The "Whatever There's Still Good Games On" Open Thread
Whatever. Good games still, and I know most of you will be watching.

So, uh, UNI-Kansas
Divided loyalties. Love to see the upset, don’t love seeing the team that could beat UK knocked out in the 2nd round.
I hear you
Would love to see the upset, would not love to see N. Iowa win. They seem like a bunch of hicks. One of the more awkward basketball teams I have seen.

Washington..
…now kicking the ever loving stuff out of UNM.
What a crazy tourney. I guess was to be expected considering the parity / down year nature of college basketball and all the guys playing in the pros right now.
What on earth..
…does Kansas have to do to get a foul called? They are manhandling No. Iowa, at least from what I’ve seen.
I don't think Kansas is only team that can beat UK
Maybe one of the few that would be favored (Syracuse anyone?) but def not the only one that could beat them. Hell if Cornell plays like they did fri. they’ll beat UK

I give Wake a
30% chance of beating UK
by REALISTICCARDSFAN on Mar 20, 2010 7:36 PM EDT reply actions
Seriously
Pretty much 90% of brackets in CardChron have Kansas, only because no one wanted to pick UK.
At Least
we’ll be able to say KU and Nova only made it one round further than UofL.

Wow, tough call....
….talk about a late whistle. I thought the foul was over the back on Henry on the rebound.
What a game going on here
this is why you have to love March Madness

What a ballsy three by Farokh-Menesh
However the hell you say his name. Two HUGE 3’s in two days

Well I had Cuse winning it all
But I had Nova in Final 4… so yeah

The only better game we could see today
is UK losing to Wake.

Ken Pomeroy Tweets:
“In terms of single game improbability, this exceeds UConn/Mason. 06 UConn was not as dominant as Kansas, and 06 GMU a bit better than UNI”
So much for the Bracket of Death
Kansas loses, Georgetown loses…

Damn, at least Louisville took the top seed to the Elite Eight
Kansas just CHOKED.

Big 12 is
just as overrated as Big East
by REALISTICCARDSFAN on Mar 20, 2010 7:57 PM EDT reply actions
Holy Crap
Let this sink in for a second: Depaul 60, Northern Iowa 52.
Also, Kansas shot terrible from 3, UNI shot well. Not rocket science.
Obsessed...
i see we’re all still obsessed with what UK is doing…..gezzzz
East Tenn St
had to be the weakest team in the tournament.
by REALISTICCARDSFAN on Mar 20, 2010 8:35 PM EDT reply actions
Wake..
…first team I’ve seen UK play all season that has almost as much talent. This is not going to be an easy game.
Hindsight....
9060…check the battery in that crystal ball.
If Wake gets up by 5 again
I’m treating myself to beer.
by REALISTICCARDSFAN on Mar 20, 2010 8:41 PM EDT reply actions
If UK makes threes.....
…tough to stop. Although so far Wake has done a good job keeping the ball away from inside and keeping UK from fast breaking. Helps shooting 50%.
Also UK is really good.
Hard to admit or believe
but it’s true.
by REALISTICCARDSFAN on Mar 20, 2010 8:48 PM EDT up reply actions
UK all gets Jordan treatment....
…not shocking at all that Wake’s main players all have a bunch of fouls on them in the first 10 minutes of the game.
Apparently not.
He won 0 games last year.
by cardsinindy2010 on Mar 20, 2010 9:07 PM EDT up reply actions
Why do they keep....
…changing to that under-the-basket camera angle? Very annoying.
Also Wake can’t buy a bucket.
Delusional if he thinks he has any chance of making it in the League right now.

I think he just said he hasn't thought much about it yet
and then CJ did the normal media whore thing and blew that statement out of proportion. He could probably go play for the Jamaican National Team again. If he’s thinking NBA, maybe he should give it a try and get rejected so he can get some perspective.

Kentucky isn't going to lose again.
They’re the best team left, and by a lot. It sucks, but that is just the way it goes. It does make last year sting a little more. But I honestly feel no pain from last night — not sure why, but I guess it was just apparent that it was a rebuilding year for us, and it could have been a lot worse.

Why does Cousins get so much credit just for not blowing up?
Poor kid, it’s a tough game, and he hasn’t thrown any elbows yet, such a good boy
Agreed. Massively annoying.
I usually like Bilas a lot, but why is he buying into that crap too?

Someone gives the announcers
talking points to read in the booth, so when they can’t think of anything to say they just read one.

