A Kentucky basketball fan talks recruiting
Wednesday, April 14, 4:17 p.m.
KENTUCKY FAN: Brandon Knight.
PERSON: Excuse me?
KF: BRANDON. KNIGHT. What's up, Ricky P.???
P: I'm still not really sure what you're talking about.
KF: Kentucky basketball is back, baby.
P: Oh, OK, we're talking about basketball. And yeah, Knight, I saw a headline about him on ESPN.com. He must be pretty good. I can see why you're excited. You a UK fan?
KF: I was on UConn's Rivals.com site, and they was sayin' how they don't want one-and-done guys who would consider playing for a guy like Calipari anyway.
P: Well, I can see how a person might think that, especially considering how the teams that made it to this year's Final F--
KF: THE ENTIRE NATION IS QUIVERING!!!!
P: What?
KF: MICHAEL GILCHRIST!!!
P: This conversation is sort of confus--
KF: Can you fuckin' believe Pat Forde?
P: The writer for ESPN? What's wrong with him?
KF: Hates Kentucky.
P: Hates Kentucky?
KF: Hates Kentucky. Don't even try to hide it. He told a couple of my cousins at a dinner party. Said he hates Kentucky
P: I doubt a national sportswriter would take out a personal vendetta against a collegiate program, and if he did, I doubt even more that he would tell people about it.
KF: Truth be told, most of 'em hate Kentucky. All they do is write about how Cal recruits ones-and-dones and had two Final Fours vacated.
P: Aren't both of those things true though?
KF: You don't see nobody writin' about how Cal wasn't named in either of them suits.
P: I don't think they were technically lawsuits, b--
KF: Or how all them boys is all finishing up their semester's worth of school work.
P: Oh, really? Well that's pretty cool. Good for them.
KF: Yep. John Wall had a 4.0.
P: Seriously? Because one of my friends from college emailed me like 75 of his Facebook status updates, and they didn't really read like someone who could mainta---
KF: I ain't really care for Orton all that much, but he's finishing up the semester from all the way out in California...FROM CALIFORNIA!
P: I don't understand how that's possible.
KF: Correspondence.
P: Correspondence?
KF: You know what that mean?
P: Yeah, I know what the word correspondence means, but I don't understand how one could complete a semester at the University of Kentucky from the state of California via "correspondence."
KF: I actually went up there to NKU for school.
P: OK.
KF: You know what it means when all these people hate you though?
P: That you have a really unlikeable head coach, a really unlikeable fan base and some really unlikeable players?
KF: It means you're back. And believe you me, Kentucky basketball is back, boy.
P: You still haven't been to a Final Four post-Clinton administration.
KF: KENTUCKY. IS. BACK. Everybody hates it and I LOVE it.
P: You had two first team All-Americans and five guys who are probably going to be taken in the first round of the NBA Draft, and you still lost to a team that finished fourth in the Big East and had zero McDonald's All-Americans.
KF: Yeah, but no one expected that team to be as good as they was. They brought Kentucky back. Kentucky is back.
P: You were ranked fourth in the preseason poll and fifth in the final poll.
KF: Overrated. They was too young. Nobody took that into consideration.
P: The Fab Five and the Thad Five both made it to the national championship game.
KF: No one ever thought this group could be that kinda good though.
P: Actually it's pretty much all I heard about last summer.
KF: From Forde?
P: One of my co-workers brought in this real elaborate spread sheet that compared the '92 Michigan recruiting class, the '06 Ohio State recruiting class and this UK recruiting class. It included high school stats and recruiting rankings from 15 different sources and all this other stuff. He tinkered with three different formulas and in each one Kentucky's class came out with the highest score.
KF: They won the SEC title.
P: Same guy bet me $20 they'd win the national championship. He now claims he never made the bet and says his proof is because "I would never make that bet."
KF: We got Knight, we got Gilchrist comin', we got this guy from Europe who picked Cal and the Cats over Phil Jackson and the Bulls.
P: That's not poss--
KF: We makin' a run at the big prize again in 2011 and 2012. You can go ahead and mark that down.
P: Everyone who plays the game is making a run at the big prize.
KF: Cal dudn't rebuild, he re-LOADS.
P: Have you actually watched any of these kids play basketball?
KF: *Does John Wall Dance*
KF: You seen this?

