Purvis and Blackshear put on show for Cards fans

We didn't have a chance to talk about it since it was sandwiched in between a pair of huge Big East road games, but on Sunday afternoon Rodney Purvis and Upper Room Christian (N.C.) defeated Wayne Blackshear and Morgan Park (Chicago) in front of a packed house at Bullitt East High School.

By all accounts it was a strange afternoon.

Blackshear, playing his second game in Louisville in as many days, was hit quickly with three fouls, a move which drew some extreme ire from the Cardinal fans in attendance. At one point, a frustrated Morgan Park head coach pulled his team off the floor and then sent them back out. The class of 2011 superstar bounced back, however, as Blackshear scored 23 of his game-high 24 points in the game's second half.

For his part, Purvis led the victors with 18 points. Both players were named the MVP for their respective team.

Here's the video.

i was there

i was amazed how packed the gym was on a Sunday afternoon. 2500 people there. Actually a pretty good number of UK fans. I’d say about 10-20%. It was loud and exciting. both guys were there to put on a show. Blackshear was terrible in the 1st quarter starting 0-7, you can see he really wanted to get the fans out of their seats. Then he got in foul trouble and had to sit, by halftime his team was down 18. In the second half i think he settled down and we saw what he is capable of. All the highlights in that video of Blackshear were in the 2nd half. He was terrific. He has his step back 3 that is impossible to defend with his size. Great jumper, big body and needless to say he will be a day 1 starter at UL and tear up some people once he has some coaching under his belt. Blackshears team was more streetball, they kind of just ran around and played with their athletism. So i think Blackshear has a lot of room to grow.
Purvis on the other hand is well coached. They were a lot smaller than Morgan Park but yet dominated most of the game up until the 4th quarter. I didn’t see Purvis show his range at all. most of his baskets were too the rim. I’ll tell you this though, the kid can pass. I said to my friend many times on a lot of his passes that his teammates just couldnt catch because they were NBA passes and only a big time player could handle some of the dimes he was dishing. His ball handling and passing is NBA ready right now. What needs work is his shot and decision making on going to the lane. Both will be very special. Sorry for the long post but man it was fun to watch those guys.

I like this

Especially long term. If Pitino gets Blackshear to the NBA as a one and done, recruiting is gonna be amazing.

But a lot of that blue was for spencer county. They played bullit east in the second game. Definitley a great atmosphere in that gym.
