We've spent so much time focusing on the fact that he was going to miss/did miss the Kentucky game that him being out for the bulk of Big East play has almost been ignored completely. U of L forward Rakeem Buckles watched the loss with his left hand and forearm bandaged to protect his broken left index finger. Buckles suffered the injury in practice Thursday and said he had "three or four pins" inserted to straighten it out. The 6-foot-8 sophomore, the Cardinals' top rebounder at 7.5 per game, said it didn't feel that bad when it happened. "I thought it was dislocated because the same thing happened to Bullet (Elisha Justice) a few weeks ago," he said. "So I was like, ‘All right, they're just going to pop it back in place.' " Instead he had surgery Thursday and will miss up to six weeks, which could mean up to a dozen Big East Conference games. "It's horrible timing," Buckles said. "I just wish I could have at least played that game. It was tough watching us lose. I know I could go out there and help."