Wonderful.
Just wonderful. I’d go as far to say it borders on masterful.
I find it interesting how often UK fans seem to simply say the things Matt Jones writes
KSR has WAY more influence than it should
Almost as much influence as Card Chronicle

Hilarious and awesome
If you think things are bad now, wait until they get Teague. And if each and every one of those 2011 guys don’t sign in November…..look out.
what's the lastest on teague?
i keep hearing conflicting reports. UK fans seem to think they have him locked up.
UK fans think they have Lebron locked up.
He’s gonna bypass contract offers from New York, New Jersey, and Cleveland and sign a more lucrative deal with the Cayuts and Cal.
As for Teague, I still don’t see where all the “lock for UK” talk is coming from. The only thing I’ve heard that suggests this is Evan Daniels (UK fan for what it’s worth) and Jerry Meyer (good recruiting guy, but huge Cal homer) have heard whispers that UK is the leader. That’s it. Nothing from Teague or anyone close to him, just reporting “whispers” and neither of them, despite their affiliations, have said Teague is a lock for UK. It’s just fan chatter and the logical thinking that a one and done PG would favor Cal.
UofL has Teague’s high school coach on staff, his AAU teammate (who is a top 10 player) committed, an elite SG committed who Teague hinted he would like to play with, our coach coached his dad, when extension was announced for RP, Teague suddenly was ready to announce (and our backup plan, Hinds, said we quit recruiting him b/c we already had a few guards in that class), and let’s not forget the fact he has been to UofL for games and unofficials like 50 times. He has never seen a UK game and cancelled on them a few times.
Not sure how any of this favors UK at all, other than loudmouth UK cockiness claiming it does. I will say this, though. Here is what is not in our favor. Cal takes top tier HS PGs and gives them the green light to do whatever they want and he promotes the hell out of them. Pitino took a top tier HS PG (Siva) and basically benched him for a player who was not exactly better than he was. Maybe Teague sees this and says i don’t want to ride the bench and sit behind a guy I think I can outplay. That right there could haunt Rick for a while.
I was in class this evening
And instead of paying attention to the riveting group presentations, I looked over the shoulder of someone reading a Live Blog on KSR with Evan Daniels, who commented that he estimated Teague to currently be 60-40 Louisville. Take that for what it’s worth.

Kentucky IS back...
And by saying they’re back, I mean the fans coming out of the woodwork to be extremely “in your face” annoying, unrealistic, and irrational. It’s amazing how that fact of me not reading any Courier article comments occurred around the same time that their fans “came back”.
I fear the day when those kind of UK fans (not the other 5-10%) get on here to try to muddy up the comments.
Freakin' hilarious
at my cubicle here and was actually laughing at my desk. No one to share it with here because you have to understand the context. Man, I grew up with these yahoos in Winchester and I can just hear this dude saying it and in fact experience this twice a year when we come back home to visit. I think if I shared this with anybody from outside the Commonwealth they would think this would be a fictional story, but I know this could (or is) a word for word account of the conversation.
Awesome Mike, just awesome.

So great. Especially considering the first IMs I got this morning were both from Uk fan friends and both were links about Knight. Sigh.
Easily your finest work, sir!
The best part about this post
is that it is so f***ing true! None of the KF responses were exaggerated, they are all valid things that many, many UK fans say. Usually to make a fan look stupid or fanatic to a fault you have to make stuff up, but with cayut fans you only have to tell the truth…

Funny stuff
Hey as UK fan I can laugh at this too. But let’s face it (even if you choose not to Cards fans) there is a percentage of fans of any team that act like this. Having family members that are Cards fans I have seen my share of similar things during the latter of Tubby’s years and the Billy Gillispie error. My hats off to you very funny stuff. I just hope the small percentage of fans that act like this don’t come over here from KSR and Sea of Blue to prove your point…but I suspect they will in 3, 2, 1 -
I would imagine though
that the percentage of fans that this applies to is bigger in UK’s fan base than most fan bases. At least that’s been my experience.

This is a fan blog, not some kind of PC text book. There’s a reason this kind of entry is happening now and it’s not something that Mike is just making up out of thin air. Be sure and include a lot of things in bold, emphasize how you are clearly jealous and envious of everything that UK has become, and tell the KSR faithful that there is a lot more to come during the day as you mercilessly stalk those associated with the basketball program like a jilted high school lover.

