Thoughts from a Strong Spring Practice (with photos)
Figured I'd give you guys a few of my opinions on Coach's spring practice that I attended yesterday.
My biggest impression: INTENSITY. Both coaches and players seemed like they were treating this practice like it was late December. Looked like a bunch of Rudy's out there (except for size) and I didn't see Vince Vaughn bitching about their effort. Guys were yelling at each other, talking shit, and generally seemed to be giving it their all. Receivers were rising over cornerbacks and snagging well thrown balls from the QBs, then spiking it at the feet of the DB. The offensive and defensive lines got in a 20 man scuffle that actually included Froman getting in there. I may be wrong, but I highly doubt there were many fights in last year's practices, and not because they were afraid of the coach. These guys WANT IT. I am pumped
COACH STRONG
THE SCUFFLE (it went on for quite a while but I lowered the camera and just watched after a bit)

Pretty much like hockey refs. No diving in to stop
And no yelling afterwards

Not sure I like that.
Intensity is one thing, but I’d like to think that our players have some sense of team unity.

I'm sure they do but that doesnt stop heat of the moment stuff like that sometimes.

We never had them back in high school.
But maybe that’s why we sucked. Come to think of it, that could explain a lot…

I'm guessing this was the product of someone being too rough without the pads
but honestly I don’t see fighting as a bad thing at all… unless the two players really hold the grudge forever, I just see it as natural and a product of competition
How did the huddles look? Enough guys in there?

Most of the yelling I saw was when
Players kept repeating the same mistakes after coaches tried to correct them

Brian Bennett posted some thoughts on ESPN yesterday.
I am encouraged. We have nowhere to go but up.

I love that Bennett says Coach isn’t afraid to get in a player’s face. Petrino did that and I think that is part of what was missing in the last few seasons. I have no problems with the a coach being a mentor/friend off of the field, but he needs to check that on the field.
