Awesome

He’s pissed.

Glad I missed the 2nd half. Sounds like I didn’t miss much.

1) Bridge year.
2) Fire Sanford.
3) Improve the OL.
4) ?
5) Profit. BCS Bowl!

Pissed Charlie is my favorite Charlie

I’ve been dying to see this side of him. Almost worth the loss…almost.
Love the intentional timeouts.

Practice is going to suck Monday

but after that performance they deserve it. I love that HSCC showed some emotion, however I would love to see this from a player. One of them at the podium pissed and saying that this effort will not be accepted. It could be happening behind closed doors but it would be nice for the public to see. I know HHCC remembers when Florida lost to Ole Miss and Tebow came to the press and talked about how he would make sure win or lose his team would play their hearts out no matter what and apologized to the fans. We need that leadership.

I’m thinking they were up early today running. Probably still running as a type.

Loss sucked, but I’m glad to se Charlie with so much Passion. Now we will have to see how the team responds, and who is going to step up as the leader.

I wish HCCS and the Hurtt would throw on some pads

and just start throwing around our OL, maybe that would get them to play better

Coach Strong is huge

He walked by us at Card March and I couldn’t believe how big he was. He’s shorter than me but built like a tank. I’m not happy that he was so pissed about the game but it was good to see emotion come from him. Can’t say that about the former, Robocoach.

Watching him list off each home loss over the past two years without missing a beat,

I could tell how badly each one of those burns him. The man absolutely hates to lose, love to see that attitude.

He's missing the ~

I believe he’s quoting what Kragthorpe would have said after this season… kind of like he did about Trent Guy.

Roller Coaster Ride

I knew this year would be like this, but it’s still hard to take. The 2006 season seems so long ago now. But 5 years is nothing when you really think about it. So I’ll get over this and keep being a fan and focus on these young guys learning from every game and getting better for 2012. That will truly be Strong’s first year where it’ll really be on him. The Krag fuck-ups will be gone almost entirely and his guys will be regular starters everywhere. I still see this 2011 team as almost there. But for the OL, we’d be 4-0 and getting poll votes by now. The 2 losses were 100% on the OL and some questionable play calling. Even the 2 big TD plays to Hilton against FIU were surmountable with better OL play and not fumbling deep in FIU territory. Last year we also started off 2-2. Even if we’re 2-3 heading into Big East play, there are winnable games to be had there. We know the OL is capable of playing better. We also know the defense is solid and we have lots of offensive playmakers. I’m not going to let this 2nd very embarrassing loss ruin the entire season for me as a fan.

Agree with your sentiment about being realistic about this year, and not letting this game ruin the season as a fan...................

not sure that the O-line can/will play any better. It is unimaginable that the coaches haven’t watched the film of the first 3 games and worked on specific deficiencies of the O-lines performance. And yesterday was the result. I am fearful that what we are seeing may be the best (shudder) that they have. For example, Hernandez admitted that under Kragthorpe he basically lost his will to play the last two years, had a poor attitude both on the field and in the classroom. He went on to say that under Coach Strong he has a renewed enthusiasm and attitude. But given that he pretty much took 2 years off, this may be the best he has. And if that’s the case, he will not noticeably improve this season. Won’t happen.

I’m sure you have noticed my posts asking anyone who may have some actual experience in playing/coaching offensive linemen to tell me exactly why are they performing so poorly. For example, if you are too weak and too slow, no amount of practice is going to fix that. I have never played an O-line position and only know what I see. So someone who knows about these things please, tell us what the problem is. Then we can determine if it is fixable in the next 6 weeks or not. Again, it is unimaginable to me that the coaches haven’t had this issue on the front burner and this is what we have gotten. That my friend, is frightening.

So all of you ex-offensive linemen out there. Tell us, what specifically do you see that is causing the poor performance of our line. And secondly, given your experience how is it fixable? That’s what I am waiting to hear. Remember what Joe Friday said, “Just the facts ma’am”. That’s what Card fans need. Just the facts. Then we’ll have a much better idea of what to expect from this team and how to make any adjustments called for.