UK fans are too dumb to realize they are soul selling hypocrites
13 months ago, all players who had tattoos and headbands were notorious thugs that deserved to be jailed, and Calipari was a cheating slimeball who uses a ruthless pimp for Nike to get players eligible and committed (the latter part of the sentence is true). Now he is just a misunderstood creature who is nothing short of a saint and the clean soul college bball needs. Despite the fact he has brutally lied twice in the past three weeks. First, he declared Patterson for the draft for him, and when Patterson said he had not decided, Cal said he did and just changed his mind. Lie #1 (I still feel bad Patterson had to play for that douche). He then said Enes Kanter shouldn’t be affected by any allegations of him playing pro ball in Europe because it’s not allowed if you’re not 18. Um…Ricky Rubio has been pro since he was like 15, Cal. Lie #2 (or just pure stupidity). And then he says that he does not recruit one and dones. Despite the fact that all his players are one and dones and many have said that they liked him because he said he could get them to the NBA in a year. He talked of Bledsoe saying did anyone think him (and orton, for that matter), were one and dones? No. Because they weren’t. They will get destroyed in the NBA and you turned them into one and dones because you no longer had use for them. He said Cousins and Wall he expected back because no one thought Cousins was mature enough to go pro and Wall would need to adjust for a higher level of playing (despite the opinions of every draft analyst who had both as top 5 picks when they were both juniors in HS). Lie #3.
UK fans site jealousy as the reason for hatred. If it was just us, I’d agree. But it’s every big name team. Hell, people were actually pulling for “most hated team” Duke this year. Everyone knows Cal is cheating and worse, everyone knows the NCAA is allowing it because it boosts revenue. But whatever. The guy can get all the recruits in the world, he still can’t coach a straw into his mouth.
Even a reasonable Duke fan
might have been pulling for Butler. Who doesn’t like the a good David vs Goliath underdog story?
To be fair, Doug Gottlieb definitely told my mom he hates Louisville… So maybe that part about Pat Forde is true.

The CARDS FAN'S
jealousy never gets old. Way to pick a good “ole country boy” and make fun of him. Real original. Gotta find some way to swallow UK getting the numero uno’s for 2010 ad 2011. Sounds like there are a lot of insecure, closet KSR (cards) fans on this site… but what do I know… most cards fans will cheer against Kentucky before they cheer for their own team. Cards fans are a joke. BAAAAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAAA!!!

Congrats on your newest rentals for Cal to hype up and then ultimately choke with. If you think these kids actually give 2 shits about the University of Kentucky then you are delusional.
In the meantime we’ll continue to do it the proven way, by developing our current players and signing a monster 2011 class to mix in with our veterans so that we can make a real run at a title. Better than being a revolving door for kids with no heart and no true desire to do anything but get the hell out of Lexington as quickly as possible.
And the post that proves the rule...

NBA lottery pick Earl Clark = argument against development?
by UL is my hot hot sex on Apr 16, 2010 1:38 AM EDT up reply actions
Exactly
Just because Earl sucks in Phoenix doesn’t mean he wasn’t a really good college player who happened to go in the lottery because it was a shitty draft. It’s not his fault.
He doesn't suck in Pheonix.
He dominated the D-League for the three games he was there and everybody says he practices extremely well. But he’s stuck behind Stoudemeire. You think T-Will would be getting any play time if he played for the Cavs?
Card
You undoubtably don’t watch the NBA or the Suns. Earl Clark did not domininate the D league games. Steve Kerr watched him and said he done good. He brought him back and it was right back to can’t dribble, pass or shoot. He does NOT play behind Amare. He plays out in the floor. The second team at the Suns is really good right now and could use Clark. This is coming from a fan who hasn’t missed a Suns game since Steve Nash left Dallas!
Happy Days are here again The sky is all ways BLUE again Happy days are here again !
"He done good." Really?
His D-League stats: 20.7 PPG (16, 19, and 27) and 9.0 RPG (5, 10, 12), good for top 20 in both categories (in only 3 games, mind you). He was the second leading scorer on his team in all three games and the leading rebounder (on either team) in the second and third games. That may not be dominating, but it’s pretty damn close. Certainly better than “done good.” Also, Earl plays PF and SF, which means he does indeed play behind Amare Stoudemire and Grant Hill respectively.
by Cool Hand Cards on Apr 18, 2010 10:02 PM EDT up reply actions
Why don't you quote
a few of his stats for the Suns. And by the way “He done good” was a quote from Steve Kerr! He has never came into a game to replace Amare. Amare plays center for the Suns. He would like to be a PF but Frye likes to play outside to shoot 3’s. The Suns need Earl. He has yet to show up.
Happy Days are here again The sky is all ways BLUE again Happy days are here again !
Why would I quote his stats for the Suns?
That wasn’t the debate. The debate was his performance in the D-League. And just because Amare has to play under the basket more than the Suns actual C, Frye, doesn’t negate the fact that he is their PF. If Earl were to get significant playing time, it would be at the PF position, which is occupied by Amare Stoudemire. He probably has the athleticism to play some SF, but as stated before, that spot is occupied by Grant Hill. I’m not asserting that Earl is by any means a superstar because he has plenty of work to do, but for you to assert that he isn’t playing behind Stoudemire is just plain false, in order to put your “blue” slant on his situation.

