Former Card Covington shot and killed
Truly awful news to report this morning as former Cardinal Daniel Covington was shot and killed early Thursday morning downtown.
Covington, a graduate of Lexington Tates Creek, came to U of L as a walk-on defensive back before eventually earning a scholarship. A part-time starter at safety, he ranked second on the team in tackles in 2008 with 66. He graduated from U of L in 2009.

Thoughts and prayers go out to Covington's family and close friends.
UPDATE: C-J confirms

Sad to see this happen, lots of RIP tweets from U of L players
Seems like he couldn’t have been too bad a guy. Second leading tackler from the safety position! Regardless of what that says about the state of our defense the last few years, at least he got a little spotlight while he was here.

From the Herald-Leader:
The driver of the car took out a gun and fired off a single shot, which appears to have gone through his passenger’s hand and into his assailant’s chest, Wilkerson said. The assailant then stumbled across the street, where police found him a short time later, Wilkerson said.
How is it that only one shot was fired, but Covington had two wounds? I’m no detective, but something doesn’t quite add up according to the Herald’s account. Not trying to create controversy on such a sad occasion, just skeptical about what supposedly took place.

Howes Covington
As an outsider looking in, one who has grown up in this area and lived in the multicultural city of Houston, where Caucasians are the minority and St. Louis a more diverse city than Louisville. I am well aware of the cultural differences in PRP, Uof L Baseball Player White Teammates and Tates Creek Uof L Football Player many Black teammates, and Louisville a city that has sold-out to the University, and a University with little to no moral or ethical values, (The Pitino incident) I am not surprised that there will be a huge cover up in this case and will never know the truth. Much like that of the Pitino trial.
The university has a tremendous amount to be proud of . LOL a University President that does not have the intestinal fortitude to stand up to Jurich or Pitino to do the right thing.
This University is a national laughing stock. It is sad that anyone has lost their life before they had a chance to live, but this is a case of an ignorant Redneck mouthing off to insight a reaction and hiding behind a gun.
