Dominique Brown done at quarterback?
C.L. Brown notes this morning that Dominique Brown was wearing a white jersey - not the yellow dud customarily sported by quarterbacks - during today's practice, a fact which has spurred talk that Brown has made/is making a move to wide receiver.
Given Adam Froman's less-than-stellar start to the season, I have to admit I'm a bit disappointed that we're probably not going to see Brown under center, but it's not like the receiving corps isn't in desperate need of a pick-me-up as well. Not having a deep threat was expected, but nobody thought these guys would have already dropped a combined seven passes after two weeks of play.
Brown's future was almost certainly going to reside in a position other than quarterback anyway, so I suppose getting a jump start on that transition can be viewed as a positive. Here's hoping he hits the ground running, because I said before the season and still say now that this team's best shot at winning six or seven games includes having Brown on the field.

How awesome is it
that he can keep switching positions like this though? Great player all around. Great recruit for Strong. Can’t wait to find out where we get the most production out of him.

its great but whats good with the other receivers on the team that I have not seen on the field, I feel that reports are letting coach off easy because coach talked up his receiving corp during camp I remember always hearing Jarret Davis name or Kai Dominguez name during camp are they not ready are they hurt? I say this is div 1 football if the younger players work hard play them, Note Kai came out of camp with the best stats. I would also give Brown a shot at QB
Kinda sad to hear this.
I know that he probably wasn’t going to see much time at QB anyway, but I also know that one of the reasons he came here was that Charlie promised to give him a shot at QB. Moving him to WR anyway isn’t exactly a great talking point for future recruits.
On the other hand, Denard Robinson played WR last season. I’m not saying that this is the same type of situation. Just saying that I expect Brown to win the Heisman at QB next year.

Bush, Micheal
We need as many playmakers on the field as possible. Someone on ITV mentioned the best way to get him into the wildcard is to already have him on the field. Get our best players on the field however we can. Since froman is apparently in our top 11 on O, and we desperatly need more WR’s, this is our best bet IMO.
He was going to need a lot of coaching up to be the primary QB for us
From warm-ups last week, it looks like His delivery is really poor, he short arms the ball and isn’t fluid, at least on short/medium throws.
He’s a fantastic athlete, he needs to be on the field now. We can use him as a gimmick QB/WR, a la Cobb, and give teams another look to worry about. I think this is essential to our offense of the future, players who can play a variety of positions give the defense more looks than they can possibly handle and will hopefully take some of the focus off of our more average players, like Froman.
Just to clairfy...
I have no qualms with having him at receiver. I think he’ll flourish there. I just worry that he won’t take it well. Of course, it’s not like he has an option, because nobody else was even going to give him this long to prove himself at QB.
FWIW, he won the Heisman in my NCAA 11 dynasty in his junior year at WR. He led the team in receptions and rushing with over 1,000 in each area. Again, not saying it’s the same thing. Just saying that i expect him to have over 2,000 yards from scrimmage in 2012.
NCAA 11 hates me.
I used him as a HB, and he had a season with 2918 rushing yards to go with 29 TDs and he DIDN’T win the Heisman. Almost 1000 yards than the next best.
But really, I just want to see him on the field. His speed and athleticism can only help us.

How can you possibly see Brown as a starting QB right now?
Please explain to me why anybody would think Brown is a better option than Froman. Would you rather have an average senior quarterback with good leadership qualities or a completely unproven freshman with a broken throwing motion lead our offense? Just because Brown is athletic and can run fast doesn’t make him a good QB. Being a quarterback requires throwing the ball too, ya know. If Brown was going to be the QB next year, maybe. But we’re most likely going to use Smith next year, so why do something so silly? You have to keep Froman in there, as there is no other option.
you said it yourself
the QB has to be able to throw. Froman I would say is very lacking in that department. VERY.
Yes, he is lacking...
But did you see Brown in open practice? I was not impressed at all. Froman has a good enough arm to play in college. He’s no Brohm or Cantwell (yes, I am fully aware of all the other great QBs Louisville has had). Froman is definitely our best option right now.