What Try?
It was a comment about devoting time and obvious vitriol towards a given topic while simultaneously denouncing those traits.
What Mike wrote is not vitriol--THIS is vitriol
The only thing more irritating than a stupid troll is a smart one who tries to confuse people by writing in complete sentences and hoping that what he cobbles together can pass for a successful retort.
Sorry, buddy, not happening here.
You are saying that Mike is demonizing fanaticism in his post? Do I have that right? That means you’re saying that he’s going after Cats fans for being devoted fans. And that, unfortunately, is not what he’s doing—he’s demonizing them for being uninformed and insufferable, for spouting the same cliches over and over again, ad nauseam, for the last year, and when people offer logical rebuttals, they respond with additional idiotic statements. VITRIOL, Mr. Troll, is speech that involves bitterness and hate, and while you are obviously more educated than most of your Big Blue Brethren, you’re falling into the same trap that they do. When someone criticizes your precious Cats, you frame it as VITRIOL, as JEALOUSY, and then you think this is infallible. As convenient as it is to call someone a “Hater,” or say, “you’re just jealous,” most of the time that is a lazy and entirely inaccurate defense in any walk of life. Congratulations, you’re an English major making the same argument as the guy who pumps your gas and gets a hard-on every time a new thread pops up on Cayuts Pause.
And if you think that this is a conversation that Mike made up in his head, you’re giving him way too much credit—we love the inside of Mike’s head and the thoughts that he thinks, but go to any message board, sports bar or water cooler, and you are likely to find much of what he has written here to be prevailing sentiment to some degree. It’s funny that someone making fun of others for being crazy would make up a conversation showing how crazy they are—that’s what you’re saying. Except that this is NOT an entirely fictional conversation, broheim. This is what an alarmingly high percentage of your fan base stands by, and if anyone insults the home front, goddamn it if they don’t fall back on the infraction-laced Kool-Aid that Matt Jones serves to them. You haven’t WON anything. You think you’re back because you can win recruiting battles? Wrong. You’re back when you produce results in March and beat good teams during the regular season. Do that, and come back here and be smug. Until then, stop confusing the illusion that everyone talks about you because you’re back and because they’re supposedly jealous with the reality that everyone talks about you because you’re full of yourselves for no apparent f—-ing reason.
THAT is vitriol, my friend. You picked the wrong hour to bring that weak, esoteric sauce. Now that you’ve been power-pwned, I suggest you go back to reading Ulysses and keep telling yourself that we say these things because we’re jealous. Good day, smart troll.

Lost in Translation
My comment was not the incendiary screed the article most definitely is. Matter of fact… my comment was a response to the hypocrisy that I found ironically nestled into the undertones. The article is a hitpiece… not a critique… or do you consider any abitrary portrayal of fandom gone to insane lengths a pecadillo to be laid solely at the feet of UK fans? Don’t answer that. The fact that my comment about the article is met with a tome sized response speaks volumes to its veracity.
“Esoteric sauce”??? Perhaps the proof is in the pudding then… and subjective taste buds. You say it makes zero sense… but thats just what you discern.

No. Are some of ours just as dumb? Of course. Don’t make this more complicated than it is, and DON’T brush off my criticism by repeating the same thing that misses my point and the author’s point. It’s quite rude.

