ESPN launching "Buzzer-Beater" network

Coolest thing ESPN's done since featuring Card Chronicle.

Press release:

On January 8, ESPN will launch ESPN Buzzer Beater, a new HD network available at launch to Time Warner Cable Sports Tier, Bright House Networks Customers and Verizon FiOS TV Ultimate HD and Extreme HD Customers.  ESPN Buzzer Beater features live cut-ins and highlights from numerous top college basketball games during each Wednesday and Saturday of the college basketball season, plus up-to-the-minute commentary from ESPN analysts and experts, including hosts Anish Shroff, Cindy Brunson and Steve Bunin and analyst Tim McCormick.

Games featured on ESPN Buzzer Beater will include those airing on ESPN’s family of networks, as well as syndicated and locally-produced games from other conferences, capturing the best live action of the day.

For the 2011 season, the ESPN Buzzer Beater programming schedule is as follows:

  • Every Saturday, Noon – 11 p.m. ET, from Jan. 8 - March 5
  • Every Wednesday, 7 – 11 p.m. ET, from Jan. 12 - March 2
  • Thursday, March 10, Noon – 11 p.m. ET
  • Friday, March 11, Noon – 11 p.m. ET
  • I don't think I get this, but whatever, it's a cool idea and cool ideas usually end up becoming popular enough that they're eventually made available to everyone.
