I know what the detractors would say: U of L playing in a BCS bowl game would be a farce. Well, this is the farce that college football has foisted upon us. You know what they call the guy who graduates last in his med school class? "Doctor." You know what they call the BCS team from the Big East? A BCS team.

Great point
But, I think the response the BCS committee would have for you is simply revoking the Big East’s bid, not ousting the stupid system they have now and opting for a playoff which is probably what Eric is poking at the most with that statement.
Let’s just hope Louisville is out of the league by the time that happens.

Not if a 7-5 Big East Champ won
Then they’d all STFU and admit (at least in their own minds) that the Big East had lots of parity and must have been pretty good this year.

You forgot the ~.
I don’t remember seeing Barkley or any of the other announcers chiming in after UConn won the NC saying that maybe the BE did actually deserve to have 11 teams in the tourney. Point is, the talking heads don’t eat humble pie; they would just call the bowl victory a fluke, or say the other team self-destructed.
this.
Unfortunately.

I like this line, too
To those who scoff at U of L having a shot at a BCS bowl by virtue of playing in the Big East, I have one response: Your team can apply to join the league tomorrow. They’re taking applications.
I like this version of Crawford; the snarky hometown columnist, obviously wearing Cardinal red glasses and drinking the Big East Kool-aide.

This is true, but it looks like the BCS bowls are about to be toast in a few years anyway. Just more evidence that college football is driven by money as much as any professional sport.
What a fucking shame. ESPN loves to pound into peoples brains that the “Big East is in danger of losing it’s AQ status” when at least at this point, that’s not true. What a crock of shit, if ESPN says it enough times, it’s just going to become true.
I don't much care what anyone thinks or says
I’ve been bored to death with the talking heads at ESPN (and elsewhere) for more than a decade. If we get the Orange Bowl we deserve it by the rules that put us there; and, I’ll celebrate going.
May go broke on T-shirts if we win.