Ohh... I get you
No… I think that the article addresses the fanaticism of (KF) more so than mere stupidity… which Rutherford implies of the universal UK fan. The fact that (KF) embodies that stupidity is the mean spirited quality of this inflammatory piece that takes away any legitimacy therein.
For the record I have addressed your questions of my articulation. The fact that you insist that I “dont make no sense” is a dismissal by way of semantics. You haven’t said sh!t in your parlance.
Not trolling
A troll is someone who elicits comments by posting derogatory remarks aimed at others commenting. I haven’t done that. My comment related explicitly to the original article and I used the provided comment box to speak my mind. I used no perjoratives… but I did call this spade a spade. If you cannot tolerate dissident opinion here… then you may be a little too fanatic yourself.
For what its worth.
You aren't definitively wrong, but I think your opinion is misguided
You read this with blue-tinted glasses when we insult your team. Mean-spirited? Sorry that your feelings are hurt by an only slightly altered parody of what a larger-than-you-care-to-admit portion of what your fan base says. There’s nothing genuinely mean about this, it’s a PARODY that has a lot of truth to it. Mike has written plenty of critiques that have passed your almighty test. A parody can be a critique, can it not? If you’re criticizing something, what you say will be construed as inflammatory by SOMEONE, right? It’s not legitimate because it fans the flames? What about the Pitino “critiques” from the last ten months? Can I dismiss them because they may be parodies or attempt to bait? And didn’t you join this site at 9:06? That’s right. You come onto a rival blog, try and demonstrate it’s hypocrisy, then switch to the fact that it’s not legitimate criticism because it’s mean and it pigeonholes UK fans into one stupid vat.
Hey, maybe we’d be friends and agree on many things apart from a basketball rivalry, but how you’re taken aback when you take such an odd stance in away territory escapes me. Nobody is giving it a Pulitzer. A parody with a lot of truth to it can have more valid criticism than you think. The same would be true if you wrote a mock dialogue on Pitino last summer in a similar vain—-I doubt I’d tell you that it wasn’t a valid critique because you were having a little fun with it. Not sure why you think I’m ignoring your points.
by doctorofdunk on Apr 16, 2010 2:25 AM EDT up reply actions
Just saying
If you said that, as a result of his transgressions, PItino had let down his players, fans and boosters, of whom he expects maximum effort, discipline, the willingness to donate, etc. by embarrassing all of those people in front of the college hoops world….
…and then you turned around and made a Karen Sypher/Porcini joke, you’d still have a valid criticism.
What Mike is doing isn’t terribly different, he’s rounding up a lot of the paranoia and recycled lines from the dregs of the Big Blue Nation, those who confuse headlines with success and recruits with superiority, and creating an uber-hick who does the John Wall dance and says the same crap over and over. Exaggerated? A little insulting? Maybe. But that doesn’t mean what he’s saying can be utterly dismissed.
by doctorofdunk on Apr 16, 2010 2:40 AM EDT up reply actions
You're making assumptions.
I didn’t come to a rival blog. I am first and foremost a UK fan… but I am also more than ambivalent to the Cards. I still like and respect Pitino. It may be anathema to you but you cannot provide contradictory evidence that I am not who I say I am. I’m not dumb enough to disregard the fact that many a UL fan dislikes UK and vice versa… so I took the vitriol with a grain of salt… it wasn’t unexpected in other words. It was actually reading the comments underneath that pushed me to the point of calling attention to the hypocrisy.
Go ahead and berate UK fans and feel better about yourself if that is what it takes. Have your fun. If I can provide that ubiquitous villain for you to spend countless hours responding to… then I have played my part in fulfilling this microcosm you live in. If that is the case… You’re welcome to the role fulfillment.
This is generic parody. I can recognize (KF) as one of a myriad of ignorant fanatics residing in any given southern college fan demographic. Southern only because Rutherford chose to go that route… the easiest to degrade. So I cannot call it more than a cheap shot to the groin.
If you find issue with someone criticizing Pitino or calling attention to his affairs… lay it at their doorstep… I haven’t and I dont wish to muddy what you have deemed an inarticulate argument any more than I already have.
I say that you have dismissed my point because you have. You call it nonsense. I consider that an argument of semantics. I know what I meant… if you can’t understand it… try again… don’t just shove it aside and continue on.
Damn pedanticitis...
I could have encapsulated a large portion of the above by just saying two wrongs don’t make a right.
I don't berate you to feel better about myself
I berate you because I think what you’re saying is generally misguided, and for someone who joined this site merely hours ago, you are making this argument because this article steps on your toes. That’s fine, like you said, it’s a rivalry, there’s supposed to be some vitriol. I understand your point, believe me, but I do not agree with it. And now with the sanctimonious line on southern caricatures? I rarely respond to ANYONE who trolls on this forum, and did because you are annoyingly convinced in what you are saying when I feel that you’re clearly missing the point of the article and then throwing up your hands and saying it’s offensive when its context is explained.
Mike is not only going after many UK fans as misguided, he’s also pinning them as arrogant, and I think that in this regard your second paragraph speaks for itself, whether that was your intention or not. We aren’t jealous of anything that you guys are, and the schadenfreude is only so strong because fans like KF make it so easy. I am sure that you are much more rational yourself, and it would not be as easy to pen a similar dialogue about people like you in every fanbase— not because you aren’t an easy target, but because you are rational, you realize that UK is not the be all and end all around which the college hoops world revolves. And obviously I believe what you say about your allegiances, but it’s not like you saying you don’t hate UL and then writing a paragraph saying “go ahead and hate me, pathetic assholes” really shocks me or changes my opinion.
I mean no genuine disrespect, and we can argue about this til we’re blue in the face—it’s actually kind of fun, no?—but we must agree to disagree because an epic nerd fight is never as appealing the morning after to those who aren’t involved. You probably think I’m an idiot, still, but I respect the debate. Peace.

