It looks like Michael Chandler’s recruitment has taken another surprising turn.

In light of an NCAA investigation, Central Florida has backed off of Chandler, sources told CBSSports.com.

Chandler committed to the Knights on January 1 of this year. The NCAA has reached out to Chandler concerning his assocation with potential agents and runners.

“We were told that UCF had to stop recruiting him,” Allan Chandler, Michael’s uncle, told CBSSports.com. “Their school attorneys told them not to have any more contact with us.”

Chandler, a 6-foot-10 center originally from Indiana, is currently at Faith Baptist Prep in Florida. He has not yet been cleared to play in college.

“We’re still waiting for him to get through the Clearinghouse,” Allan Chandler said, “to see if he has to wait until after this season or next season, or if he can play this year.”

Chandler said he has heard from a couple of schools in the SEC and Big 12 as potential suitors, while coaches at Faith Baptist have also fielded interest from different colleges.

Chandler said that a lot of schools have asked questions about the former top-50 recruit and one-time Xavier commit, but they don’t have answers right now.

“As for any decisions or any schools, we haven’t really thought about that yet,” he said.

While the hope for Chandler and his family is that he will still be able to go to UCF, they seem to be in a holding pattern right now. Wiith clearinghouse questions still to be answered and eligibility concerns popping up, no one knows what the future holds for Michael Chandler.

“We’re unsure what’s next,” Allan Chandler said.
