well as for eric bledsoe

the landlord cant seem to make up her mind who paid her.. i know in louisville when a chick has a story that keeps changing(sypher) then she is found to be untrustworthy .. and rightfully so… no as far as the tmz thing.. who knows.. espn, cbs and other major sports media outlets haven’t reported these rumors because as of now they are just rumors

From what i’ve read she has said the coach paid her. The article i read last quoted the relative or whoever claiming that he had made payments and that if the coach had given her money it had come from the mother or the relative. That was about a week ago and i’m not sure if anything new has come out, but that’s not exactly the landlord changing her story.

The landlady maintained that she had received money from the coach.

Try again.

The landlord said she was paid in cash by the coach. The coached denied this. Then a family member, about a month later, claimed that he really paid the money, but he gave it to the coach to give to the landlord. So the family’s story corroborates the landlord’s story, but fails to account for why there were multiple cash payments, and doesn’t account for the coach’s denial that he ever paid cash. Credibiity is a problem, but not for the landlord.

by 83fan on Jul 21, 2010 5:13 PM EDT up reply actions

ok let me clear it up

the ny times reported that the landlady said the coach paid her the rent THEN the landlady came out and said while the coach made 3 deliveries of the money to her she always thought that it was from the family and family friend who had been helping the poverty stricken bledsoe family… now this leads me to a few questions.. first if the landlady was under the assumption that the money was from family and friends then why and how did the ny times get ahold of it?…was someone digging for dirt hoping to get something? or was it a landlord trying to get her 15 minutes but then threw in a well maybe the coach didn’t actually pay her from his pocket to cover her ass legally? and finally if she has said that no receipts were wrote in the coaches name then how will it hurt uk in any way legally?… now i would ask that even if the hs coach is guilty and he did float bledsoe’s rent 3 times, then how on gods green earth does calipari get thrown into that?… but im to tired to hear conspiracy theories and www bs

Some more questions...

Why would the family give the money to the coach and not directly to the landlady? Why would they put the coach in such a compromising position? Why would he accept it, knowing that delivering cash to pay the kid’s rent would create the appearance of impropriety?

Who is the family friend? Why didn’t he act as the courier? Could it be that he needed to remain anonymous because of ties to the program? If so, whose program?

Why would the landlady change her story? Could it be that the coach delivered some more money (from the family, of course) along with a message that he needed his ass covered they wanted to make sure she set the story straight?

Oh, and to answer your question: if the kid received improper gifts in high school, he’s probably forfeited his amateur status and would be ineligible anywhere. It wouldn’t besmirch Calipari unless of course he knew about it (or the “friend” had ties to Cal), but it would still mean Bledsoe was ineligible.

by rickmbari on Jul 21, 2010 9:02 PM EDT up reply actions

and all your questions are valid also...

so my point is with all these unanswered question why would the ny times run a story that they dont have all the facts about and i know that if found true then bledsoe would have been ineligible but i think that since the coach was the whole reason bledsoe transfered then it is not to far off to think he was just trying to help out but then again he could have been giving bledsoe money, who knows, but if you are a respected news outlet like the ny times then make sure you have all your facts and someone is actually found guilty before you name them in a story for doing something you are assuming

I don’t know if anyone is claiming Calipari’s to blame, since I don’t even think he was at UK yet when the payments occurred. However it fits a trend with him and also hadn’t a some teams decided to pass on Bledsoe because of some eligibility issues (aka funny stuff)?

some teams pass but teams like

bama, baylor, cincy, duke, florida, memphis , mississippi, rutgers, and uab all recruited him.. his gpa was a 1.9 at the end of his jr year and after taking online courses and night classes during his sr year he was able to be eligible the few teams that did pass, passed because of his low gpa after jr season… but again who knows.. hs and college sports are so corrupt nowadays who knows what is happening

That’s what I mean though. His gpa jumped to make him eligible. I just meant overall funny stuff surrounding Bledsoe not just the rent thing.

yea the gpa jump is

a little suspicions but hopefully for uk he actually did the online courses and night classes and raised it up and didn’t receive any money from his hs coach… plus the ncaa did 2 reviews on him because of his gpa jump but the ncaa clearing someone really means nothing if they say a college can play a guy then punish them for it

I wish there was a sarcasm tag.

It’s so hard to tell on the Interwebz.

I don’t think there’s anything behind the Blessoe thing that you wouldn’t find in a lot of other students around the country, so I doubt anything will come of that. The improper benefits to the other players would be worse, but I haven’t heard anything about it.