Sorry... but you started the debate... I get the last word
And although I have definitely spent enough time debating at a college basketball forum… I am relentless enough to make damn sure that your label of misguided is thoroughly dismantled.
I don’t want to go to unnecessary lengths to drive around what is an empasse… so please oblige me the curt statements?
As far as joining this site hours ago… yes… but there must be some malfunction at the site because I remember congratulating Cards fans after their beatdown of Syracuse the last game of Freedom Hall. I come here when things seem slow at UK sites… just to see how things are coming along… until I frequented UL sites I was unaware of how passionate the rivalry was… I live in southern KY.
Schadenfreude… is not a trait you should aspire to.
Sanctimony towards the southern caricature? Yeah… did you not pick up on that either?… besides that is very easy… try going after the Boston brahmin sometimes.
I’m not a troll! See comment @11:23 If you think that simply posting a negative comment at a “rival” form makes me a troll… I can see how we seem to disagree on other issues.
No… I no longer hold the opinion that you are an idiot. I do think that my point is valid… and will chalk up the fact that you disagree to the fact of bias.
I think you’re a little too defensive… but I cannot speak any better of myself sometimes. This hitpiece needed addressing from someone who didn’t exhibit the stereotype portrayed if for no other reason than to prove that this is just a fallacious parady. You can assume the worst of UK fans… or you can broaden your perspective a little and see a resonant fanaticism that is really uncalled for… exhibited as I first stated… Ironically in this missive that masquerades as its own doppelganger.
Sorry about the length… should you respond I will likewise unless I am banned from this blog… but probably not until tomorrow.
Cheers… yes this has detoured into the nerdiest of tangents.
Great work, blackwatch.
However, if your goal is (1) to dispel or undermine offensive stereotypes of UK fans as obsessive, perspective-lacking, uneducated morons; or (2) to use witty repartee to combat the use of stereotypical and prejudicial thinking on internet message boards and blog posts, your time will be much more judiciously spent visiting these sites first:
www.catspause.com
www.kentuckysportsreport.com
www.kentuckysportsradio.com
If you did frequent those sites, you would have no time left to wander over here nor would your considerable cognitive dissonance permit you the comfort to pretend that Mike’s post was anything other than a fairly accurate assessment of the current UK fandom status. I will make sure to visit those sites this weekend so that I may enjoy the pleasure of seeing you reprimand the rare UK fan who acts as depicted above, while you are openly welcomed by the remaining fans as a kindred spirit and intellect. I’ll probably pop some popcorn, too.
Haughty standards these Louisville Cardinals display
It is so odd… this affront… simply because I have the audacity to mark myself amongst those who don’t fit the typical UK fan mold suggested here and by the majority of UL fans posting. It’s as if this entire house of cards will fall from my original comment… pun intended.
Although I am a proponent of certain aspects of solipsism… the reliance on the subjective argument has met its apotheosis here in the land of high horses and I am not talking about the promazine laden equines at churchill downs.
If you are hell bent to blaspheme the entirety of a fanbase because of the vocal minority… it really isn’t my problem. You have the problem of being a little too zealous about a game…just as this ad hominem article complains of in (KF)… Ironic… ain’t it?
I am not looking for a welcome here. I have a few diehard UL fans as friends… but they aren’t nearly as pretentious. As it has been said here… to each his own. The pompous facade put up by UL fans is as hilarious as (KF)s myopia… more so… but keep laughing.
Look, we've made peace. Call us what you will...
As you said, to each his own. But pretentious? From the guy who used “missive masquerades as its own doppelganger”? Even you must think that is the pot calling the kettle black.