I said it on Thursday
If you don’t like the idea of John Wall standing on the podium on April 6, you didn’t want Northern Iowa to win. It’s a nice story, but big picture, folks, it’s not a good development. I know there’s still a lot left to be played, but we needed Kansas to not lose that.
Agreed. I think Kansas was the only team likely to beat UK.
And I think UK is more talented than Kansas. But nobody else is close to UK in talent level. Calipari just hit the gold rush this year. Wall and Cousins are likely to be top 5 picks this year, Patterson will probably be lottery, and Bledsoe could be first round. That is ridiculous. And Orton is probably a first-rounder down the road. Good grief.

I might add that Kansas has now let us down two years in a row.
Would have much rather played them than MSU last year. Damnit. Bill Self, you owe us.

I blame Texas
I doubt they’d have been down 27 right now.
by doctorofdunk on Mar 20, 2010 9:52 PM EDT up reply actions
I can only hope that this is UK's Arizona - they look unbeatable tonight.
And we all know what can happen next. But I still have a hard time seeing them losing. Too much talent. There may have been teams with 4 first-round picks before, but how many had 3 lottery picks, including the #1 and 2 of the top 5 overall (assuming that happens)? It’s just ridiculous.

Kentucky as National Champ
pisses me off for more reasons than them just being UK. I’m sure it’s a shared sentiment around the entire college basketball community.
1. Calipari probably got away with something (that we may or may not find out about).
2. It’s on the back of Freshmen. Totally blows away the entire concept of work ethic and being a loyal 4 year student. “Hey kids, maybe if you grow up and God’s given you a lot of talent, you can play in the NBA.” Rather than “Hey kids, if you work really hard and practice a lot, maybe one day you can play in the NBA.”
The best part about this is
1. The Wins could be vacated soon.
2. Kentucky is unlikely to get so lucky again (if you call Calipari paying students lucky) with their drafting without Calipari getting caught. So, next year they’ll be left with??? Maybe a few good recruits who probably won’t compare with this year’s team.
by REALISTICCARDSFAN on Mar 20, 2010 10:04 PM EDT reply actions
Pay...
are you for real being “realistic” saying Cal pays wall and cousins?? you actually believe that? You really think the whole time he’s at UK that every win will at some point be vacated?? Wow…i just wish we could quit commenting and talking about UK..no wonder we have that lil brother tag….
If you think UK fans weren't just as concerned with us not winning last year, you're kidding yourself.
Check out the posts on a C-J Louisville article some time. Easily more than half from Louisville-obsessed UK fans.
by cardsinindy2010 on Mar 21, 2010 9:11 AM EDT up reply actions
UK fans clamoring for the technical foul on Wake for a violent swing on Cousins is comical.
The best thing that ever happened to Calipari is the one-year rule. Calipari didn’t do $hit before that. And if they ever change the rule, he won’t do $hit again. But he did get pretty damn lucky this year, best collection of frosh talent in some time… That said, they are still quite a few games left where they can lose.

They are playing damn well....
…the only team I can see giving them trouble is Syracuse because of the zone and the big guys inside. But that wouldn’t be until the championship game.
They look unbeatable tonight.
by CardsFan922 on Mar 20, 2010 10:15 PM EDT up reply actions
Hadn't thought about that with Syracuse, but you're right, they might be able to do it with the zone.
I hope Cuse makes it that far. It would be sweet to see a team that we beat twice end UK’s run.
by cardsinindy2010 on Mar 20, 2010 10:17 PM EDT up reply actions
Surely Texas would've made a game of it
Wake just completely stopped
by doctorofdunk on Mar 20, 2010 10:43 PM EDT up reply actions
No way
They were just as bad. Kentucky would have rolled them tonight. Texas got smoked by every good team they played since January
With regards to Samardo "testing" the NBA...
Aren’t the salaries for rookies or the age rule soon to change for the NBA? I seem to remember somebody saying that the number of entries after this season is going to be higher because of better benefits to player this year compared to next.
Obviously Samardo isn’t ready to contribute in the NBA. But if the math makes sense, it might be better for him to sit bench in the D-League for a few seasons. I doubt that this is true, but it might be a reason he’s “testing the waters”.
I surely think his best future lies in finishing his career (complete with degree) at UofL working on his pro skill set and then playing in the NBA or Europe if he isn’t going to make the NBA.
by Remote Cardinal on Mar 20, 2010 10:50 PM EDT reply actions
Salaries no because they have a slot system
The age rule maybe if they lockout next year. Samardo will probably get an evaluation. I doubt he’ll enter the draft. No draft sites have him going first round I believe.
Foolish move
I hope SS listens to the realistic talkers around him. He’s not even close to ready for any kind of role in the pros. He’s way too soft and his fundamentals are – let’s face it – basically ridiculous. He gets by on raw talent and size at this level, but even in the D-league at the next level, they’ll chew him up and spit him out. Every night. He absolutely needs another year (or 2) at this level before he even thinks about the next.
