DaMarcus Smith makes Elite 11 Camp roster
The good news keeps rolling in for the U of L football program.
Louisville commit and Seneca High School senior-to-be DaMarcus Smith will be one of the 12 class of 2011 players invited to the Elite 11 quarterback camp in Southern California when the official roster of attendees is announced next week.
The prestigious four-day event takes place each year in late July and helps prepare the best high school quarterbacks in the country for the challenges that lie ahead in big-time college football. Notable players who have participated in the camp include: Carson Palmer, Matt Leinart, Troy Smith, Jason White, Tim Tebow, Drew Brees, Jay Cutler, Ben Roethlisberger, Aaron Rodgers, JaMarcus Russell, Trent Edwards, Matt Schaub, Matthew Stafford and Mark Sanchez
The news is especially impressive when taking into consideration that Smith missed all of last season with a knee injury and that his first real action since rehab came at the Elite 11 Regional Camp in Tuscaloosa, Ala. earlier this month.
"It felt pretty good," Smith told the Courier-Journal after the camp. "I still felt that competitive edge and knew I had to represent my city and my school. I think I impressed people when I was out there."
Congratulations to DaMarcus.

I just want to point something out.
This article has fewer comments than the article about 39 players getting above a 3.0 this semester. I’m not saying this is a bad thing at all; quite to the contrary. Does anyone else feel like this is something that makes Louisville fans unique? We are talking more about how well our athletes are doing in the classroom than we are about our first ever Elite 11 QB commit (who on top of that is from right here in Louisville). How many other fans of BCS schools would react that way I wonder.

No Elite 11s, but...
We did have Brian Brohm… did you know Woodson was an Elite 11 QB in 2002?
While being named an Elite 11 QB is impressive, it’s happened before for the state, and UofL was used to getting decent QBs.
Now a record 39 players above a 3.0? That hasn’t happened before, and academics is something that has kept Louisville out of Big Ten or other high-profile conference expansions. The academics is something different as far as school perception for us, while people know UofL can get and produce high-profile QBs.
Any chance he early enrolls?