Faded references... awesome
Sophistry… mclame01… accuse me of that and save the time spent looking up old clips for your next dissertation… but you knew that because you’re the ever erudite Louisville Cardinal fan
I'm done
Yeah doc… I realize that i have condescended to this pretentious game of vernacular volleyball with you. I am somewhat ashamed of myself… and mclame had a good point… I fell into the trap of ostentatious posts in order to show you that I wouldn’t kowtow at your novella of a second post to me… riddled with extraneous descriptors.
I intended the pretention to mean judging someone based upon their sophistication… not based upon their vocabulary.
I have come to realize it doesn’t matter what my intentions were. I could just as easily spent this time arguing with a fence post. What is worse… I have come to view UL fans more disfavorably than before… and this isn’t fair to the majority of UL fans out there who don’t hold this inane sense of superiority. I’ve let the hobgoblins of little minds invade my own and the world seems a little colder now… and since I have to live in my own little subjective reality… I have really only harmed myself by taking part in this wash.
No offense Doc… you are a gifted writer… hope you are putting your talent to better use than this. For the record… I never sought to put anyone down… save for mclame01… because he showed little initiative…but sorry for that.
I don’t consider anyone here beneath me… you may say for good reason. If you all consider UK fans beneath you… that’s your problem forever more because I will not darken Card Chronicle’s doorstep again… even if you beat the teetotal shite out of Syracuse.
Good luck in all of your games next season except the one… cheers
maybe a little
although we’re all thinking something somewhat close to that. Just maybe not that harsh.

yeah, about that...
I was under the impression that coming onto a rival blog, whether you care about the rivalry or not, and saying “This is hypocritical,” is trolling, but that’s now he feels. Oh well, we made nerd peace and wasted all of your time, it’s done. Sorry for making you read that.

Pinnacle of the Elite 8
That quote from Petino gets tossed in my face ever since he said it at the end of last season.
- we lost to Mich State-more final fours in the past 10 years than anyone-who was playing to play in their home state
- we had two lottery picks, not five potential 1st rounders and 2 All Americans
- you lost to a team 4th in their conference and who hadn’t seen the final four since the 50s!
CRASH AND BURN.
Here is to hoping you can’t even manage a repeat trip to the Elite 8.
Hey
Just so everyone knows, I currently go to NKU, and I’m a die hard Louisville fan. I actually went to every home football game last season and most home basketball. We aren’t all dumb UK fans.
For the record
There was no intentional shot directed at NKU, it could have just as easily been Murray or EKU, etc. Just throwing in that random fact for relatively no reason seems to happen in these conversations.

But that post just further proves your point. Their board over there seems to be “We’re going to be loaded,” “We’re going to be awesome next year.” “Cal is our Savior.”

Number 1 recruits
Does anyone else find it funny that so much weight is put on the fact that UK has the #1 recruits for the next two years? Have either of these guys stepped foot on the floor of a college arena? They’re no. 1 now just like my flag football team didn’t have a losing record when we had not played a game yet.
What happened to the 8th grader that Billy Clyde offered a scholarship to?
I have lived in NKY my entire life except the 4 glorious years I spent at UofL. I have friends who did not attend UK and don’t have any family that did. Yet many of these people were “diehard” fans this season. I understand that you can root for a team even if you didn’t go to school there but to ride the UK bandwagon is just so unoriginal.

