maintains it was the right call because KK (if he is King Kyle does that make him KKK? Yikes!) stared at the player.

Call me anal, but I like to think that words and phrases in the English language have some sort of realitive clear meaning.

Ok, so here it is man. Yes, if you read it in black and white then yeah, he made the call becasue KK looked at Martin.

But, in the real world things aren’t as simple as Black and White. There’s a gray area, and that’s where most of the logical explanations for things are found. Follow me here.

  • Driscoll made the call because he though Kyle said something, he admitted as much.
  • Now for the Gray area. He told Pitino he made the call for reason A. which would have been a clear reason to make that call. He didn’t tell Rick “he said something AND stared at him.” Which tells you that he initially thought almost nothing of the look Kyle gave, until the other official told him the King said nothing.
  • As a matter of fact he said (According to Rick), “he looked at him” after he came back from talking to the other official and realizing he had made a mistake for his reasoning behind the call.
  • Gray area.
  • At face value his statement of “he looked at him” is a valid reason for the T(I guess?).
  • But when you actually anylaze how it all went down it’s not that simple. Driscoll had just made a mistake on national TV and the only way to save face was to make the Technical stick. Everyone could see that Kyle didn’t say a word, and he knew that. So he made the call stick.
  • Article 134(catch-all)

He's officially "King Kyle Karter" to me from this day on

I wanna see more flushes like that one.

I think you either admit something and take responsibilty or you don't. He didn't.

Never said I thought it was a good call, or that he wasn’t full of shit. Which is exactly what I mean. If he admitted it he would say “I blew it” or something to that affect. But why argue about it. It sucks. I’m sure we can agree on that.

That may well be a Cardinal fans take on it...

But I don’t see any indication that is what Driscoll is thinking. I see no indication that he feels that way by simply admitting Kyle didn’t say anything. All I see is him admitting he made the right call. Unless you are a mind reader how can you know what he is thinking beyond taking what he says at face value? I guess you can, but that is just your own story created in your head. As for me, I genuinely think that he believes he made the right call. He says he thinks he did. He sure hasn’t admitted it was a mistake.

He may not put it that way

but here’s the gist of the dialog:

Driscoll: “I gave him the T because he said something.”
Real world: “But he didn’t say anything.”
Driscoll: “Well, he looked at the guy.”

Me: then by Driscoll’s own word, he didn’t do what he was T’ed up for.

Read what he said

He told RP he called the T because KK said something. He didn’t say it was because he looked at the other player. It was BECAUSE HE SAID SOMETHING!

After talking to another official he found out KK didn’t say anything. That’s when, and only then did he pull an Emily Latella (Never mind) and CHANGE HIS STORY to say it was because KK looked at the guy.

Driscoll changed his story when he learned he had made a mistake. How much more clear does this have to be?

You're right. When in the lime light and as of shit as Driscoll, you have to believe your own Bull.

I don’t think he literally admitted that he did it either. I do however believe that through the interpretation of what actually went down, he knew he was making a shit call when he did it. Like I said, I think he just found a way to make it stick after his initial reason was out the door.

Exactly!

Thank you! It has become something of a bleaguered point, but my take is he did the complete opposite of admitting it. He attempted to justify it.

He didn't mean to, but he inadvertently admitted it

He screwed up and changed his story to save face.

I can understand that. What I can’t understand is Knight and Digger not letting it go. They should apologize to Kuric for it.

yeah it was in his head

for sure.
