Let's Keep The Good Times Going: First Night of NCAAs Have A Big Day to Live Up To

Wow, what an opening day to the tournament.  Close games, multiple OTs, the local Murray State Racers shocking the world.  My 6-0 start turned into a 6-2 overall first session, and no official word on how HotHot and Mike are doing in Vegas.

Here's hoping tonight's games can be at least half as good as the day games.

At work we tried hooking up a 42" plasma to watch games on.

But we had nowhere to put it, so we went with a 22" monitor instead. It’s still awesome.

Guys, guys, I just had a great idea.....

…for a way we could win tomorrow – let’s hit a bunch of threes! And then hope the other team mostly shoots inside the arc, but when they also shoot threes, they miss!

Brilliant game plan for Ohio – just make more than 50% of your 3s.

Marquette and Washington..

by CardsFan922 on Mar 18, 2010 8:18 PM EDT reply actions

GTown

needs to give up the paint defense and shut down the 3’s. Stop trading 2 for 3 every trip and they might eek this out. I’m not optimistic, though. Ohio has their number.

by CardsFanTX on Mar 18, 2010 8:19 PM EDT reply actions

GTown

also turned it over 8 times (to Ohio’s 3). Resulting in several more shot attempts by Ohio. So the recipe for GTown = stop giving up uncontested 3’s and stop turning the ball over. Can they do it?

I'm afraid we're going to look like Gtown tomorrow night

Too much chasing in the zone and watching the other team knock down wide open shots.

by centrecard on Mar 18, 2010 9:02 PM EDT reply actions

Yeah, I hope the team is watching this game. It looks way too much like the Cards.

On a brighter note, I think we handle losses better than the G-Town fans, they’re in meltdown mode over at Casual Hoya.

by Dais on Mar 18, 2010 9:05 PM EDT up reply actions

we have Freedom Hall Finale in our back pockets

they were expecting a lot more from their Hoyas. This is a good spot to be for the Cards methinks. The more I drink think about it, the better I feel about tomorrow’s game vs. Cal. We can do this.

by UL is my hot hot sex on Mar 18, 2010 9:08 PM EDT up reply actions

Possible

but RP is usually solid with a game plan when he has this long to scout the opponent. I think he knows it’ll be their outside shooting vs. ours to some extent + getting it inside a lot to SamSam. Oh, and I still think our best strategy in the 1st Half is to run them into the ground so they have no legs late.

by CardsFanTX on Mar 18, 2010 9:06 PM EDT up reply actions

Our biggest advantage by far

is bench depth. They have basically none now with the suspension and injuries. It’ll be 8-9 vs. 5.

by CardsFan922 on Mar 18, 2010 9:15 PM EDT reply actions

Ohio

is relentless with the 3’s. They came to play, but that should not have mattered if GTown had done the same. GTown does this inexplicably every few years in the Dance.

by CardsFanTX on Mar 18, 2010 9:17 PM EDT reply actions

They're one of the most erratic teams I've ever seen.

Case in point: they win a lot early, blow out Duke, finish worse in the Big East than us, then get a run in the tournament and wind up with a 3 seed, and now losing in the first round.

It would be rough to be a Georgetown fan.

Gotta

make your FT’s in the Dance. Tsk Tsk.

Reminds me

of Memphis when they had the NC in hand and FT’s killed ’em.

by CardsFanTX on Mar 19, 2010 12:27 AM EDT up reply actions

Also

gotta get DRB in the Dance. Jesus, TX doesn’t want to win.

We all knew

there was more equality among the teams in the field this year, but this opening round has been great. There are a lot of quality teams in the tournament, but let’s be honest; putting UConn, UNC, and 29 more at large teams would be a huge mistake. Sadly, somehow I think the NCAA will look at the upsets and say, “Obviously this means that we need more teams!” Anything to justify the extra dollars.

I'd trade that

for a playoff system in football. Like that’ll ever happen.

I’m so sick of these coke zero commercials.

Wow...

WF….

Can you say FREE THROWS?!?!?!

by Remote Cardinal on Mar 19, 2010 12:30 AM EDT reply actions

Montana

Qvale is my favorite player now not wearing a Cards jersey. 26 pts and 12 boards

by CardsFanTX on Mar 19, 2010 12:31 AM EDT reply actions

Wow.

I really wanted Texas to win because they are a better match for UK, but what a freaking tournament.

And nice choke job UT.

by 83fan on Mar 19, 2010 12:31 AM EDT reply actions

I never bought that

They tanked since January. If they won, UK would have beaten them by 30

by cardscott5 on Mar 19, 2010 12:32 AM EDT up reply actions

Neither is likely to win.

But UConn and UNC both stayed with UK based purely on talent. Texas is better than both of them.

by 83fan on Mar 19, 2010 12:35 AM EDT up reply actions

That was before those two teams started sucking though.

Maybe in December

Baylor is kinda like UK and they dusted Texas twice in the last week.

by cardscott5 on Mar 19, 2010 12:36 AM EDT up reply actions

Yes, but Miss St. is no Baylor or Texas.

They won’t win 6 straight if they have to face quality opponents each game. Texas is the better match up.

I thought Wake

making the tournament was a joke. I’m not very good at this stuff.

by CardsFanTX on Mar 19, 2010 12:33 AM EDT reply actions

haha

me neither, obviously

by rickmbari on Mar 19, 2010 12:33 AM EDT up reply actions

Probably was, but it got trumped by Texas’s end of season freefall.

will demolish Wake. 20-point win. Damnit.

by CardsFanTX on Mar 19, 2010 12:35 AM EDT reply actions

QVALE!

Monster board. He’s keeping MT in this game singlehandedly

by CardsFanTX on Mar 19, 2010 12:36 AM EDT reply actions

Serious Question...

How come Louisville doesn’t have a 7ft-er that can shoot the 3?

I mean if you are a guy like that at a school like Montana, who’s to stop you from transferring after someone knows you are good?

by Remote Cardinal on Mar 19, 2010 12:37 AM EDT reply actions

Might not want to. Also what else does he bring to the game? He might be able to get away with having weaknesses in other places because of his strengths against lesser competition. Also in the tournament it’s hard to gameplan against a big guy that can shoot like that. With Montana Johnson is their stud. New Mexico probably focused on stopping him.

Dumbest play of the day

Redding not taking the easy dunk or layup to put Nova up 5 late in that game. W.T.F.

by CardsFanTX on Mar 19, 2010 12:46 AM EDT reply actions

How do you not go for three there!

You need the 3! Plus it’s on transition so D isn’t set up.

With Apologies To Randy Edsall, The Big East Remains Mostly Harmless

FILE -- This is an Oct. 18, 2008 file photo showing Connecticut corner back Jasper Howard (6) trying to get the crowd into the game during the fourth quarter of an NCAA college football game against Rutgers, in Piscataway, N.J. Jasper Howard had his little sisters' names tatooed on his chest. His friends say it was a constant reminder of why he was at U Conn _ to provide his family with a better life than the one he had in Miami's Little Haiti. (AP Photo/Mel Evans, File) link
