Around SBN: Jeremy Lin And How The Pac-12 Missed Him

Jerry Smith is out for the Big East Tournament

According to Courtside with Rick Pitino.

The following is from their Facebook page:

Courtside with Rick Pitino Jerry Smith out for the tourney...will be ready for NCAA Tourney.

They also posted this:

Courtside with Rick Pitino We might see Edgar and Siva play together.

Do you think that IF they do go with Edgar and Siva playing together it would work? I know that Pitino stated previously Sosa would not be able to play the 2 guard.

So, we're saying...

…Preston will get more playing time and Jerry will get more towel swinging time? This may be the least upset I could possibly be about an injury to a starter right before the BET

This is disappointing

I was worried he might be out, and now I’m worried he’s going to miss the NCAAs(or other postseason tournament). Maybe he’ll try to gut through them anyway.

The real question

Can Jerry Make it FOUR towels? I dunno if it will work with a bum thumb… but still

ESPN announced Kyle Kuric is Nineteen-minute player of the year

Nineteen-minute player of the year: Kyle Kuric (7), Louisville. Low-profile bench jockey blew up for 22 spectacular points in 19 minutes Saturday, shockingly carrying the Cardinals to a sweep of Syracuse, into the NCAA tournament, and out of Freedom Hall in Hollywood style.

I'm pretty sure

Edgar has always played like a 2 guard in my opinion. So Siva handles the ball and Sosa waits for a pass and makes a move and shoots. How is this different from what he usually does?

I don't know...

…Edgar had ten assists on Saturday. I felt like he was doing a good job of finding the open man.

Of course, Peyton also does a good job of distributing the rock… that is, when he can hold onto the rock for long enough to get a pass off.

I've never understood Rick's reluctance to play Siva and Edgar together.

Like with may other things, I preface this by saying that Rick’s reasons are probably better than mine. That said, Edgar loves to shoot, and Siva is quicker and better at breaking defenses down off the dribble. I remember Rick raising some concerns about Edgar’s ability to defend 2-guards, but we play a zone almost all of the time, and our guards wind up randomly matched up with whomever is in their position on the perimeter. So I don’t get it. I hope we get a chance to see how it works.

D-Fence

I would say to both you and kentuckybred that the problem playing Edgar and Peyton at the same time is not offense. It is defense. If the situation calls for offense to be premier in the thought process the two of them could be very, very good together. If however we are in a situation where defending the opposing guards is key this pairing is a problem.

by cbcard on Mar 9, 2010 6:48 PM EST up reply actions

it's also possible that Rick is just playing poker here

and trying to make it hard for our first-round BET opponent to game-plan

by BostonCardFan on Mar 9, 2010 7:02 PM EST reply actions

Why on earth

…would Rick throw something so different at our team such as playing Siva and Sosa together. This group has such a hard time grasping new concepts as it is. This team has worked all year for everyone to know their roles. Switching things around so drastically like playing to point guards would totally our rotation out of whack.

Jerry’s injury simply means that Preston is going to get a ton more minutes (25+). If he gets worn out, its gotta be Kuric who see minutes @ the 2. He is a natural shooting guard but for some reason Rick has turned him into a small forward (probably cause he’s such a great rebounder).

A lineup of
1-Sosa, Siva
2-Preston, Kuric
3-Delk, Marra
4-Swop, Buckles
5-Samardo, TJ

will do just fine.

by drhustle on Mar 9, 2010 7:42 PM EST reply actions

Marra

Marra plays the 2 and the 3, so theoretically it would be:

1- Sosa/Siva
2- PK/Marra
3 – Delk/Kuric
4 – TJ/Swop/Buckles
5 – SS/TJ

I mean, if he wants to put the best 5 guys on the floor then I can see Sosa/Siva together.

by CardsFan922 on Mar 9, 2010 8:06 PM EST reply actions

Sosa and Siva

I think these two players with PK will really help us have a good big east tourney, and just incase jerry can’t play at 100% we can have this rotation down pact. These 3 playes can win us each a game wit there energy and excitement so alot of siva and sos together will b perfect but I also hope it lets Special K n delks 2 continue progressing.

We need samuels 2 b concistent as well as jennings on defense i really think this team can make a sweet sixteen and beyond run!!!!

Lets contine riding the FREEDOM HALL miracle cards!!!

Just as well

We’ll get to see if Kuric was a one-hit wonder or if he can be the real deal.

Here’s hoping Kyle has The Kure for the Cards’ long-shot goal of winning another piece of the Big East Championship.

Wild prediction

he plays 5 minutes vs Cincinnati. With Pitino’s sub patterns, would you be surprised?

Absolutely not.

Hey guys, I’m just wondering who will play PG for us next year?

I know Siva can but who else?
