Nike Connection

I know the sleezebag down the road is cheating, and I think everyone else on this site knows he's cheating.  Only Kentucky fans would think it's their God-given right to sign every McDonald's All-American they go after.  But how?  Here's one scenario on how he's going to get Teague.

Cals good buddy is LeBron, right?  LeBron is a Nike player.  Marquis Teague has a brother in the League.  Cal asks him to go to Nike and get a shoe contract for Teague, who then passes the money back to Marquis.  He's getting paid by a shoe company, but the NCAA can't pin anything on him because it's really his brother who's giving him the dough.  And it all comes from Cal!  UK signs Teague, UL gets zip.  This 2011 class will be just like the 2010 class - one good player, and scrambling to fill out the roster with decent players.  Meanwhile Cal gets 4 - 5 McDonalds All-Americans again.

Sound like a conspiracy-theory type story?  I think there's more truth to it than you might believe.

Not to mention

World Wide Wes is finally officially becoming an Sports Agent and his first big client is going to be John Wall. I don’t think anyone will be surprised if he also signs Lebron and choreographs the union of Wall, Lebron, and possbily Bosh or Wade to all end up in the same city – Brooklyn.

As Slimy as Cal is Worldwide Wes is even slicker. The guy has been moving in and out of basketball circles for 30 years and for the most part has done whatever and connected whomever he wanted to. For some reason Cal was his coach of choice for the past decade and Wes delivered the goods, basically every time. (Dejaun Wagner, D.Rose, Tyreke Evans, John Wall, and oh year if you remember Cal had Dwight Howard committed to Memphis before he jumped)

Without a powerbroker like WWW on his bench in the coming years we could possibly a precipitous declione in Cal’s momentum.

This might ruffle some feathers...

I’m no fan of WWW or Calipari, and I think that what they do is bad for college basketball. But let’s not forget that Wes was big with the Louisville program back in the 80s. He was big friends with several top players prior to college, including Milt Wagner and Billy Thompson. He moved on to Cal in the early 90s because he got pissed at Crum for (ironically) not graduating players.

Granted, he didn’t have the power back then that he does now, but that doesn’t mean we’re completely clean. It’s been rumored that he really wanted to latch onto Pitino back in the 90s but Pitino pushed him away, so I guess we can at least be thankful for that.

Dwight Howard said he would have gone to NC if he would have gone to college
