I know you all already agree with me, but I'm going to write about this regardless. As Pitino and time have shown us, 11 Big East Wins should secure a Tournament bid for teams in this insane conference. Louisville should and would have 12 wins right now if it weren't for some real screw-ups on the refs' part.
Sitting at 10 wins, here are the Cards' BE losses:
Villanova 92-84
Pittsburg 82-77 OT -- Bad Call against UofL while they're winning causes a tie, OT, then a loss.
Seton Hall 80-77 -- Bad Call against UofL while they're down, no chance to tie the game, then a loss.
West Virginia 77-74 -- 2 or 3 Bad Calls and a procedural error against UofL while they're winning, then a loss.
St. Johns 74-55
Georgetown 70-60
Marquette 69-48
I'd say Louisville wins the Pitt and WV game if they weren't so unlucky. Seton Hall is debatable, but I give them the benefit because they were winning most of the game and when the bad call happened. The rest of the losses are legitimate, Louisville just got outplayed in those games. Most of Louisville's out-of-conference losses can be explained by injuries, but since injuries are a general part of the game (an a reason I'm more willing to accept than bad reffing) I won't try to explain those away.
Louisville SHOULD be 12-5 in BE Play and Pitt SHOULD be 11-6, making the Cards at least in competition with Marquette for 4th place coming into the last game of the regular season (and Pitt basically locked at 5th). Bottom line and perhaps the best thing about all of this: LOUISVILLE HAS A GREAT TEAM! Bad calls and injuries have lead the Cards to being dramatically UNDERRATED!
They've got a chance tonight against Syracuse, a chance at winning the BE Tournament, and a chance at making a Tournament Run. Don't doubt them.
Happy Freedom Hall Finale/ Senior Day! Go Cards! Beat Syracuse!
