Chane Behanan commits to Louisville

Bowling Green's Chane Behanan, the top-rates high school prospect in the state of Kentucky, has committed to Louisville.

Demling:

The 6-foot-8 Behanan is ranked No. 23 nationally in the Class of 2011 by Rivals.com and No. 29 by Scout.com. He’s a prime contender to be named a McDonald’s All-American.

A transfer from Cincinnati Aiken prior to his junior season, Behanan was named first-team All-State for the Purples after he averaged 21.1 points and 12.3 rebounds a game.

...

Behanan had a sensational spring on the AAU circuit, including being named MVP of the prestigious National Basketball Players Association Top-100 camp.

U of L became a major player in the process late in the spring along with Kentucky, North Carolina and Texas along with dozens of other programs. He was also being courted early on by West Virginia, Ohio State and Cincinnati.

Rejoice.

Sweet

Kid has solid skills and size. He’s a perfect fit for the Big East. We desperately need a 4 with some meat on his bones.

6'8" Power Forward?

Does this mean that we might not be getting Quincy Miller? Seems to me that this may be a consolation prize… I sure hope not

Chane is no consolation prize; in fact, he may be another reason why Miller comes to UofL.

Just wait

The Big Blue Nation sponsered rants of “overrated, we didn’t want him, he sucks” start in 5…4…3…2…

actually, I am glad to see you guys get the kid......he is a great player and should make you guys

one serious team to deal with next year, especially if the others follow. I think you guys need to get the very best talent there is out there. You guys not having a good team does not help us in the slightest. I want to beat you guys when you are at your peak, not when you are scraping the bottom of the barrell. It is great for both programs. Hope you get the others too.

That's how I felt

after Sutton destroyed the UK program and took it from a premier program to a disgrace to the sport. Of course, UK fell a lot lower than Louisville ever has after that debacle, so it’s a bit like apples and oranges. But hey, UK was able to return at least somewhat to previous glory, but the smear to the program’s name will never really be erased. So really, this isn’t at all like that situation for Louisville, since Louisville’s b-ball program has never had someone running it who broke rules and laws and gave it the death penalty for a few years. But yeah, I guess you could wish for Louisville to get better talent so the close games UK and UofL usually play will be blowouts almost annually for the Red & Black. If that’s what you really meant, I’m with you.

I agree. And I hope

that Indiana can make a solid turnaround and get back in the top 25. I also wish that we’d have a permanent series with them. Seems like the right thing to do.

well, close enough....lol....

it isnt good for either team to struggle…….under any circumstances.

I wanted to share this little gem

from the C-J article for those CC readers who are too smart to get into those message threads.

I think this fully encapsulates the mindset of UK fans:

“Well Chane you snooze you lose. You waited a little too long or you could have been a Cat. Cards will probably also get Miller. He too waited too long. Of course Pitino hiring a former agent to woo Miller is rumored to have peeked the NCAAs interest. We’ll see if this shifty move works to the Card’s benefit. Hiring Teague’s coach had no bearing so who knows? UL’s “leftovers” class should be one of their best."

by tmjoel01 on Sep 7, 2010 5:00 PM EDT up reply actions

I would bet a billion dollars

that if you called him out on his use of “peeked the NCAAs interest” he would come back with “whatever, grammar cop, peaked.”

And there would be much laughter.

Huge Get for the 2011 Cards.

This guy has a Big East Ready body and will be a heck of a matchup problem for a lot of teams.

And no matter what any UK fan might say, locking down local talent is always a priority. Remember, UK offered Chane and tried to hard sell him; he said he wanted to wait (to visit us); and now fresh off that visit, he’s committed.

nice addition

He seems a little soft for a 6’8 guy in high school…. no dunks in his highlight reel? But why are so many cats fans on OUR site?

They feel a need to ...

look after what they like to affectionately call “little brother” when in fact they know we’ll be the big brother that they will try anything to emulate…

Not sure why, we don’t care

The vid starts and ends with dunks

although the one at the end is a repeat of one of the three at the start…

Looks like the highlight reel is from only one game also

Which contains more highlights than my entire organized basketball career.

I'll take "leftovers" + Pitino's coaching

Over The nation’s top class + Calipari’s coaching

Beginning in 2011-2012, this rivalry could enter uncharted territory.

by Mike Rutherford on Sep 7, 2010 8:59 PM EDT reply actions

IMHO, we're already in uncharted territory.

Given the insanity of last year’s game, the offseason recruiting dustups, and the ongoing mutual Cal-Pitino dislike, every game in this rivalry is now just at a different level.

I hope they confiscate all sharp objects from UK fans before this year’s basketball game.

by cardsinindy2010 on Sep 7, 2010 9:15 PM EDT up reply actions

And I'll take the "leftovers" with Pitino's coaching too.

Anytime. No comparison between Rick and Cal on the sidelines.

by cardsinindy2010 on Sep 7, 2010 9:16 PM EDT up reply actions

With all of these recruits being ranked so high, you cant really call them "leftovers" can you?

Yeah there are going to be some fools waving that flag, but all of these kids are top notch players. Just different kids for different systems is all.

And yes 2011-2012 could take us above and beyond the heralded Duke-UNC status for ESPN….

If these commitments are honored, that's great

But let’s not start the party just yet. For those of you who read UK blogs and spend time around UK fans, you know how overhyped this crap gets sometimes. Recruits don’t make a team good in September, and they never have, so let’s not act like them and start arrogantly dismissing other teams just because the guys we’ll have in two years—who by the way are packaged so that we only see their dunks and layups on mixtapes—are ranked higher on an arbitrary list.

Talent is great, I love having what experts judge to be better players, but we need guys with the right attitude who are willing to buy into Pitino’s system. Yes, I feel 75 years old saying that. Yes, it’s a cliche. But it’s still f’ing true. Garcia and Dean weren’t top 40 guys, but I would take 10 guys with their attitudes again before I take another DC or E5 (I love you Earl, but sorry). Obviously some will disagree on this point.

In summation, don’t act like a typical KSR UK fan when we get recruits. It is not the whole battle, it is part of the battle.

+1

But you have to admit, it’s still pretty freakin’ exciting.

Agreed on the attitude part, especially with CRP in charge.

That 04-05 team was amazing. I don’t know if I’ll ever see a Louisville team that got more out of their abilities than that one.
