Strong's Women's Clinic

On Saturday the 19th, Coach Strong hosted a "Strong Women Love Football" clinic at the B&W Club.  My Mom and I attended not really knowing what to expect, but we wanted to be involved.  It was well worth our time, money and sweat!

All of the coaches got up and addressed the crowd of at least 250 women.  Several players were there: Vic Anderson, Douglas Beaumont (his mom was there too!), Justin Burke (and his mom), Adam Froman, Rodney Gnat and Troy Pascley.  There was a players' panel where we could ask questions followed by a wives' panel led by Victoria Strong.  The two QBs taught us the four snap counts.  I will never complain about our guys and an off sides call again... these counts are insane!  We learned the "football stance".  Then, after lunch and a tour of the complex, we went out onto the field and ran drills.  The coaches were not shy about getting in your face if you messed up either!  Coach Carter gave me crap about having on make-up.

My only gripe: no media coverage.  This should have definitely been on the news, in the paper, something.  I've never had so much fun learning something... ever!

I STRONGly encourage all Cardinal Women to go to this next year.  It can only get better as time goes on.  And for those who are skeptical about getting out on the field, if you didn't want to participate, you did not have to do so.

To say that I am excited about the upcoming football season is an understatement!  The entire coaching staff is positive and ready to go.  They reinforced the kickoff date several times and all of them are aware of how big of a game it is.   I cannot wait to see the difference on the field from last season to this season.  You can already feel it in the air.

You deserved it! Shouldn’t have had make up on!

jk

Sounds like it was a great experience. I wish I could make it up for the fantasy camp they’re planning for us guys.

I don't know I just remember Strong mentioning it in an interview about the Women's clinic

From uoflsports.com

“First of all, no men are allowed in the clinic,” said Strong. “I want the women to come and enjoy themselves, but we will also make them work. I’ve done this clinic for years at Florida, and everyone has truly had a great time.”

The cost of the clinic is $50.00 and includes a T-shirt and lunch will also be provided.

Awesome !

And yes, what a disservice the local media does to the hometown team.

Awesome doesn't even begin to cover it!

I’d read on a message board where Coach ran this clinic at Florida and all of “Charlie’s Angels” in Florida loved it, so I figured that Mom and I had nothing to lose.

$50 which includes lunch and a T-Shirt… the shirt is fabulous. I will definitely wear mine with pride. It’s a black shirt with a white Cardinal and hot pink letters, “Strong Women Love Football”. And, yes, girls only. Coach made a big deal about how some guy called the office a week prior and wanted to participate.

I wore makeup because no where on the registration form did it say that I was going to be heckled! :D Lesson learned! It was all in good fun.

My guess is that the local media WAS contacted and they chose not to cover the event. I think Coach has too much passion to not get the word out. I really can’t see it being a “no media” event. Especially when everyone was having such a great time. Louisville will always take a back seat in this city and that drives me nuts.

Oh, and Candace Bingham was at the clinic too. She had no trouble with the drills. No surprise there.

Two other interesting pieces of info that I forgot to mention:
1) The weight room in the Howard Schnellenberger Complex was previously painted eggshell prior to this coaching staff. Now, it is mainly white with red and black. You can tell it is a UofL room. Eggshell? How drab and dreary is that? One wall is windows allowing a ton of natural light, but still. They did not say just how long the room had been painted that color, but leads to to question, doesn’t it?

Of note, there are several printed out signs that “Louisville is picked to finish LAST in the Big East.” I was ready to go!

2) Coach was texting off and on the whole day. After I mentioned yesterday about Demar Dorsey to Mom, she made some comment about him texting while she was waiting to get her autograph. It almost sounds as if the man can host a clinic AND snag recruits at the same time.

I’m not kidding, my crush on him grows daily.

Mom thinks Pitino should host a women’s clinic.

I think it would be a good PR move and would be definitely informative. It wouldn’t have to be as long, or we wouldn’t have to run drills. But, I guarantee there would be just as many takers.

My read on Pitino is that he's not really into big group clinics

He seems like he’s a bit more into individual instruction, if you know what I mean.

LOL

I was being good and not posting anything negative or anything with any innuendos. But, trust me, when my Mom mentioned a Pitino clinic, that’s all I could think about!

this is true.

if it didnt make me vomit a little in my mouth, i would think of becoming a UK fan. Maybe I will just switch to Maryland, but the ACC does too.
