Rick Pitino And John Calipari Talk At High School Game
Louisville head coach Rick Pitino and Kentucky head coach John Calipari were both in attendance at Butler High school Tuesday night to watch class of 2013 star Derek Willis of Bullitt East.
The two coaches, who took part in a mild(?) war-of-words during the offseason, eventually shook hands and spoke briefly.
Here's WHAS-11's Adam Lefkoe with the story and the visuals:

Just a thought...
and I am sure I will get bashed. But if Ricky P is all about Louisville, why not wear something U of L related when in public recruiting a player?

You call yourself a fan?
Get over yourself. Rick Pitino puts Louisville first. You are the worst. Leave this blog and never come back. Consider yourself Franklin and Bashed.
That's some nice bashing right there.

I believe it. I actually heard someone say something today that illustrated how astonishing their obsession truly is.
I was at an event in Shelbyville for my job. You’re usual buffet/ free lunch/ shmooze and business card exchange, complete with mind numbing “how are things going in your office” type shit. I was by far the youngest guy there; there were lots of older gentlemen, all near retirement age, and all of them backslapping and talking about their grand kids.
Just before the lids were removed from the trays of food, I overheard one older man commenting to another about his blue sweater. He asked him why it wasn’t UK blue? He responded by saying that he was from Detroit and it was “Michigan Blue.”
The rest of the conversation was pretty amusing for a few reasons; but, it was mainly due to the fact that this guy (in the blue sweater) was obviously either a true asshole, just old and not giving a shit about anything anymore, or… totally fed up with UK fans in general. It went like this.
Michigan Fan: I don’t know why it would matter to anyone what shade of blue I want to wear anyway.
Kentucky Fan: Well I was just wondering if you pulled for the Cats.
BSG: No I don’t as a matter of fact, sports are supposed to be fun and UK fans take it far to serious for me.
KF: What do you mean?
MF: Well, I’ll just never understand how a group of people could worship a coach and his players the way UK fans do. I just don’t get it. It seems to me that they take it so seriously because it fills some void in their lives. I think that’s especially true for the rural portion of their fan base.
KF: (Somewhat shocked at the response he’d gotten) We’re just passionate about our College Basketball I guess.
MF: No,….. it’s more than that. I’ve never met a group of fans who invest so much of their happiness in a sports team. It’s just not healthy.
Even though I agreed with what the Michigan fan had said, I actually felt sorry for the UK fan at this point because the Michigan fan was just being an asshole; and, the UK fan seemed like a very nice/ polite person. He could have just been an asshole right back to the Michigan fan but instead he just played it off and moved on to the next unimportant conversation.

Select the word “video” in your comment, click that icon, enter the link URL, click Submit, et voila!
Or you can do what the formatting guide says, and type “video”: followed by the URL.

Find it interesting that Calipari went to Pitino
Since there’s really “Only one basketball school in Kentucky.”

First Thing I Noticed Too...
Calipari has the entire gym to sit in and he goes straight up to where Pitino’s perched, in the very top row (probably to avoid having The Vacater sit behind him, breathing down his neck). I can only imagine when Rick first spotted Calipari heading his way, kind of like when Jerry runs into Kenny Bania on ‘Seinfeld’ at Monk’s coffee shop.
Jerry: “Oh, God, it’s Bania.”
George: “Who?”
Jerry: “Kenny Bania, he’s this hack comedian. Scoot over to the end of your seat so he can’t sit down.”

Haha
Calipari before entering the gym:
“Rick’s in here!? Heh, let’s go show’em who the real star in this state is.”
Calipari arriving to Rick’s personal space:
Ah man……this is the guy who whupped my monkey ass every time it mattered…… “Hey, Rick! Sup, Bro!”

? What'd KP do or not do?
No idea, but maybe he has a deep seeded hatred for RP and cannot let it go? I mean he did play for Denny. Maybe he feels like a lot of people that DC was treated WRONG when he was asked to leave for RP.
However, if DC is still Louisville First, maybe KP can eventually let whatever it might be go…

Unless its a school that takes Charlie Strong. I won’t be a fan of them, and I don’t think I can handle the emotional torment of 3 of 4 football coaches leaving Louisville for another school…

BREAKING SPORTS NEWS!!!!!!!!!!!!!
OH MY GODDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDD
So does anyone know
if any school is on Willis’s hot list.
"Winning gets you where you want to go"
-CS5-
He committed to Purdue, then de-committed.
All signs point that he’s going to lean towards either UK, IU or UofL.
by Remote Cardinal on Dec 7, 2011 11:10 AM EST up reply actions
I was thinking more like
1. Willis Commits to UofL
2. Fast-forward to 1 week before signing day.
3. Willis begins to waiver on UofL commitment.
4. Rumors about that he’s signing with UK
5. Signs with UofL.
6. UofL fans shove this in UK fans faces.
7. UK fans say they didn’t want him anyway and their their recruit could have gotten to the basket in 1 step in the video rather than 2.
8. Fast-forward to May.
9. Rumors come out that Willis didn’t make a qualifying score on his SAT.
10. Pointless speculation about Willis’ test scores continues all summer.
11. Willis is still awaiting clearance by the NCAA in early August.
12. Willis is cleared by the NCAA the day before practice starts.
13. First day of practice, Willis hits his head on the rim, goes blind and simultaneously kicks Peyton Siva, Wayne Blackshear and Gorgui Dieng in the faces, giving them concussions that last 3.5 months. While falling to the ground Siva breaks Ware’s jaw, Blackshear hits Behanan in the groin and tears it, and Dieng knocks Price into a fan, who then loses his index finger on his shooting hand.
14. Willis drops out of UofL.
15. UofL loses 5 games during the absence of 7 players. During this period Elijah Justice leads the team in all statistical categories, but doesn’t average double digits in any of them.
16. Willis’ blindness is miraculously cured.
17. Willis enrolls at Butler in 2014.
18. Willis and an energized Butler team knocks UofL out of the 2015 NCAA tournament in the First Round.
19. Pitino says “F this BS” in the post-game presser and retires.
20. In an ironic twist of fate, UofL hires Brad Stevens.
21. Granted a waiver by the NCAA, Willis transfers to UofL for his 5th year in a graduate school program that only UofL offers.
22. Cardinal fans pretend they loved Willis all along, that he was always a loved Cardinal and we are glad to have him back.
23. UofL wins the 2016 National Title, led by Derek Willis.

Pitino is 2-0 versus Stevens over the past two seasons with an average margin of victory at 15.5 ppg. In the absence of a handful of players this season, Louisville’s only managed to win seven games, go undefeated, started its season at 7-0 for the second consecutive season (the first time that’s ever been done in the 100-year history of Louisville Basketball) and is ranked in the Top 5 in both major polls.