And please, in the future, I think we would all appreciate it if you would proofread before you post. Not trying to be a bitch, but posts like this are just so hard to follow.

Really Mike, is this your first time on the Internets or something? I get sick of reading your poorly written posts. At least run a spell check.

Who were you talking to? I'm confused.

And as an aside, spelling errors are one thing. Posts like this couldn’t be auto-corrected with a supercomputer and Bill Gates on special assignment.

The guy probably isn’t stupid, so it just makes it that much more frustrating when the posts are hard to follow. Just because it’s common on other parts of the Interent doesn’t mean that it gets a pass. Can’t we at least try to do better here?

Nevermind, it was a bad joke. Your comment was a response to Mike instead of being a new post. I knew your post was directed towards the OP.

Guys

Give me a break please,, this is my first time on a blogspot, im a teen I use nothing but abberviations and try and mmake words short and simple as I can but please Im new here I am a great writer i’m an up comming Journalist and want to make it to broadcast TV on ESPN or internet news or sports magazines, you can check out some of my serious work at pvtitansbball.com under “news” and “PV POST”

by Austin Montgomery on Jul 21, 2010 11:07 PM EDT up reply actions

I don't think this makes it better, honestly.

If you’re trying to be a journalist, you should be practicing proper writing anywhere you comment. Again, I’m not trying to be a bitch, now I’m honestly trying to help you. Writing like this causes bad habits not just in the way you type, but even the way you start to think. You become accustomed to slang, shorthand, and Internet vernacular to the point that it works its way into your writing, and honestly, nobody wants to read that; it’s amateurish.

It’s nothing personal; I had the same problem when I wrote for the high school paper. You have to try to write for a 6th grade comprehension level but an adult sophistication level; it’s a bit of a delicate balance. Just check out the idiot that fan blogs for Louisville on the C-J; he uses words that he doesn’t even understand to try to sound smart.

by CARD_G6 on Jul 22, 2010 1:21 AM EDT up reply actions

And here's a perfect example of overusing semicolons.

Again, a delicate balance, and lots of proofreading.

by CARD_G6 on Jul 22, 2010 1:23 AM EDT up reply actions

Well thanks

bbut you know like I said im sorry I figured people would have the common sence to know what word I abbreviated, but its cool.. oh really you wrote for your high school, I love journalism, the thing is is when I wrote my articles I would send it to the coach for proof ready, Ive only been in Journalism one year and I am already the premier sports writer, I should get into editing next year.

by Austin Montgomery on Jul 22, 2010 2:08 AM EDT up reply actions

Dude, you seriously need an editor

You misspell or misuse about every tenth word. And it’s not a matter of being able to figure out what you meant to say, it’s the annoyance of having to mentally correct everything you write so it makes sense. Don’t blame the readers for being annoyed with your poor writing, use their criticism as a tool to improve your writing.

by rickmbari on Jul 22, 2010 9:56 AM EDT up reply actions

At least you're on a UofL blog

If you stay on a UK blog, editing won’t be your strong point.

We’re also going to clown each other… take our sarcasm and calling your writing out as helpful hints to make you better.

Oh yeah… you’re on a UofL blog. While some UK fans might disagree, most of us don’t want to talk about big sister down the road.

OK, dude. I've checked your stuff out.

I had to go find this “serious work” you did for your school paper (because I have soooo much time on my hands). I see your name on it, but I almost don’t believe that this colorful bit of writing came from you. There are barely any misspellings, grammatical errors, and I could not find any text-speak. BUT, I’ll chalk it up to good editing and give you the benefit of the doubt.

I was once new to this “blogspot” as well, and I have been called out on the content and grammar of my posts before, too. If you can learn from the criticism without taking it personally, you will be fine.

So, to add to the all the “lessons” that have been hurled at you in this post, here are a few of my own. Humilty – Referring to yourself as a “great writer,” even if you think you are, will only cause people to think you are arrogant. Let your work and your actions speak for themselves. Excellence – Don’t be lazy with your writing, even here. First, you are using your real name in these posts, so everything you post here becomes a permanent record of your writing work. Second, as CARD_G6 said, proofread, spell-check, and edit yourself every time you write to avoid developing bad habits.

I hope you do make it to ESPN (The Ocho?) someday, because that would make this thread all the more epic.

If you really want to be a writer

you should be practicing every chance you get. Malcolm Gladwell wrote about the real experts who get something like 10,000 hours of work in their field before they become outliers (Bill Gates/Paul Allen) Use this site as more hours of practice instead of “taking time off.” We always want to see good writing, that’s what we come to this site for. If we wanted abbreviations we’d go to Twitter.
