Make the jump if you wish -  I'll preface this with the fact that I know very little about RPI and SOS, so point out any errors you see fit to.  I know you all will anyway.

UK Fan argument - "Play somebody".  Just over halfway through the season and our SOS (avg. of about 41.333 - repeating of course) is already tougher than theirs (avg. of about 48).  Additionally, we already have a better record as of this posting, the Big East is a very dominant league, and we're getting into the meat of that league.  Come March, there will likely be entirely too many Cards fans saying the exact same thing to UK fans IF we win our "must wins", a majority of our "toss ups", and steal a few "a win is a steal" as Mike called them.  For now, our better record will most likely continue after our game tonight, unless I jinx us here.

UK Fan Argument - "63-78".
OK, so you beat the snot out of a team missing 1) Swopshire, 2) Buckles, 3) Kuric was just coming off of an injury if memory serves, and Marra and Justice (not as big a contributor but gets significant PT) were both nowhere near 100%.  TJ should have been a much bigger force in the game but was playing soft and lost both offensively and defensively - especially being out of position and allowing Harellson to have the game of his career - most likely a result of Coach P being outcoached.  Coach P actually appeared to have been severely outcoached in the second half of the game.  A large part of this was possibly due to Buckles going down a day or two prior to the game, and throwing a wrench in Petino's gameplan.
UK Retort - "but we didn't have Kanter either, go cry another cry".  He was a pro and was never going to be declared eligible and I'm not just saying that after the fact.  I never could see how any UK fan would ever have faith that he would play.
UK Fan Argument - "we would win that game 98 of 100 times".  I honestly beg to differ, but they definitely had the better team that day and all things considered, if we played 100 times under the same circumstances (injuries, etc.), I don't think Rick Gets outcoached over 25% of them...

I understand that the RPI isn't a good indicator of where teams are ranked, but it can be an indicator of some other points.  UK is 1-1 vs top 25 RPI; UL is 1-2 - not much worse.  UK is 3-2 vs those in the 26-50 RPI; UL is 1-0 - not really enough to tell.  UK plays nobody else until 101-200 range and are 7-1 against them and the other three are cupcakes, while UL is 2-1 vs the 51-75 group and 10-0 vs all others beyond that.  While I think UL is a little over rated currently, especially giving our injury bug and the fact that most of our games have been at home, our losses haven't been that bad.  Our two easily explainable losses have been from UK (17th at the time(?) ) and Nova (7th at the time). Drexel has a respectable RPI I guess (much better than 'Bamas) and slightly stronger SOS... KY Fans have no leg to stand on now that they lost to 'Bama.

Kentucky's explainable losses have been against Conn and ND (BE powers), NC (Not too Bad), GA (possibly a March bubble team), and 'Bama (attrocious)... It appears to me that the Wildcats may be a little more over-rated than we are even though they handled us at our house... or have just had a few more bad games than we have to this point...

More time will tell, but I don't think our plight is as dire as some (myself included) believe, especially if we get Buckles back sooner rather than later.  This team has a chemistry we've not seen in a while at Louisville.  If we could only have Swop back as well!
