Here are some interesting and uninteresting observations via kenpom.com. Make inferences at your own risk:
The best defenses that Vanderbilt has faced this season are Cleveland State (33) and Xavier (23). They lost both games at home. Louisville’s defense is currently ranked (3).
Vanderbilt (22) will be the best offense that Louisville has faced this season. Long Beach State (46) put up 66 points against the Cards, the most of any opponent this season.
Louisville’s three point defense (22) is holding opponents to 25.3%. Vanderbilt (151) is shooting 34.3%.
Vanderbilt (317) is giving up a steal on 13.3% of their offensive possessions. Louisville (35) is forcing steals on 13.1% of their defensive possessions.
To date, Vanderbilt (137) has played a tougher schedule than Louisville (235). Vandy has two losses at home, and two wins at neutral sites. Friday will be their first true road test.
Louisville’s opponents are shooting 57% from the free throw stripe (7). You could chalk this up to the press and fatigue, but the Cards haven’t been playing at break-neck speeds thus far. So, magic.