How do we know
that Brown couldn’t do a decent job at QB? And putting it nicely, for the sausage king of Louisville, he is doing just decent as well. Does anyone really think that Brown is less talented at QB than EKU’s Pryor? He did all he wanted to, albeit, our less than stellar defense…

Here's how I know Brown wouldn't do better than FroShow.
Because Charlie Strong is head coach. Are you saying he made a mistake? I sure hope not, for your sake. Have you ever heard of Chuck Norris’ roundhouse kick? Charlie Strongs glare is 68.365 times more powerful.

whoa dude
are you on the rag or something? Nowhere in my post does it say Charlie Strong should have started or played D.Brown more than “FroShow.” All I was saying is that I don’t understand all the comments towards Brown not being a good candidate for QB. Just as you haven’t been impressed with Dominique in practice, I haven’t really been impressed with our Senior QB…

I have to agree with Redbirds on this one. Find a highlight video of Domonique brown where he is passing the ball (if you can find one) and look at his throwing mechanics. Then pay attention to the offense he ran in high school. He threw the ball maybe 6-8 times a game in high school. He was pretty much a running back (albeit a very good one). And its not so much as he isnt a good candidate for qb, its just that he needs to be on the field, and he is not the best qb on the roster, and probably wont be next year either. I am just very excited to see the guy on the field. Every other qb turned into a different postion has been dominant for us (Micheal bush and Kerry Rhodes).

now that,
I can agree with. I love his athleticism. It can only help our team. My overall point was why not try him at QB. I never said he would be better or worse than anyone. If he gets 10-12 snaps a game or more, then it can only help our team. I mean we dont have an outstanding receiving core as it is, so why is it necessary to have a QB that predominantly throws? But I support anywhere on the field he may end up, in Charlie Strong We Trust.

I respect your opinion, and mostly agree.
Do I want to see him on the field somewhere? Yes. Do I want to see him start? Most definitely not. Would I like to see him take a few snaps in a row here and there to mix it up? Yes. I wanna see him out there, just not in the starting position at quarterback.

I have been wanting to see a set
where all the QBs are on the field at once. This makes this possible! Burke under center, Froman in a slot or backfield position, Stein in a slot or backfield position and now Dom Brown split out wide. Just don’t all get hurt.
You jest but didn't Stein line up in the slot once last season?
Oh, Krags, you wiley sack of surprise, you.
by UL is my hot hot sex on Sep 15, 2010 2:43 PM EDT via mobile up reply actions
Yes.
Yes he did. On a play that Froman was behind center on. God Krags was stupid.
by CardinalDude on Sep 15, 2010 3:26 PM EDT up reply actions
Not just that.
I’m almost positive there was a play with all three on the field at once. Not 100%, but I seem to remember it.
it happened
and thus I mentioned it but with 4 ‘QBs.’
The worst part was the collective nonchalant reaction
“Is that Stein in the slot?”
“Yep”
“…”

RECEIVERS?
I been reading a lot, well lets say before & after game post about the receivers corp. not doing there jobs. but I also remember the Coach (Strong) during summer talking up his young receivers like Jarret Davis & Kai Dominguez we have seen Davis on the field but we never see the ball go his way. & whats up with Kai D? is he hurt I feel we need to get the young guys more chances because we will get into conference play & they will have no experience or is Coach banking on what we seen? I see a play maker in Kai but you can’t make plays from the side lines…
When I watched Kai at practice,
I saw that he wasn’t ready. He didn’t know his routes, wasn’t giving it 100%… heck, he wasn’t even running 60%. He just looked un-ready. Now, a lot can change from open practice to now, and I hope it has. We really need playmakers out there.
by UofL Redbirds on Sep 16, 2010 1:00 PM EDT up reply actions
note knowing = 60%
I got to speak with a few of the cards players & they all have said this kid Kai is the truth, now when speaking with Kai I question him on how it was going he said he was having a problem with playbook & that when running plays he would slow down because he was over thinking. he also said that he was catching everything now I am not a coach but I would make sure that my best hands learn the plays after they are young & are away I am sure this is all a bit confusing at first. but the talk is that he has been taking snaps with the 1’s this week maybe its time to through him to the fire lets nit wait till big east play comes around
That’s good to know. I hope to see him out there soon. Good post.