I played TE

but that was a long time ago now. It was in a run-oriented offense and I was more like a slightly more agile and lighter weight Tackle in our schemes. And it was high school, not college. I just remember our coaches stressing that a good OL was like a single entity, not individual players. That takes time and experience playing together to really gel. I am sure that’s part of Louisville’s problem. These guys are all pretty new playing with each other. Throw in Mario’s absence, which moved Kupper from Tackle to Center, and that’s probably a big part of this. And good DC’s scout the weakness and exploit it. That’s why FIU and Marshall both threw 6,7, even 8 guys at our OL on a lot of plays. I suspect you might be right, Carolina… sad as it is to admit, this might be the best we can hope for. In which case, so be it… now it’s on the coaches to stop running plays that are designed for a better OL. Adapt to this reality and devise plays that take the pressure off of opening running holes between the Tackles or on a 3 or 4 second pocket on pass plays. Roll out Teddy or Will by design. That does 2 good things: opens up passing lanes without DL and LB players to throw over and around; gives both QB’s chances to turn good coverage and no passing options into positive yards on scrambles. We have QB’s that can run when needed. Teddy proved he can zip the ball in there. He had a couple of drives yesterday where he was on fire passing it. Defenses will have to respect his arm, which means he can roll out and then tuck it and run when necessary and have the cushion to gain chunks of yards as he gets out of bounds. We need to DESIGN that kind of thing instead of having it happen only when he is forced out of the pocket. And I also think it’s stupid not to run that very quick hitter to Bellamy or whoever more often. It virtually never fails to gain us chunks of yards, and it requires literally no pass protection at all.

My friend, you and I are on the same page here.

If this is the best we’re going to get put of this O-line, then we must design plays to minimize their deficiencies and to play to the strengths of our skill players. I absolutely love our receivers and think that both Stein and Teddy are acceptable QB’s. It seems if we roll out, we can give ourselves more options for success. And, we clearly agree that the quick slant and flat passes are tailor made for for our situation. Takes the O-line out of the equation and gets the ball into the hands of our skill players in the open field. Gotta like that a helluva lot better that trying to run behind (or more likely into) Hernandez and the boys.

This is so obvious to you and me

and lots of other fans…. which begs the question: why the stubborn refusal to deviate from the preferred schemes? Do the coaches believe it’s better to force the issue, even to the point of not scoring and losing close games like we have? Or, and this is the part that scares me about Sanford, do we lack coaches that are good enough to think outside their own box and adapt to reality? We all consider last year a success, rightly so. But remember how we had similar discussions last year? We sometimes questioned the offensive play calling then, too. We have a number of really good skill players at WR and RB. But the play calling often negates their abilities. And I haven’t mentioned it before, but why go away from the hurry-up that led to that nice long drive? It was like Sanford decided once was good enough. WTF?

by CardsRuleBE on Oct 2, 2011 1:37 PM EDT up reply actions

And more to your point,

I realize that HCCS does not have all his players here yet and that this may be a bridge year. And I can accept us not being a very good football team. I cannot accept us being a stupid football team. We can play to our strengths and minimize our weaknesses and if we still lose, then so be it. I can accept that.

Don't have time to read that right now, but I'll offer a quick comment.

Just because a coach doesn’t have talent to play, doesn’t mean that they can’t coach. I think Borberly and Slade will do fine as our players mature.

That said, I am very glad that HCCS is admitting that the coaching sucked and needs improvement as well.

We are who we thought we are and we let us off the hook...........

Look I am glad he showed emotion, but, I understand his frustration. Hell we all do. I don’t know what is going on 2,600 miles from here, but, it seems to me that this team is just really mentally soft. I understand that we lost leaders, but, someone has got to step up…
