Is Russ Smith #2 playing as good as Preston Knowles #2 from last year?
All I know is that Preston Knowles had a killer mentality when he played for the University of Louisville.
He could shoot and light up the scoreboard. He was a good defender and could come up with steals.
He could also pass the ball and assists others in scoring.
He was pretty awesome!!
I'm noticing after every game that Russ Smith has been coming on strong for the Louisville Cardinals.
He's defending the rim pretty well and coming up with big steals.
Also, he's shooting the ball and lighting up the scoreboard.
I don't know if it's a coincidence that Russ Smith has ended up with the #2 jersey this year but;
the question remains.

I told a buddy after the first game that Russ reminds me a lot of Preston when he first got on campus. Preston came in with some off the court issues, was not a highly ranked prospect but no matter what he would played as hard as he could for as long as he could.
Russ’s career at UL has started with the same type of pace. Russ is a terrific on ball defender and has shown signs of help defense which has led the his gerth of steals as of late.
The major difference is that Preston was a very streaky shooter and Russ is more of a pure shooter. Russ is much quicker than Preston. He is also a much more creative shot taker than Preston was.
He's still nowhere close to Preston!'s shooting
We would have destroyed that zone with Preston! last night. But defensively, Russ is better than anyone we’ve had since I’ve been a fan (mid-90’s). It’s uncanny how easily he steals the ball. He’s also a much better playmaker than Preston!. I’d still probably take Preston!, but I’m not too sad with Russ right now

There are some similarities
Recruit Russ vs Recruit Preston! were similar.
Both moved from the point to SG
Both started out as a defensive role player.
Yes, that is Spike Lee.

I think Russ off the bench is a great tempo and morale booster
You can really see our team try to get after it when he’s out there scrapping.
unfair comparison
Compare Russ of this year to Preston as a sophomore. Wait until Russ is a senior to compare him to the Preston! of last year.

This kid is the fo-shizz-nizz
Thank goodness he didn’t transfer!
Now if Siva can get back
to his old confident, play-making self, this would be a good offensive team!
