When the Ole Miss job opened up a few days ago, I srugged my shoulders and didn't concern myself with it. It doesn't strike me as a job HCCS would want. Look at Petrino at Arkansas, and see how incredibly difficult it is to win consistently in the SEC and reach a BCS game. Ole Miss would be a much tougher project, with a much greater chance of failure. Not the HCCS is afraid of a challenge, but Ole Miss doesn't strike me as the type of place where BCS or Bust is a realistic mentality.
Penn State, on the other hand... The Big10 is a conference where a run first defensive minded program can compete year in and year out for conference titles. Penn State is a name brand program, that practically sells itself to recruits. He'd be following an old-school coach who never embraced a pass happy offense (thus, he won't be coming into a program that expects a 70/30 pass/run distribution). It's Penn State. Oh, and IT'S PENN STATE!
This opening, more than any other so far, concerns me. This is a job I could see HCCS taking (if they'll ask him).
The "Charlie Strong is a candidate for X" campaigns just got kicked up a notch.