ABC was right!
It will be a cold day in Hell when you see a UofL shirt on ASoB.
Happy Days are here again The sky is all ways BLUE again Happy days are here again !
did you...
make this up?
Because I can see this being a TOTALLy plausible conversation.
i hate this thread...
because i have this conversation like everyday
I have had this conversation!!
With a UofL fan two years ago, When things seemed so rosie in Card land this is the kind of talk I encountered nearly every day….Funny how things change. But of course they had reason to think that UK would stay down…I mean, with a Drunk leading BIG BLUE, but fortunately Barnhardt sucked It up and pulled the Drunk out of the drivers seat.
Seems like Jurich may want to follow Mitch’s lead….Maybe he will get a coach that stays out of court this Summer….Just saying!!!
Clever!!!!
I do have to admit…This is funny, I know some CATS fans are unreasonable…But, I will let you in on a well kept secret…..UofL has just as many of the fore mentioned fans……If you are as reasonable as you lead us to believe you will agree…I still remember the winter of 2008…You remember dont you? “The Cards will win It all”…“Pitino can’t be beat with his coaching ability and the team he has this year, with experience”…I remember all those Unreasonable assumptions from the Card fans…And we are hearing the same from the same kind of UK fans…Every fan can’t be Logical and objective thinkers for any fan base…….Do you agree anyone?
Do you agree anyone?
uhm… no. Living here in Buckeye land, I’d suggest there are 2 REALLY, REALLY obnoxious fan bases. Ohio State football fans and Kentucky basketball fans. Which is more obnoxious? Depends on what season we’re currently indulging.
"There is no OFF position to the genius switch" - D. Letterman
Sure, most teams have irrational fans
But his comparison is faulty.
Oranges: Louisville fans confidently project during the 2nd week of March that the Cardinals have a really great shot to “win it all” after sweeping the Big East Reg Season & Tournament and then earning the overall #1 seed in the NCAA Tournament with 2 upperclassmen NBA lottery picks and a coach whose been to the Final Four several times and “won it all” before.
Apples: Crowning UK as National Champs in April after losing and signing multiple Top 10 recruits after an Elite Eight season with five 1st Round NBA draft picks with a coach who has never won the big game and whose Final Fours are no longer recognized by the NCAA.
I’ve seen several Twitter posts and comments by UK fans saying to the effect “_, ______ and ______ signed with UK? Cancel the season and hand UK the trophy!” I don’t think I’ve ever seen/heard any UofL fan say “Charlie Strong is UofL’s FB coach? Cancel the BCS and hand UL the trophy!” or “#1 Overall Seed + Pitino + TWill? Cancel March Madness & start editing Louisville’s ‘One Shining Moment’ highlights!”
We all hope our teams can compete at the highest level and win the big games. It’s not the irrational thought process behind projecting your team to be the best. It’s the volume and pretentious nature of this irrational opinion that irks nearly everyone who is not a UK fan.

I Remember!!!
I remember all that was predicted and all the Smack that was coming from the UofL fans when Pitino was Hired…The same Smack that UT football fans flung when the now USC coach came to town.
I can say that some UK fans are overly exited and at times blind to the fact that great players(only) can’t win a TITLE….But this piece by Mike Rutherford is exactly the kind of thing that I REMEMBER coming from BirdLand…FACT!!
I understand how UofL fans can forget this kind of excitement…2005 was a great year, 2008 was just has strong and reason to get exited and talk smack…When a Coach keeps bringing in the top talent(No Matter how long they stay) you will be exited…..UK fans at times do get pumped up and lose focus on what can take place in March, One bad game your done…Ole Roy at Kansas, Rick Pitino at UK and UofL had the “TEAM” and couldn’t get the Title…Jim B at Syracuse has coached for 37 years total and only has 1.
My fellow CATS fans do lose focus with reality, But to Insinuate that UK fans are sooo much worse than any other fan base is really Blind Logic on your part…..Don’t get out much do you?…..I have lived, Coached and do have Businesses in 7 states and to hear the fan bases from all those places, they are the best and no body else compares, No matter the Sport all fan bases have “Crazies”…..BTW: I still hear UofL fans Comparing One great Football season to the numerous UK Bowl games….So past success for 1 or two years trumps numerous good to very good years? If you don’t agree with someone you don’t have to be disagreeably, But I see much more of that from UofL and UT fans than any other fan-base…..My Observation.
BTW: I’m hearing the chatter when I am in Ohio about how “we Have a top 3 class coming in and Motta will win one for sure now”…Heard that Monday night…Why? Because Buckeye fans have reason to be exited….I have no problem with people speaking well of the future, Heck, why get exited If the Haters say your Obnoxious or “Toothless”? Because you could careless about what people think about your thoughts of the Future….If I said, UK won the Championship last year because the NCAA set Duke up to win It would be wrong…But for anyone to say I’m wrong for having the excitement I have for Big Blue’s future is also wrong….any thoughts guys?
We Reload!!!
BTW: this is a Phrase that was actually used throughout the 90’s at UNC, Duke and UK under(You Know Who)….If Pitino was bringing in top 5 recruiting classes I would have no problem with UofL fans using this phrase….But he isn’t, so, being a fan of UK I will do the honors….“We don’t rebuild, We Reload”.
Teague a CAT!!!
Lets hear It boys….CAL cheats and Teague is a criminal…Right?
