What to watch: 1/10/11

Notre Dame at Marquette (7 p.m./ESPN2)
"But can they do it on the road?" has almost become as much of a Notre Dame tradition as Rudy or Touchdown Jesus.
Bethune-Cookman at North Carolina A&T (7 p.m./ESPNU)
Two of the five undefeated teams left in the MEAC. In conference, you know, not overall.
Stony Brook at Binghamton (7:30 p.m./MSG/ESPN FullCourt)
Binghamton just 4-10 on the year, but still on schedule to best their "we're opting out of the conference tournament" performance of a year ago.
BCS "National Title" Game: Auburn vs. Oregon (8:30 p.m./ESPN)
At the end of the night, just two unbeatens will remain in college football. The winner of this game will be one of them. And the season will be over. If you hadn't heard I am not a fan of college football's postseason.
Alabama A&M at Arkansas-Pine Bluff (9 p.m./ESPNU)
You have to applaud ESPN for having the integrity to not shy away from putting a hoops matchup of this stature up against a championship game being aired on its flagship station.

I think the ESPNU game is to drive viewers to ESPN.
Arkansas-Pine Bluff hasn’t won a game this season.
Tonight's real winners: The Oregon cheerleaders

Good lord.
Do they have any ugly cheerleaders?

He did good at blowing up the stat ESPN showed about him.
I like him for that. But that’s more of an ESPN jinx, though.

Switch over to ESPNU?
Sounds like it’d be an instant classic.

You talking about the Pine-Bluff game?
Or Auburn/Oregon? Because it’s on ESPN.

Eh.
It only sucks for sports. Espn3 and the Cards channel on justin.tv work well.

I'm tired of the stupid ESPN homecourt commercial.
Specifically, the ‘Respect the name on the jersey’ one.
Speaking of the Arkansas Pine Bluff game, did anyone notice how they put their entire crowd on one half of the court, the side which was seen by the TV cameras, to give the impression of a sellout. When ESPN made the mistake of pointing a camera to the other side, there were literally less than 10 people on that half. I had just never heard of such a thing
and Re: college football playoffs, a 16-team is not going to happen. But I say keep the current bowl system and make the BCS bowls the first round of the playoffs. The four winners play a Final Four on the homefields of the two highest rated teams left (rating from end of regular season), then a neutral field national title game. It keeps 98% of the current bowl system intact, only adds one week to the season, still emphasizes the regular season since you’re playing for homefield advantage…any other ridiculous excuses left to squash? Oh, yeah and all of the people lining their pockets with the current system will make even more money.
