Kevin Ware Could Play First Minutes Against Memphis

Stay connected for news and updates

Rick Pitino announced this afternoon at his weekly press conference that freshman Kevin Ware, who joined the team earlier this week, could see the floor during Saturday's game against Memphis.

"If he has another good practice tomorrow, he will see some time in this game, which is a little bit of a surprise," Pitino said. "But he’s in much better physical shape than we expected."

Pitino also mentioned that Ware was "officially a Cardinal" because he suffered a minor injury during his second practice. That injury is reportedly a rolled ankle. He was spotted on campus wearing a boot this afternoon.

Ware will serve as the backup to both point guard Peyton Siva and small forward Kyle Kuric. As far as the two guard position is concerned, Pitino said Russ Smith may get the start over Chris Smith on Saturday.

More notes in a bit.
